Been on training for my new job today and this topic came up, they have lots of staff in the community in some dodgy places and had spent 10's of thousands on different systems over the years which all were scrapped and local teams now have different systems that work for them i.e. What's App groups, calling the office and saying going to place A expect to be 30 mins and will call in then. All which have much better take up with staff and costs next to nothing. Some use Teams and communicate which each other on that.

Certain Sharp MFD's can do this.

I personally wouldn't have an issue with it, more secure than a payslip been put through Royal Mail or left on a desk/staff room for anyone to get their mits on. If someone really want's to know how much I am earning they only have to look at the payscales!

Had no real interest for anything else other than computers when I was at school, managed to get on work experience with local authority at the time. When I left school there was no IT apprenticeships going in the area so went on a business admin at a local haulage company, didn't get anything out of it so company employed me so spent 9 months between there and my local shop working. Managed to get an interview within a year of leaving school into IT in the NHS where I spent 8 years, left and worked for a private sector company doing IT support mainly in public sector for 7 years and next week I start back in the NHS. Never once been to college, did a work based NVQ when I was in the NHS and a few small IT qualifications but nothing to shout about but have 15 years experience and been very active in public sector in my local area so have a fairly good reputation behind me. Tried many times to get into other public sector areas but never succeeded and out of the blue picked this new role up just before Christmas. Never really know anything else, quite happy been a hands on dirty tech simple as.

For the fire to develop to the level it did I suspect something else has to be involved. If this was an electrical fire during the night when the building was unoccupied and no one to raise the alarm as quick as say during the day time maybe but a daytime fire plenty of people to raise the alarm within minutes, another 5-8 minutes for fire to attend, got to be more to it. I'm no fire investigator but seen enough jobs over the years to have a good enough idea.

That will be an option is said person want's to upgrade it, so far so good. Literally just an upgrade job at this time and go from there.

I'm looking at just doing a Windows 10 inplace upgrade as its free. Will take an image of it which I suppose I can always restore if needed. I don't dabble in desktop too much these days so wanted an opinions before I did it.

Been asked to upgrade a Windows 7 Home Premium HP PC, AMD E2-3200 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 2.40GHz with 4GB ram to Windows 10. It's a dual core processor, suspected around 10 year old PC would you bother or replace? Only come about with Win 7 EOL, its a home user. they did ask the question is it worth it at that point I had not powered on. My thoughts are its gonna run like a dog and probably should look at replacing.

Does it show the correct user in the printer when you directly print that you are expecting it to be? On your follow me have you got any scripts or restrictions? Also not using a client popup that is timing out on the Cloudready device?

If you publish a direct printer can you print something to check that works? If jobs are not showing in the release you have an issue, anything in the logs?

if you go to printers and then jobs pending release at the top can you see the job you have submitted, who does it show the username as? Also presume the printer you are printing to if your followme one, does that work fine in windows? On the Cloudready device what credentials are you authenticating as?

I lost a Seagate years ago and have never used once since. Only other one to go was an OCZ SSD a few years ago. Tend to stick to WD and Samsung now.

Are there any tools/utilities to use GPO (Linux version) to managed Linux machines?

Is your AP tagged with your guest network VLAN on the switch port as well as the uplink?

We looked at it about 10 years ago (not in a school though) and a number of us were all up for it but it never lifted off the ground. I think you need so have someone with some good Linux knowhow to get the best out of it and there is no reason why it won't work, I think it's more a time and resource issue to get it off the ground and provide training where needed. Unless you are using some bespoke Windows app there is no reason why everyday users cannot use it, any anything Windows could be hosted via RDP/Citrix/VDI what ever you want. Having worked very heavily with Windows and dabbled in Linux from a licensing perspective, hardware replacement (will last longer) there are savings to be had. Rarely see Linux in use these days except for the odd server, in fact I did configure 2 print servers on Linux last year but that project failed at the customer level.

My new employer doesn't have home drive for users. The idea is all is done for work and is work for said team. Exception for a small number of users but I was quite surprised to see that.

Aruba have the same functionality as the above and theirs is called a RAP, it just create a VPN tunnel back and broadcasts your WiFi and deals with the VPN itself.

In my eyes there should never be anything of "personal" on work network, same with emails I have a personal email account for that purpose. Anything sent and received at work is forwarded to personal account if needed and deleted unless it relates to my job. I certainly don't store anything personal on my area, most I have is a mileage form or two etc or change of details type forms as these are work related.

Database has already been in use for a number of years with some data in it. It does me for what I am doing with it, its a home project.

It will only work on Internet Explorer or using a IE plug on Chrome. You then have to double click on the left tree so it displays that image live, you will see a green light next to it.

With VoIP no reason not to roll them out everywhere. Paying per extension so one has had you on that, that doesn't sound right.

So put your Payzone on a static, create a rule outbound to allow 80 and 443, no different to a PC web browsing but not going through a proxy. If you know destination IP add this as destination to make it more secure simple as. The company will be able to provide a list of destinations and ports needed, if not tell them bye bye.

I've got a D-Link DGS-1100-08P of all switches, POE, L2 managed. Not my first choice but for £30 cannot complain.
