All my school were given / setup with both G Suite and Office 365 and all of them preferred G Suite. The other schools around me that are Office 365 were not given the choice but I have been asked by a couple recently to help them move over.

I have been asked to see if we can have a list of how much colour or black & white printing each teacher does for our Ricoh MFD? This is a small primary school and whatever gets put in place we do not want to cause issues for the pupils printing, even the reception class print. I know it is possible to setup some kind of pin number system but seem to remember this blocks the printing for everyone without a pin number, although I could be wrong. So is there a way to easily track how much the staff are printing without impacting on their ease to print or block anyone?

iPad Management with Apple Profile Manager
TwistedHelixis replied to JonnyAlpha's topic in O/S Deployment
Sorry deleted as made no sense -
Two primary schools have federated, both use G Suite. Rather then having two separate Governor bodies they are forming a joint Governors group and have now got a new name and a logo. I have been asked to setup the new governors group with a new email, drive and website all under a new Domain name. I think it is possible to add a separate domain to an existing G Suite domain, at least it seems to be for G Suite business accounts (not sure for educational). So my questions are 1. Can I legally setup the new Governors group domain under a school domain, as the only cost would be for the domain name itself? 2. Is it best to do this using an existing G Suite domain or should I just set up a completely separate new domain & G suite account, and get the Governors group to pay any costs.

Just updating some drive sharing settings in G Suite. Because we have different settings for different OUs (but not all) I am currently having to click on each and every OU, then scroll down and check if that OU needs the setting added or not. Is there an easy way to see which OUs are getting the defaults from the top domain and which have been overridden?

I have setup domain whitelist between 2 schools so they can create and share a team drive. I added the other schools domain to the whitelist in both G Suite admin panels I created 2 Team Drives, one was created in each domain and then shared to the other (using my accounts to share) The first Team Drive works fine, I can upload a test file from both domains, but the second team drive I can only upload a file from the domain that created the team drive. When I try to upload a file from the other domain I just get 'Failed to upload' displayed for a second. Obviously I have looked at the Drive sharing options, but nothing is jumping out at me that might cause this issue. Anyone got any pointers?

[sims] New SIMS server (clean install on a new VM)
TwistedHelixis replied to mb2k01's topic in MIS Systems
You should be fine on a live system. I run one similar as a task. All it does is copy the passwords from the SQL database an into the Sims database. We also do one for FMS -
Currently have a server running server 2012r2 and would like to install 2019. I read a post (cant find it now) that not all systems are supported, something to do with CPU paging, but this was a while back and I could be remembering it wrong. The server is a DELL PowerEdge T420 which is almost 4 years old but still under warranty and the processor is intel xeon E-2 4xx v2. On the DELL site for my server it only lists up to server 2012r2 but that page has not been updated in years so is probably out of date. Does anyone know if my server will work with 2019 or how I should find out?

Not 100% sure, nobody has mentioned any issues in a few weeks. I might do some testing later

unfortunately turning this off is not an option for me. The school had been testing Team Drives for a while but kept overwriting each others work, they had just asked me to move back to the onsite server when Google released this feature. Its the only reason we are still using Team Drives. Eventually I will get them using G Docs etc but this is a small steps type of school.

Going from Server 2012r2 to 2019 and in-place upgrade
TwistedHelixis replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in Windows Server 2019
One last question:0) Do you think a server with SQL + Sims will survive a migration from 2012r2 to 2019? -
What is the Google admin fix?

Going from Server 2012r2 to 2019 and in-place upgrade
TwistedHelixis replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in Windows Server 2019
Out of interest, is there a preferred order to update, host first and then virtual machines or the other way round. I can imagine benifits for both options. Also if everything is upgraded is it possible to update the VM to the latest Gen, I think its 8 or 9 on 2019 -
So is it not possible for your LA to simple supply you with the backup file you need to import in the new MIS? Just seems very long winded when all the LA need to do is give you your data in a form you need.

G Suite - Groups settings question - Governor is an Admin
TwistedHelixis replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in Cloud Services
The school has also recently had a new head (we are both new to this school), so I sent her a message along with a very long list of other issues I have found so far, and she agrees that moving forward I should take over, but in a phased approach over the next few weeks. My phased approach will be to go in immediately and fix ALL security issues I have found so far and remove the Governor from the admin roles :0) -

Do I need to shutdown server to install additional drive?
TwistedHelixis replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in Hardware
Just checked and it is SATA drives. So you suggest shutting the server down, install drive, power on server and config as hot spare in OS using Dell server manager??? -
Current server was installed without a hot spare so I have ordered one. When it arrives I am wondering if I can plug it in while the server is live? The server is PowerEdge T440 and the raid card is perc h730p. I have spent the last 20 minutes dredging through websites but can't locate this one bit of info (Google powers are weak today)

I have recently taken over a small primary school and the entire G Suite setup is very different from the way I have set things in the past, it's a lot more relaxed from a security perspective. They still have the G Suite admin (Governor) looking after it, so I cant just go in and make any changes. I Just wanted to check what the implications of having 'view topics' enabled for the entire organisation are on something like the SLT Group or Governors group. Does this actually mean anyone using G Suite at the school could view the topics? Thanks
