I would like to change our password rules from a min of 8 characters to min 10 and also remove the password request of change from every 6 months to 'never ask the user to change their password' on our Windows domain. If I make those changes do the users get requested to update their passwords with the new changes instantly / never or at someone point later? EDIT - We are currently using Fine Grained Password Policy to control staff passwords.

I look after a few schools and for some reason its always the ones with Sharp that I seem to have the most issues with.

For whatever reason, recently I keep getting 'request for access' requests for files or folders in the school's shared drives. We have our Shared Drives locked down so only the Admin (me) can add or remove shared drive users and we dont use file or folder level permissions, the permissions are all set on the root only. Speaking to someone that I recieved a 'request for access' from, they wanted to share a folder with the other members of the shared drive in an email, the way they did this was to right click on the folder in the shared drive and click share, they then typed in the teachers group and clicked share. I then get a 'request for access' message asking for edit access to a folder for the teachers group. When I check who has access to both the shared drive and the folder it already lists the Teachers group with edit access. Any ideas why I am getting this issue? Is it possible to remove the 'Share' option from files in a Shared Drive and only have 'Link Shareing' as an option, it's not like the members of a shared drive can actually add or remove users on the folders or files anyway as its locked down.

There is a setting in Admin console > Apps > Google Workspace > Drive and Docs > Migration settings > Allow users to migrate files to shared drives, that enables users to move files from My Drive. Reading up on this setting it also allows users to also move files between Shared Drives and I am worried that if I enable this we will see the return of missing folders / files that used to happen on our old file server, where teachers would drag folders all over the place by accident. Just wondering if others have this setting enabled or not?

This is odd as Reports, audit log, admin lists some of the accounts but not all. It seems to only list more recently added users. Does this only go back a year or so? If I type in a user that was created a few years ago nothing gets retuened :-(

Is there a way to findout who created a new user in G Suite? At one of my schools the business manager and head can create users / groups and I would like to findout which one of them created a new user. i have looked through the audit section but cant find this info

Chrome books with office365 account?
TwistedHelixis replied to dobbyit's topic in Educational Software
Honelstly although I prefer Chromebooks over laptops in a school setting, in your case I would get them switched for laptops if that's what you asked for. otherwise sign-up for Google edu and take your time getting that setup, you could also use Google Classroom. Lots of the primary schools around me have both systems running. -

Mic not working just on Teams meetings - driving me nuts
TwistedHelixis replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in Cloud Services
Yes, but it stopped working a few weeks ago. luckily I have given her a spare laptop that works but I would rather it was working on her own device. Cheers, Ill take a look at those next week when I am back in the school. -
Head has a surface pro and uses both Google Meet and Teams. When she opens Teams (desktop app) her mic does not work. The mic works fine in windows and other software like Google Meet and is selected as the default input in Teams. We even purcased a seperate mic / headphone in the hope it would fix this issue but still no joy. Any ideas, as its sending me a bit loopy trying to workout whats going on. EDIT - I have also tried to uninstall Teams and re install

Android tablets - how to manage them
TwistedHelixis replied to dobbyit's topic in Educational Software
Do you have G Suite? I noticed Google have made a lot of changes to device policies and Android app deployments recently which might make this a usable system finally. BTW we have Chromebooks so I cant really help with the Androids. -
Hi all, I was just looking through our list of installed apps in the admin console and noticed it no longer lists a few apps like Google Classroom and Times tables Rock Stars. If I try to add these back it goes through the motions but nothing is added to the list of apps BTW the apps are still on the chromebooks and working fine. Any idears?

Thought i had a reason (I dont), if a teacher was to login on their own chromebook at home, currently under your single OU for user & decvice, they would be getting the user policies but would they also get your school device policies applying? Scratch that - if the device is not listed in the OU it should not get the policy. You are right there are no reasons to have a seperate devices OU.

Chromebooks in Schools
TwistedHelixis replied to discoveranother's topic in Network and Classroom Management
All my schools are (or were) windows based but one recently purchased 100 Chromebooks for 6y and 5 at a primary school, and wow they have been a massive success and I haven't even given any training yet. About 30 are also being used at home and the feedback from parents and teachers has been lovely. They take longer to unbox than setup. I have also deployed a few apps from the Play Store -
Just checked and I have the WiFi and proxy settings set under devices > networks and then our Chrome Devices OU, so its set for devices. The proxy information has been entered under the WiFI tab in the same location, so is tied to our school WiFi SSID. If the Chromebook does not see our school SSID then the proxy is not enabled, if it does then the proxy is enabled.

When I had a similar issue I wiped the server, started over and restored the VMs from backup. If this is not an option do you still have the virtual hard disk drives on the host hdd? If so you might be able to import those as a new virtual machine which will build a new settings profile for you. BTW I am no VM expert so you might want to Google things first.

We don't seem have these issues with the Chromebooks we lend out. I am too busy atm but will check my settings later
