Group Policy not applying (worked before network was turned off)
TwistedHelixis replied to Darylrese's topic in Windows 10
If you are sure the hardware part of the network is 100% fine I would assume its an issue with the DNS server. Do you have your DNS server set to delete old records every x days or not? Check that DHCP records match those in DNS -
One thing I have just noticed, if I get each user to import the 365 emails to G Mail themselves (its only a couple of clicks in G Mail ) there is a tick box to continue to import new emails for the next month. This is actually very handy as the staff could be given access to G Suite and use that but still receive emails from office 365, until I switch the MX records.

BTW I have also posted this on the Google forums but do normally find Edugeek a much better place for help & support. I have just taken over a small primary school that are using both Office 365 and G Suite. Office 365 is setup on the schools main domain (.sch.uk) and is also the main email system. G Suite has been setup on some random domain (.org.uk). Also 80% of the staff are on Office 365 & 20% are on G Suite, what a mess. I have been asked to move everyone to G Suite and I am just trying to get my head around the best way to move the G Suite domain to the correct domain and also move everyone over to G Suite. Q1. Is my first step to add the correct domain to my G Suite domain. If so, do I do this as a Domain Alias or as another domain? Q2. Would I be best moving the 20% of current G Suite users from G Suite to Office 365, then moving the G Suite domain and then moving all staff from Office 365 to G Suite, or would you recommend another course of action?

So what I have done so far is at the new domain create a new Team Drive, I then tried move the files from the Team Drive that is shared from the old domain to the team drive in the new domain, but I get an error about sharing files outside the old domain. In G Suite admin I have my admin acc in a separate OU from the staff & Governors, I have turned off all the block settings etc that I can find in the apps / drive / sharing section. I probably need to leave things for 24 hours to update and then see what happens

One of my primary schools has just federated with another school. Rather than having 2 separate governing boards they now have one, they have given themselves a name and new logo etc. I have set the new governing board up with a new separate G Suite domain, but I now need to migrate the governors team drives from both schools to this new G Suite domain. I am able to share the current Governor team drives with the new domain. I then thought I could remove the old users assigned to the Team Drive so the only users listed are from the new domain, but although this does work the drive still says it is owned by the old domain and not the new domain. I seem to remember this was the method to transfer ownership of drive files, Is this not the correct method for team drives?

I seem to be go round and round trying to get the Drive sharing settings locked down in G Suite admin panel, and making a minor change to one setting then seems to have an unintended effect on another. For example I wanted to restrict the staff accidentally sharing Drive files with WWW & public, so removed that tick, but now the office staff get a sharing warning every single time they send an email. I was wondering if someone would share their / apps / Drive & Team Drive / sharing settings /, just the off - whitelist - on settings you have for teachers & office OUs Might also be handy to know what you have set for Access Checker, just under sharing. Thanks in advance

These are the tools I use for changing the exif dates in a photo. Both can do batches of photos etc. https://www.relliksoftware.com/exifdatechanger/ https://www.advancedrenamer.com/ Although I am wondering if this is actually a exif date issue or something else like Windows 10 creating the folder in a different way

I have to really good tools for doing this in a simple GUI, I am out now but will post them both later, they are both free and I have used them for years.

Recently took over a new primary school and the server is a mess. Both C & D drives are low on space and noticed that WSUS was installed on the DC which is not really a great idea, so thought I would remove the role and hopefully free up a bit of space. After removing the role and rebooting I noticed I have not gained any space back, even though WSUS itself was listing a load of products in its database. I seem to remember WSUS listsing about 120gb of updates. Should removing the role have given me back this space? Where would WSUS updates have been stored and can I manually delete them?

Signing the user out of Chrome (not gmail) and then back in has always sorted these odd issues for me
-
The teacher said her laptop had just finished rebooting after a windows update when the issue occurred.
-
We just had a similar issue after updating but the screen was white. For use, deleting the users profile and logging back in seems to have fixed the issue.

Just in the process of ordering a new server and this time I want to setup the drives using RAID 10 + 1 hot spare. DELL have come back with a quote with 6x 600GB 10K SAS Drives, but am I correct that I would need one more drive to have a hot spare, as raid 10 uses pairs of drives in a mirror, or can RAID 10 be setup using 5 drives?

But it does not limit it to just that domain. With sharing outside the domain enabled I can share to anyone. One point to note is that if I login as a teacher they do not get the option to share the drive as I have just removed that option from the Team Drives. I think Whitelisting might only really for Drive and and Team Drive is separate. You can at least pick the team Drives settings individually for each Team Drive, so only need to have one or two with 'Share outside this domain' enabled
-
I have setup domain Whitelist between 2 schools, but when I try to share a Team Drive between the schools I get a message about not being able to share outside my domain. If I open the Team Drive settings and change the setting 'Allow sharing outside my domain' to allow, I can then share, but does this not defeat the point of setting up a Whitelist as anyone in that Team Drive could now share with any other domain?

The school want to make sure that nobody can edit our data on Google Maps, but when I click 'claim this business' I just get We are sorry, but you do not have access to this service. Please log in to admin.google.com to enable services. We are a G Suite school, which service is the message referring to? If I leave the service switched off, will anyone trying to 'claim this business' just get the same message? If so should I just leave it off as nobody can claim it. Any advice
