Personally I think Workspace is a better fit for schools but that's just my opinion having actually used both.

So I have backup and sync installed already, then I installed the new Google Drive desktop app. The info at Google help seem to suggest after installing Google Drive alongside backup and sync it would initiate some kind of migration, but this didn't happen. Also when I open the Google Drive settings I dont have any of the backup settings, just the old file stream type settings, even though I just downloaded this version from Google Drive web page.

if only there was a simple way to highlight all the devices listed in the devices section and make them company owned devices :-(

Arbor version looks free to me and seems to do as much as we would need :0)

Yep it does do 365 provision. Can't see anything about AD (yet)

We have just started using Arbor and I just noticed it has a built in API to provision users (Staff & pupils) to Google Workspace - I'm so happy :-)

Yep think thats it - force google drive. Its a bit like having a home drive as anything the user downloads or saves will go directly into their own Google drive, not onto the Chromebook itself. It also makes switching to a new device much simpler as all their files are still available.

The primary i look after all Y6, 5 & 4 are 1-2-1 and can take their Chromebooks home with them. I have all the data auto saved to Google Drive and not the local Chromebook. There is a setting somewhere for this, I would higly recommend setting this up as it also helps with other issues. We dont have any off hours setup but we do push out the schools WiFi / proxy and cert, but this doesn't stop the pupils from entering their own WiFi if they are at home. EDIT - The Chromebooks were so much better to manage and for the pupils to use then the laptops we sent out.

Selecting a device and clicking reset > clear user profile does work :-)

Currently using Google Backup and sync on SIMS servers to backup a few files / folders. I have just recieved an email saying that I need to transition over to Google Drive for Desktop but when I look at that there are no options to backup local folders or files, only seems to sysnc Google Drive or Shared drive folders. Does it now do the same as backup and sync? If not, will it ever do local folder backup?

A few hundred thousand of those with guns and we are all ********

I have just had the following email and I have no idea what the issue could be.... I am trying to delete some of the files in the Shared Drive > Staff Drive > Maths folder and a message keeps coming up saying it has been restored - any ideas? I should point out I have not actually seen the issue, but wondered if anyone had any ideas.

Just had the following email, this is not my thing so I have no idea what to advise. 'I would like to record the end of year play and wondered if it would be possible to record it using our tablets and then burn it to DVDs, if so is there software I should use?' BTW the tablet is an old Samsung and I realise Windows no longer supports DVD burning.

Think I will leave it on apply security. I think staff will just get in a muddle and I'll have even more of a cleanup operation, especially if they make the change for some files but not others.

We have a lot of files publicaly shared via our website, not really sure what to do about this :-(

BTW when I tested a DC going from 2012r2 to 2019, initially I had loads of erros / issues but disabling all the built in virus defender systems in security center, giving the server a number of reboots and installin all the updates seemed to clear every issue.

I know someone that did in place upgrade of Sims server from 2008r2 to 2012r2 then to 2016 and will be doing in place to 2019 this summer.

Hi all, this is our first year using Chromebooks 1-2-1 in years 5 & 6. What is the best way to remove the old years 6 account, so it's ready to handout to the new year 5 class in September. Hopefully I can just click a button and don't need to log in using my 'Chromesetup' account on each one.

For onsite server I just use Windows server backup. We backup each vitual machine to an older server setup with iSCSI, after the backup has run each night I have a script on the iSCSI server to copy the backup to a USB drive. I have a rotation of USB drives so there are always 2 cold backups. I do a full VM test restore every term and I have been doing it like this for over 10 years now. For our Google Workspace backups I use both Spanning and Cubebackup.

Just tested and staff can't access SIMS without the S drive being mapped. I think it's because we redirect the connect.ini file to the S drive

Whenever the s drive was not mapped our users would always get an error message about a missing connect.ini file and couldn't login. I'll fire up a VM and test

Would remving the S drive also stop SIMS from working. Our SIMS.ini file is located on the S drive. Just want an easy way to get SIMS back if something goes sideways with Arbor when we get back next week.

just wondered if there are any remote access solutions that are price based on clients being accessed rather than the amount of users. Basically I have about 8 staff members (could change) that need to access one or two computers remotely, obvioulsy if we got something like TeamViewer this would cost a fortune as its based on user count. BTW we have remote desktop disabled on all devices and I dont want a VPN.
