Our secondary domain is only for the Federation to email each other or save some docs, but when they go to send an email it also lists everyone in our primary domain and this is apparently causing a bit of confusion. In G suite, can we block email addresses showing between primary & secondary domain? Cheers

I am starting to think about migrating Sims & FMS from SQL 2012 to SQL 2016. I just started to read the migration docs our LA have sent me and at the start it says Customers on SQL Server 2012 will be supported up to and including the SIMS 2018 Autumn Release. I am not even sure what they are refereeing to as I thought SQL 2012 was supported for another year or so. Do they mean the migration tool? Should I be worried?

Just about to get some quotes to replace our primary school server, and I can't decide how many drives to get. (BTW I have not included the extra hot spare drive in my calculations below) Current storage on the server is 6 x 600gb SAS drives in RAID 10, this gives us 1.8 tb of drive space, but we are only currently using 600gb for or 2 VMs (DC & Data) Now I know you should get enough room to grow but we are actually shrinking, and most of the files on the current server in the Data VM have already been moved to the cloud, so these will not get copied over to the new server. If I get 4 x 600gb drives that will give me 1.2 tb of space. Even using the same space used on the old setup, that would leave me with about 500gb. The host will need some, so lets give that 100gb. That leaves me with about 400gb. But we will need this server for 5 years, and 5 years is a long time, so I have this little voice in my head saying get 2 more 600gb drives. The issues I have with getting an additional 2 drives is a) money, they are not cheap and we may never need the space. b) 4 drives are recommended as the sweet spot when it comes to fault tolerance, any more and the chances go up of a drive failure. Anyone else got any thoughts or pointers. What would you do?

also there is a way to get the entire iso on a usb, I seem to remember the tool will create a boot fat 32 partition but also create another partition using NTFS - do a search for 'install server 2016 from usb' in Goolge

I just called Google and all will be OK. When I add my [email protected] account in G Suite, Google systems are clever enough to know that address does already exist and even if its a personal account linked back to an office 365 user, they will email the account asking if the owner wants to migrate all there apps / settings to the new account, which will be the one I have setup in G Suite. YAY

The BIG issue I am going to have is.... I am just in the process of moving all our staff from Office 365 over to G Suite. Office 365 was setup with the schools real domain (school.sch.uk), G Suite was not. So I have just added school.sch.uk as a second domain to our G Suite and I am just about to make that the primary domain. So my G Suite domain will then also be school.sch.uk When I then setup all the new users in G Suite under the school.sch.uk domain, what on earth am I going to do when I need to add the office@ account? Google will already have an account in its database for [email protected] Does that make sense?

Thanks for the reply. Problem with doing that is they will then not have access to their office files & calendar in whatever Google system they are using. Also the office person using this works from home for 2 days so they will still be logging in.

So the LA who setup the ipads have suggested they activate through the Mac mini. I have just arrived onsite and the network cable plugged in to the Mac Mini is not actually plugged in to a socket. It has been located in a corridor where there are no sockets for at least a year. So my first question is, should the Mac mini be switched on for the activation to work?

I am now not sure if it would have been a personal account, do google let users login to the free personal apps using a none Google domain. Currently the office is logging in using [email protected] [email protected] is an office 365 user account hmmm

Would I be correct in thinking that the Google account the office are using is in fact not G Suite but a personal account, they have logged in to using the office email address which is attached to 365?

I am just going to go with logic on this one and assume they do keep their original logins.

So the small primary I have recently taken over have both office 365 & G Suite, none of these have been configured correctly, but that is all in other posts and not worth going over again. The issue I have discovered today when trying to fix an issue for the office, is there is no office@ account in G Suite / users, they seem to be using Google Apps logged in as the office account created in Office 365. Firstly is this possible? Secondly, if they do not even have an account in G Suite, how am I I supposed to manage them? How can I enable or disable the apps etc? I can't get my head round the way this is working. Can anyone offer any advice?

The following I am not understanding, or is counter to the way I think it works. I do not want my users to sign in and use the new domain, I need them to still login under the old domain, which will be the secondary domain. Just about to switch the correct domain from secondary to primary. If I have users in the current primary domain will switching this to being a secondary domain have any impact on those users? I would have thought not, but in the Google blurb it mentions making sure the users have an alias for the other domain so they can still log in, without any reference to why they say this. I am assuming if I still want those users to login under the second domain I can just ignore this, and all will be OK.

They have 7 other iPads at the school that do work, so they must have had the firewall & ports setup at some point.

Firewall is controlled by our LA. I have sent them a massage but think it should be fine as they will have other schools with iPads Not an option as the school gets no phone signal.

Does the following help anymore. Just had this email message back. The time is correct, however it is on the white screen phase, as if setting an iPad up, so cannot see/change the date.

Sorry, I could not find an iPad forum and this seemed the best place :0) I have recently taken over a very small primary school. They have a very small trolley of iPads (8) and what I think is a Mac mini on the top, which looks like it is turned off. I have just received an email from a teacher saying that one of the iPads has the following error - Your iPad could not be activated because the activation server cannot be reached. They have also tried to connect the iPad to their laptop and iTunes, but that does not work. What is the best way for me to start fault finding this issue, what questions should I ask the teacher? BTW - I had planned to learn the iPad setup when I started, but the network & server were in such a bad way that most of my time until now has been spent fixing this.

Yes but it is the migration tool that you should use if you are moving between different SQL versions, or so I have been told.

When you migrated did you use the Capita migration tool? or just install the new SQL version and import the database? The tool gets the database ready for the new version.

lol I wish. I will send in the request to our LA (who control the schools external DNS) then at some random point in time I might get an email back saying it was done, although I will probably find out from my users before then, when I get lots of tickets about the email not working.

I was just thinking about this and don't think you needed a throw away domain. I currently am at the point where both 365 & G Suite are using the same domain, but have not switched the MX records yet so 365 is receiving the emails. When I have added all the users to G Suite I will simply point the MX record at G Suite but the users should still be able to access the old 365 emails.

I am no DNS expert but if I was you (probably a better way of approaching this) I would turn off one of the DNS servers (the one you think might be an issue) and see if the issues continue or not.
