This school has been using Google Workspace for 5 years and I am the only admin. Today I created a new user and the email confirmation came through in Russian. Any idea why?

Just about to upgrade the WiFi accross a primary school and noticed there are now some WiFi 6 access points out. Going to continue with UniFi Should we get WiFi 6?

We are actually in the middle of rolling this out for the pupils at this school and havent sent out any consent forms yet. We are just setting up the accounts and testing Classroom. Google say we should send consent forms for pupils under 13.

So are you saying as its our core IT provision they cant actually refuse?

We have just had a parent refuse consent for their child to access Google Classroom or any Google core services. This could cause a few problems :-( What if the parents don't want us using SIMS or another main product? Do we just need to find alternative provisions for this one pupil?

I am in the process of enabling the firewall on all my local computers, as an added layer of defence, our LA control the main firewall. For staff that take their laptops home there is an option in GPO to merge the local (Private Profile) firewall rules with any GPO rules. Do you have merge enabled? Out of interest, would you ever merge the domain profile? I assume not but thought I had better check. Any advice about setting up the firewall on laptops that will go home?

Our external firewall is controlled by our LA but just to add an extra layer I have decided to enable the local client firewalls using GPO. The client firewalls will not be crazy locked down but just a barier should someone get access to one laptop in the school. Before I turn on the firewall, do I need to allow Teams through the firewall? If so do I just allow the following as an outgoing rule? Ports UDP ports 3478 through 3481IP addresses 13.107.64.0/18, 52.112.0.0/14, and 52.120.0.0/14

I started a post a couple of months ago where our new HP Chrombooks would drop the WiFi. For me I think the fix was either forcing the units onto a 2.5ghz conection (just for a short while as they were fine on 5Ghz after), upgrading our WiFi firmware but most importantly upgrading ChromeOS.

Ended up deleting the users Windows login profile, when they logged in with a new profile all was good with FMS :0)

Just had this issue on our one FMS computer (primary school) Currently this is set to c:\programdata\fms, do I need to change this location. We dont have a c:\LOCKDIR folder

If you are upgrading SQL there will be a migration tool you should use. it can also be used to move SIMS from one server to another. Sorry I dont have the tool but I would ask your support for it first.

Pulseway - Does all our MS server updates Emails me after each backup has run Lets me start or stop VM from anywhere Automatically run a script if something happens, good for restarting a printyer service etc. Lets me know if any servers go offline or something stops running. Lots more but you get the idea

I believe Google are working on this issue. Hopefully chromeos will be able share a single android app install location for many users.

Can't you migrate the emails from Gmail to 365? I have only gone from 365 to Gmail so not looked in to doing it the other way round, but would imagine you can just migrate the user accounts + emails so everything is the same as it was before. EDIT Google tackout would be my last (end of World) method of getting at email data.

Do you have any duplicate IPs in DNS?

I have moved a school from 365 to Workspace and the staff were really happy. I also have a couple of schools that use both systems together.

So we are now at the point where most of them are working most of the time, but a few will drop the connection and not re connect for a while. Not sure why the bulk of them just decided to start working all at the same time but i'll take the win.

The Governors have asked if they can record their Meet meetings. Reading the docs Google has the following.... You can record if: You’re the meeting organizer You’re in the same organization as the organizer You’re a teacher signed in to your Google Workspace account, but not a student So I assume provided the Governor creates the meeting they will be OK to record, but wondering how they know who is a teacher or student?
