With all the printer issues at the moment this did make me chuckle :-) -
Google Drive - Web links / shortcuts to URLs
TwistedHelixis replied to timbo343's topic in Cloud Services
Perhaps I am way off point, if you open the Google form and then click the eye icon, you can share that pages URL with everyone, or copy / paste the URL anywhere, and it will not be in edit mode. -
One problem I had (and fixed), was not being able to deploy printers using GPO to a lot of staff. I found the issue was related to a really old GPO that was set to delete a printer connection. This delete GPO has been fine for many years and not caused any issues until very recently, so imagine it was caused by a recent update. Removed the old policy and instantly all the printers deployed to the staff laptops.

Just installed a new server (2019), old one was 2012R2. Setup a new printer in printer manager, shared it and then deployed it from GPO. Log in to my test Windows 10 laptop and nothing deploys, but it does get listed on the laptop if I do a search for printers. Just added the 'Point and click' GPO suggested in another forum but still nothing. I am logged onto the laptop as a local admin. The GPO is set as 'Update', is this OK? Just to really confuse the issue, I just logged onto a few teachers laptop with my local admin account and the printer gets listed on 2 out of 6. All laptops are in the same OU. Does anyone have any ideas?

Just read the following on PaperCut website. Thought it would be of interst.... You should know that prior to Windows 8, Client Side Rendering could be enabled by checking the box “Render print jobs on client computers” in on your Windows print queue, but newer Windows laptops and tablets (anything with a battery) will deliberately ignore this setting unless it has been forced via Group Policy or PowerShell.

Cant find document in google drive but I can search for it
TwistedHelixis replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in Cloud Services
nothing retuened. Just sat at the teachers laptop and they have a root folder shared with me, this folder had the files getting listed under my Google Drive > computers section. Not sure why she has shared that with me, so I just un shared. Perhaps at some point in the past I deleted it from my 'shared with me folder', and for some very odd reason the files are getting listed under our server backup. I have now uninstalled Google Drive app from my server and will re install, perhaps this will help. -
Cant find document in google drive but I can search for it
TwistedHelixis replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in Cloud Services
So.... Locking at the activity in Google Drive for the backed up server, there is a long list of files being created and edited by 2 teachers. All of them have the same issue as listed in my OP. Very odd -
I am using Google Drive desktop app to Backup a few folders from our server to our Google space. The staff do not save files to this server and use Google drive to save all files. I just clicked on the backed up computer in Google Drive and noticed it listed an edited file by a teacher, which is odd as they cant save anything to this server. Just to double check, I ran a search on the actuall server and it didn't find this document, so I dont think its on the real server. If I go to the details section of the document it just lists 'Google Drive' as the location (nothing else) but I cant see it in my Google Drive. If I look at the sharing for the file it lists me as being shared with, but its not in my 'Shared with me' area If I type the name of the file it comes up in the search list. Any ideas how I can find where this document is actually stored?

We have been using Vostros for years and never had any issues getting parts fixed if needed. We normally get a 4 or 5 year warrenty. I normally contact our account manager at Dell to make any purchases, as you can tweek the order over the offical website builds.

Dell do a range of Vostro laptops, the cheaper ones are not that great but if you go for a slightly more expensive one they are really nice.

@Michael On the page you have linked to you have both... Computer Config > Policies > Admin Templates > Printers > Point and Print Restrictions User Config > Policies > Admin Templates > Control Panel > Printers > Point and Print Restrictions Are you deploying both on your domain or just the one that matches how your printers are deployed?
-
Sorry, I am getting so confussed by all this. I have created the following reg edit key in group policy... Do I need to do anything else to allow admins & non admins to print?

Just had the following email from a teacher, 'I've just gone to print and it says no printers installed. It was working yesterday! Any ideas?!' 'The error says - The print spooler service is not running' Is this to do with all the recent printing issues reported on Edugeek? BTW the user is a local admin user, which I thought wouldn't be effected by any of the recent issues, am I wrong?

I needed the server and clients to be on the oct update for things to work. If the server was on the new update but the client was on an older update we had issues, we also had issues with clients being on the new update but the server not.

Backing up Hyper-V - Your preferred methods
TwistedHelixis replied to CyBeRkId2002's topic in How do you do....it?
I just use Windows server backup, it's been flawless for the past 8 years at all the schools I look after. You can even mount the image and grab single files if needed, or restore the entire VM. Plus, its built into Windows server
