I use https://uptimerobot.com/ for our small company, but all I check are SMTP, and HTTPS on our mail server. We have our Exchange server on-premises and if the Outlook Web App goes down unexpectedly, I know the internet to our office has broken. I monitor SMTP separately just in case there's a misconfiguration anywhere that results in our MX record breaking without me knowing about it.

Norphy's suggestion is exactly what I've done, as it's been my experience too that band steering on consumer-grade routers is awful. Set up 2 SSID's - one just "NetworkName" and one "NetworkName-2.4". If all you can see is the 2.4 one, it's possible your laptop cannot connect to 5GHz bands because the wireless card is too old. You could also look at the 2.4GHz b/g/n settings, as if you have a slower device on the network somewhere connecting to the 2.4GHz frequency it will slow all other devices on that frequency down.

You haven't mentioned (or if you have I'm sorry that I've missed it) whether these users are connected to the same frequency e.g. 5GHz or 2.4GHz? I've seen that make a massive difference. You'd probably have to check on the router which one each client is connecting to.

Yes. It will let you connect to the SQL database from a workstation, and manage the database. It is the same software that might be installed on the server and used on the database host to manage it, similar to using RSAT to manage Windows servers. Overcooked 1 & 2 great for local play, and Overcooked 2 lets you play over the internet on different PC's. Portal 2 might be a good one but it's only 2 person co-op. Adventure Maps in Minecraft are possibly a good shout - they give you a 'story' or 'questline' to work your way through together.

I'd use SSMS (SQL Server Management Suite) but I don't know if the latest version should be used to connect to an SQL 2008 database (it will most probably work, but may have unintended side effects). https://www.itsupportguides.com/knowledge-base/sql-server/how-to-install-sql-management-studio-2008-r2/ does this help?

You could possibly do this with a hidden boolean field (TRUE/FALSE) for whether they're in the date range, which may simplify lookups. Then some kind of pivot table with that as a filter, and the Count of StudentID maybe? I don't often get to play in Excel but that might give you some other ideas.
