Just testing in a vm migrating from SQL 2012 to SQL 2016. The database is just for SIMS & FMS I am actually using my old notes from installing SQL2012. There are 2 features I am not sure about as 2012 did not list them. R Services (in-Database) PolyBase Query service Do I need these features? This is just a small primary school and I do not really want to select an option if it is not needed. Cheers :0)

I am in the process of migrating a small primary school over from Office 365 to G Suite. I have already created the domain in G Suite as a primary, added all the users and everyone has logged in once. A few posts I have read (and even Google support) seem to suggest my next stage is to migrate the emails and files over before switching the MX records, but I am wondering why this order? The problem I can see is that our LA will need to update the MX record, they have already said it will not be over a weekend, and they can only give a rough time / day that it will get done. So if I migrate all the emails over, those users could potentially still get emails in the old inbox until the LA update the MX record. Has anyone switched MX records before migrating emails and files from the old system?

I just stumbled on to a page on the Smarttech site that is for remote managing the interactive TV's and possibly installing Google Play Store apps, but from what I can tell, this is not a free product. This is for a small primary school so wondering if we can do this without having to purchases additional software? Does the remote management software work and do the apps all run OK?

Which half term are you thinking :0P

Apparently for Hyper-V it should not make a difference if it is on the domain or not as the hyper-v should cache the login details, but I have always had my hosts off the domain.

[sims] SIMS Finance (Cloud not FMS) - Any Schools adopting this?
TwistedHelixis replied to benIT's topic in MIS Systems
Thanks for the info. So even if Sims does go online (in 30 years) my primary schools will still need to maintain a server running SQL just for a database that is titchy. -
Sorry, this could have got posted in a number of different forms, so please move if needed. Just about to order a new server and will probably install server 2019 as a GUI host with 2019 VMs. So, over the years I have asked this question and each time I get a different answer. When the new server arrives should I set it up as UEFI or as BIOS? Obviously this choice has an impact over the lifetime of the server, which in the primary schools I look after can be 10 years.

Is this online version only for academies & MATS? All my primary schools are desperate for an online version of FMS -

Not sure about the inkjets you mention but generally inkjets are water based and the text can get washed away if it gets wet, which is not great for printing / sending letters. - - - Updated - - - Does anyone use Printerland for toner replacements? -

@andy_b did it come with starter toners? Just worried the cashback means they send it out without toners -

I think we do it the other way round and disable clients from scanning network drives but have on access for any drives on the server. -

Its a selection box, down the side bar on Amazon. -
I need to get a replacement colour laser printer for the head, it needs to be colour laser & can also do double sided. Last one she had was HP and the drivers for her windows 10 surface pro were a total nightmare, yes the printer did support windows 10 but not sure it should have. Anyway I have been looking at the following but have never got a Brother before, so open to any none sales suggestions or advice as printers are really not my thing. https://www.brother.co.uk/printers/colour-laser-printers/hl-l8260cdw https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brother-HL-L3230CDW-Wireless-Connected-Printing/dp/B07FY1MNC3/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1553190584&sr=8-6&keywords=colour+printer https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brother-HL-L3210CW-Printer-Wireless-Connected/dp/B07FXY8VW8/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1553190584&sr=8-16&keywords=colour+printer

Hope you don't mind the hijack :0) If a primary school that is currently using Sims & FMS (Capita) moved over to Arbor, would the school need to look at FMS alternatives as I believe FMS integrates with Sims.

All on same IP range, no GPO. Tried from my personal phone but still nothing. I have found a section on the smarttech website (linked below), under the screen share section it lists some ports for Google Cast. FYI - Screen share does work as we can draw on a tablet screen and it will appear on the smartboard. In order to get the cast working, do I actually need to allow external ports to our network seeing as we are just casting within the same room / network? https://support.smarttech.com/docs/software/iq/en/configuring/configuring-the-network.cshtml

We have a number of 'SMART' interactive TV's by smarttech, (Smarttech make Smartnotebook software etc) One of the built in options is to cast. On the TV, it says it is connected to the network (Wifi) and will display as cast device TV 1. If I open Chrome on a laptop and then open cast, it does list TV 1, but then fails to connect. If I open cast on my Android phone it does not find any devices & the same from an iPhone. Does this actually work for anyone?
