Out of interest, if I do this do I need to keep the database size reduzed, or is it clever enough to delete itself to stay under 1GB. I assume it does it itself but noticed some forums mention setting a backup for SIMPLE mode so the database stays small, which confussed me.

When I did this a while back I added the new scope to DHCP while still keeping the old scope but set as disabled. If something goes wrong you can then jump back to the old scope. All clients got updated to the new IP info when they booted up and I manually changed a few server IP's etc that didn't get an IP from DHCP.

The problem is most schools probably don’t even realise how to make data properly anonymous. Simply putting some letters or a number to represent a user’s data still doesn’t mean the data is anonymous. If that data is in someone’s personal account how would we even know how they have made it anonymous, nobody can even check? I am sure I read somewhere that schools need to do everything within reason to keep their data under their own control, how is letting Governors use their own accounts within reason? I would have thought something so simple as using a school supplied username / password (something primary kids can do) is within the realms of reason. I wonder what the real reasons are for Governors not wanting to use a different account? TBH this is a completely separate minefield for a different post.

Definitely going to be one of those situations. I am an external IT tech and strictly speaking this is nothing to do with me, but I am trying to steer them in the right direction if I can.

The school has their own. You say this but I have seen plenty of other occasions 'school data' has been shared on Governor documents, does it not make 100% sense for any documents to always be under the school's control and never have any grey areas?

One of the schools I help in has recently disbanded the Governors and the LA have taken over for the moment. The school has been a Google School for many years and all their files are in Google shared drives etc. I created each of the new LA Governors an email account + group + shared drive, but they are refusing to use these saying they already have a secure LA account. I sent the head an email explaining it's not really about the security side of things but data protection, retention of pupil data and GDPR compliance but they are still not using the school's supplied systems. Do we just forward what they need to their email accounts as it is the LA requesting this?

Agreed. I am now thinking I might just go all in and build a new server with server 2019 OS, as the old one is 2012r2 and it will need doing at some point soon anyway.

I have just fired off an email to my LA requesting their steps to shrink the Solus3 transaction log file. Just in case they need me to do something differently to the norm.

I will give this a go over the weekend, but from my reading up as we have a C & D drive as partiions on the same drive (not seperate drives), any spare space I allocate can only get re allocated to the D Drive. EDIT - Is this not the case?

is this what you are after? i have just checked and yes it is set to full. Can I just change it to Simple or not? EDIT - SIMS database is set to SIMPLE its the SOLUS one that is set to FULL

I believe you can only expand into free space to the right of a partion, so only my D drive can expand into any free space, not the C Drive. This is why I mentioned 'Create a new F drive. Move all D drive files onto it. delete D drive partition, expand C drive, re create D drive and move files back from F'

I had already deleted the SQL backups, which did get back a lot of GBs but not enough. Will do, thanks This is something I had not even thought of, thanks I'll take a look. I have just run TreeSizeFree and taken the following screen shots. Can I delete any of these files?

So I have just noticed the C drive on our VM SIMS / Data server is getting low. After removing loads of stuff from other suggestions online I am back up to 12gb, but I dont want to wait for it to go down. I have no idea why or what I was thinking but I seem I have installed SQL onto the C Drive :-( SIMS S Drive and DOCSTORAGE are on the D Drive with the other data shares. The server is a VM runing on a Hyper-V host The C & D drives are just partions of the same drive, which I belive makes adding additional space to the C drive a problem. The C Drive has 100gb but has 12gb of space (perhaps there is more I could delete). The D drive has 250GB and has 200GB free. Below are my ideas, but I would love alternatives or recomendations as to what you would do. Create a new F drive. Move all D drive files onto it. delete D drive partition, expand C drive, re create D drive and move files back from F Find some special partition software that can move space from the D Drive to the C Drive. Setup a new server, install and migrate everything. Uninstall SQL, and possibly SIMS, FMS, re install on D Drive. - To me this seem to be the worst option.

Well when I spoke to Smart a few weeks ago to renew our site license they seemed fine with this method. When a license expires it goes into non licensed mode and lots of features are no longer available, so this cant be the reason.

Some are on 21 some 20, just depends if the teacher has upgraded or not and yes they are all connected to Smart screens, but the screens are about 3+ years old now. - - - Updated - - - i seem to remeber being told not to add any users to the Smart web system if I wanted to keep using the older site licening system, otherwise it uses the new user based system, but I could have made that up.

We never login or have any accounts and all teachers have full features.
