Printer Properties > Advanced > Printing Defaults. Anything set in there will apply as default for users. Chane in there and you are sorted.

I was actually looking into this recently and not aware of any that do but Andrews & Arnold kept coming up as the ones for this.

I would personally be creating an account per staff member, I wouldn't be using generic details simple as.

Surely the bit of paper is easiest, just ensure that the password is a random one on the paper they are prompted to change and once that's done that bit of paper is useless really.

I can recommend Safe Control, they work all over the country so will travel. I have used them on and off for 15 years, they have done the bulk of local authority and health work around here over the years.

Money on routing, might need to put a route in on your controller and the USG. If you can post up a diagram that might be a help but routing caught me out on one the other week. Must admit they are the nicest of devices to work with at times.

Has anyone spoken to their waste providers and see if they offer anything? Most cartridges are fully recyclable these days, just that many companies do not take them as they are "contaminated" due to the toner. In theory there is no reason why they cannot be recycled with your normal plastics (depending on provider). Failing that and you don't want to pay to bin them why not put them in normal waste if no one will take them, that's what I know the majority of people to do.

Some of our network uses Unifi for site to site, I configured all my kit in the office and then took it to site. I did have to get someone in the office to recreate the site to site VPN but it should just work if configured before you go to site. I must admit I'm not keen on using the Unifi stuff but its cheap for our smaller sites. Routing was the next big headache too but your network is a lot more simpler that ours!

I raised a RFC to upgrade ours and when I saw that put a stop to it. Not had chance to fully look but when I saw there was issues that was enough for me at the minute.

Why if your line restricted to 25Mbps?

Can you not put a PC in the office just for the purpose of this? Or do you have a terminal service you can install it on and they RDP onto that?

As long as you have regular backups of what you need that important and in a way/format that works for you. Ideally back the whole lot up once a night or weekly depending the needs, all business are different and some can afford some data loss where as others cannot. Maybe setup a nightly sync to the cloud of the data then it might give you several days worth that could be restored.

Any permissions set on folders? Backing up servers would allow a speedier restore as no need to build and then copy data over, 1 job to restore does the lot. If its literally a file share and no permissions up to you.

There are devices like the Silex ones, they made the Belkin USB network hub as I had one and have to use their software to make it work these days. There are not great, if you can get an expansion card to make what you have network capable that would be better. What are you trying to connect? There are some devices that will extend USB over network which will be more reliable but will depend on distance.

We are a PRTG house and not looking to move from that at present just expand what we are monitoring and more in depth.

Those of you with larger networks with services hosted externally do any of you monitor services externally so your alerted when there is possibly an issue so you can expect calls from users? We use PRTG and have a number of things we access remotely to us but at the minute we only monitor our side of things and even then we had an instance the other week when we lost internet connectivity but the external connection was still up so need to look at ways and change what we monitor so we know things are down as such. Things like DNS servers, Office 365 mail and Teams, is there a good way to do this within software like PRTG?

Is the config been saved to the switch as some will let you change the config but unless you save it to the switch it will dump on restart.

Can you connect to anything else via IP? What DNS is set on your client when connect to VPN?

I have a Jabra headset I use with Teams and also out VoIP client, really good quality and comfy to wear too.

Do you speak to them or not? Would all depend on how well you get on with them, personally sounds like they don't give a crap and I wouldn't waste my time.

I think its that folder yeah, you can copy to to a location within C:\WINDOWS if I remember rightly, years since I done it on Win 98!

Playing with old OS's.

You would need a network scanner of which there are ones out there but not aware of any that are compatible with PaperCut directly even then many are smaller devices (that I've come across) a MFD to me is still best way for bulk scanning, 1 machine for all. If they are in a low end volume area look at a mono machine at say 30 pages per minute, cheaper to run but will still scan. Don't let onto the company that its gonna be used for loads of scanning as they will be loosing out and want to sell you a bigger machine that is more "suitable". Majority of mono machines now scan in colour so win win. Sharp do a range of smaller desktops but have a good ADF but be mindful smaller machines often cost more. Lexmark and HP also integrate into PaperCut but personally I would always go for something like Sharp/Toshiba, known machines, in particular Sharp and Kyocera were first to get integrated scanning with PaperCut.
