  2. Yep that will probably do it. I just wanted to check there are no data protection issues with having the TA's login while at home from their personal devices, before I write a reply to the governor. I am not going to block them from going down this road but want them to have all the facts before they do.
  3. We are a G Suite cloud primary school, all the teachers and main staff do have their own laptops which they can take home, but the TA's have always just checked their emails or worked on the odd document from their own devices if needed while at home, they do have access to check from a school device while they are in school. Today we had a governor say that this is not data compliant and they need to access their emails / documents from a school device, or have someone (me) setup and separate account on their device which they can use for school work, which obviously is not an option. While I do agree a school should supply devices for the teachers to work on, I don't think the above issue is a data protection issue, but perhaps I am wrong. My first thought is there are probably thousands of pupils logging in to G suite in the UK along with staff etc from home devices right now. Any thoughts
  4. On reddit there was a search command you could put into the drive search box (it was in a security forum on Reddit as employees where using it) that would return domain based file searches. Sorry I don't have a link to the post but it is possible.
  5. Similar situation. We went with these as they are designed for pupils to use and drop - https://www.asus.com/uk/2-in-1-PCs/ASUS-Chromebook-Flip-C214MA/
  6. When I worked in the city nobody would work remotely without being given the right tools to do the job being asked, I don't see any difference in that for teachers. If a school wants their staff to work from home then give them the tools they need to do that job. Also, same as above, all our laptops last at least 5 years and are a very good investment imo
  7. All OK, wiped it a few times and then for whatever reason it grabbed the profile
  8. The device even has a message saying managed by ......domain
  9. Just setup 65 chomebooks (first time) in G Suite but one has not applied any of the device policy settings I have set. I have checked and the serial number is listed in Devices > chromebooks. Any ide what I need to do next.
  10. UPDATE: When she presses the esc key to enter the recovery page she does see another page flash up. I have asked to to try a few times, just in case she was double pressing the escape key, but still the same issue.
  11. Hello, The bursar has locked herself out of her laptop and is trying to access Bitlocker recovery page by hitting esc key, but it takes her to a different page with options to boot into Windows etc. Obviously clicking boot windows just takes her in a loop back to Bitlocker page. FYI we use a pin number to access the laptops. Any thoughts how I can get to the recovery page?
  12. not at any of the schools I have worked in
  13. They just plug the power, HDMI and USB cable in to the laptop.
  14. All the primary schools that I work in (Teachers and some TA's) across multiple schools all have their own laptops that are assigned to them. they use them in class, PPA and at home. It has been like this for about 8 years now. We also get 14inch screens, anything bigger and the teachers moan about having to carry them, anything smaller and some teachers can't see what is on the screen. EDIT - I came from a city job where remote work wouldn't get done unless we supplied our staff with the tools they needed to work for us. I look at teachers working from home in the same way :0)
  15. Having just read up a few other websites, i think my next 2 questions are.... 1. Dynamic disks or Storage Spaces for the data disks. 2. Do i just install the OS onto one 256gb disk, I cant think of any way to setup both the 256gb drives in a mirror and install the OS onto them. UPDATE: i think its possible to install the OS onto one 256gb drive, then using Dynamic disks setup the other 256gb drive to mirror the OS drive. i can then setup both the 4TB drives as mirrors after. Update2: So I don't think I can use Storage Spaces unless I only have one OS disk, this is because in order to replace a failed disk in storage spaces you first need to install the replacement drive. My Microserver only has 4 bays, so 2x data drives and probably 2 drives for OS. I was rather looking forward to playing / using Storage Spaces, what are your thoughts on using a single drive for the OS rather than mirrored?
  16. Do you mean the software bios raid built into these devices, or the software OS raid built into Windows. I have read a few stories in regards to the software bios raid where the rebuild simply doesn't work after a failed disk. Will do :0)
  17. So I decided I need some backup space at home and already have a Gen 7 HP Microserver gathering dust that I have never really used. Basically I would like to backup all my cloud data in my Google Drive & Gmail using CubeBackup, which does require a Windows OS. I have 2x250gb HP disks that came with the unit 2x4TB disks that I could use for backups. I also purchased Server2019 licence a while back, so would like to use this if possible. The server has bios raid but i don't think its very reliable from reading a few reviews. I would like the data drives Mirrored, but also able to plug into another windows box to read the data if possible. So how would you go about setting this up so that if one of the 4TB data drives goes down, I don't lose all my data. Should I use the BIOS raid in mirror mode on both the 250gb drives for the OS, and then in Disk Manager in OS assign the 2 larger drives as mirrored, or would you do something else completely different?
  18. Hi, Just ordering a new server for a primary school. Its going to be their main server (HOST, DC VM, DATA VM). I normally go for Raid 10 but wondered if I should go with Raid 6. I have never used RAID 6, so a little nervous about going this direction. Got a quote for a DELL T440 with 10x600gb SAS drives. Current server is using 2TB of space 10x600gb in RAID 10 = 3TB > Not sure 1TB of space will be enough for the next 5 years, as I might also use this server for Cloud backup. 10x600gb in RAID 6 = 4800TB > This does give me way more space So my options are, get even more disks and go with RAID 10 or just go RAID 6 Whichever option I choose I am going to need another disk as I like to also have a hot spare. Any thoughts? Sam
  19. Just going through all the settings in Mosyle, at first it was a bit overwhelming but I think its all starting to click into place, I have created some default profiles etc :-). I am now wondering where I put our Smoothwall SSL certificate, is it in Management > Certificates / Custom Profiles? Thanks
  20. What I am trying to workout is, should the devices be listed in ASM (which I assume is my DEP) or somewhere else now the iPads have left the reseller and are out for delivery. Should the reseller have added them to my ASM system already? Basically they are out for delivery but there are no devices listed in ASM or Mosyle and I need to know if I should contact the reseller.
  21. So does that mean they should already be listed in my MDM if the reseller has done their part correctly, or will they get listed after they have been turned on?
  22. So the iPads are getting delivered to the school next week. What is my next step? Do I log into them using my ASM admin account?
  23. I did already enter the reseller info :0) Is this done in ASM. I ticked a box in ASM to automatically list devices in Mosyle when they get added to ASM, is this correct? BTW, thanks for all the help so far :0) EDIT, these are shared devices, I would like without any apple id if possible.
  24. Ok so I have ASM and Mosyle setup with push cert etc. When the iPads get delivered will they automatically appear in ASM / Mosyle if we have told the reseller our DEP info, or do I still need to login on each iPad and add them?
