What is the best way to re install SIMS onto a clinet PC. SIMS has a fault on one computer so I need to re install it. I did do this a few years ago and seem to remeber just re naming the SIMS folder in the C drive / program files folder, but cant remeber what else I did.

How many schools still on Office 2013?
TwistedHelixis replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in Office Software
Those schools are G Suite schools but SIMS still needs MS office :-( -
Just wondering how many schools are still on Office 2013? I have a school on 2019, one on 2016 and two on 2013, but I dont see any big differences between the different versions that is worth my 2 schools updating from 2013, appart from the EOL updates issue

What I ment was, they are already seperate and I have been deploying the apps to the users OU, without knowing that was the only way it would work :0) -
Chromebook Apps - deploy to device or user
TwistedHelixis replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in Cloud Services
That's lucky, as that's what I have been doing so far :0) -
Just wondering what is best practice when pushing out Chromebook apps. Do you add them to the device or user OU? I can see issues with either option. Device OU, although we do have seperate staff & pupil device OU's I know its best not to apple to much based on device OU, in case the Chromebooks get used by someone else that needs different settings. User OU, if we force out an app under the user and that user then logs onto their own personal chromebook at home using the schools account, it would then force out all the school software to their home device. BTW we do deploy Android apps to our Chromebooks.

stripey printing issue - has this been fixed. Had an email from a teacher saying they have applied all the updates but it's still not printing correctly.

Which step do you change the name? 1. build new server 2. give it a temp IP Address 3. Join to domain and promote to DC 4. Add FSMO roles etc 5. Change old DC IP address 6. Reboot the old DC at least twice - you need to clear all reference to it from AD 7. Wait for replication to complete - about an hour 8. Give new DC old DC IP address 9. Reboot the new DC 10. Wait for replication 11. Demote the old DC 12. Relax

Why not get the sales rep to come in from each company and show you each product or give you a remote demo, it's the only way you will actually get a feel for what they do.

What a nightmare. I have some users that get the crashing computer issues every time they print and others that get the banding image issue, I need a break now please.
-
I just assumned the order would be..... a. build new server. b. give it a temp IP Address. c. Join to domain and promote to DC d. Add FSMO roles etc e. Wait for replication to complete - about an hour f. Demote old server g. turn off old server h. Give new DC old DC IP address i. Reboot the new DC j. do ipconfig /registerdns Just double checking - So is my way not correct? and is everyone in agreement that step 5 should be 'change old DC IP'?

So you suggest changing them all, I was told to only change Drive & Email, although cant remember why.

Problem with that is, whatever they created would have only worked on i devices, Google & MS's cloud is for any device so in my opinion this is a much better option for education.
-
Realised that when I hit post. What about other devices?

How does this work in relation to disposal rules? We get a certificate from the company that collects our old equipment which covers us from legal action should student or staff data ever be found on those devices.

I look after 4 different schools, one is now a Chromebook school, one is now an iPad school, the other two are a mix of laptops and Androids. As you can see I don't have any issues getting the school what they want rather than what I want, they all have there place. That being said my order of prefence at the moment is Chromebook, Laptop, iPad, Android. EDITED

Mainly Google docs or Sheets. I also keep a paper record of the important stuff in the school safe. Was thinking of using Google Keep, which although not as good as One Note is similar (ish)
