  1. The local Asda by me also has a fully automated petrol station, no member of staff at all.
  2. I've tested the app recently and it's hit and miss. I couldn't get it to work, even though the option was enabled so I contacted customer support and it now works 95% of the time, although they said they didn't make any changes.
  3. Our local authority turned the feature on when it was introduced and it works well for new chats but as everyone has pointed out for existing chats it's pretty much useless. There is this page where people are being asked to upvote the feature retroactive https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/599053-schools-and-universities/suggestions/43678224-make-new-feature-supervised-chat-retroactive-or-op
  4. We recently replaced our walkie talkies and were advised to use the free frequencies so as such don't need a license.
  5. Hi Everyone, I've just been told that we have purchased Inventry. We would like to have a Visitors Agreement Screen but unsure on how to word it. ideally it will include something with for data protection, CCTV and Safeguarding etc. Would anyone be willing to share their agreement with me so I can use it for a reference? Thanks Noel
  6. We have had constant speed issues over the years, many calls logged and we just get the response everything is fine with the servers and to clear our cache. When we have had weeks of slow speed and had a Bromcom engineer remote onto one of our machines to see the problem suddenly the problem was fixed, a day or two later the problem occurred again. That's happened a few times, we just deal with the slow speed now.
  7. We've just purchased a new Hikvision 128 channel NVR (DS-96128NI-I16) with 128tb storage to allow us to consolidate our cameras onto a single NVR rather than running 2 NVR's. Currently we only have 32 cameras but we're looking at introducing another 30 cameras this year and possibly more next year so the 128 channel will allow us a few years of growth. The cost of the new NVR was also a lot cheaper than I thought it was going to be from my normal supplier, even cheaper than specialist CCTV suppliers.
  8. As others have said it's great to put rules in place but for whatever reason staff and students choose to ignore them. We colour coded our laptops and trolleys in the hope the laptops would be returned to the correct trolleys, wishful thinking as it never happens. We also put rules in place that the teachers would check the devices as they are being removed/put back into the trolleys and if any damage was reported the department responsible would be charged for the damage, again wishful thinking as I've just has to replace the keyboards on 100 laptops at a cost of £45 per keyboard out of the ICT budget.
  9. Just received my goodie box, thanks very much.
  10. We don't use SSO for our MIS (Bromcom), while staff may like the idea as a department we weren't keen on it. Having the extra password just allows for a little bit more security (we have our browser set to not remember passwords) should someone walk away from their computer and leave it logged in (everyone knows they shouldn't but some staff still do).
  11. We've been using e-Timetable for a few years now and found that we either need to use a standalone device or if we are using a school device we give the user a higher level of access, similar to a local admin account, doing it this way we can install the software locally but have the files saved to the user area so they are backed up automatically.
  12. Just claimed my goodie box and had the email confirmation.
  13. We've had around 7 or 8 out of 45 where the screen has failed, always in the top left hand corner. The devices don't look damaged so we logged a warranty claim as we stated we believe the design of the device isn't sturdy enough or there must be a fault with the screens used and the supplier has agreed to swap them out. I've also found a local repair shop who can change the screen for £50 (supplied and fitted) which is cheaper than I can get the screen for so it may be worth checking with local repair shops to see what they charge.
  14. I think if I was to buy a Creality (and I may get one in the future) I would look a the newer Ender 6, https://technologyoutlet.co.uk/collections/creality3d/products/creality3d-ender-6-corexy-3d-printer for the price it's a CoreXY which means it should be more stable and allow you to print quicker and apart from adding ABL from the reviews I've read there isn't much else you need to do to it. The most important thing with 3d printers is consider the one you buy a starting point, almost every printer can be made better if you want to and as you get more interested in the subject you'll probably want to modify what ever you buy.
  15. This really depends on what you expect from the machine. If you want something you don't need to modify or tweak and is ready to print out of the box Ultimaker printers are great (our DT dept. has a clone), if you're happy to tweak it and improve it something like an Ender 3 or Ender 5 (anything from Creality really) is a good place to start. There are loads of Facebook groups and forums and YouTube videos ready to help and show you what to improve. The best bit of the kits is you get to build it, this makes troubleshooting easier as you understand the machine and when it goes wrong, which it will your have more knowledge to help. While I own 2 Tevo printers (now named Homers) I would stay away from them. While both my printers print very well the customer service is non-existent so if you need any spare parts or it arrives damaged you're out of luck.
  16. Have you thought about using something like Plex? You can create categories and it's simple to use.
  17. We get 10Gb for our storage and found a couple of years ago we maxed it out, after contacting Bromcom we realised that we hadn't been doing our basic housekeeping of the DMS files. We realised that every little report we ran added to the DMS automatically and even reports like a student timetable is ran enough times would make a big difference. It took me a few hours but I went through and deleted all of the old, basic reports ran by everyone and freed up most of the space. Since finding this out it has become a termly job that I do, it doesn't take long but it can have a big impact on your storage use. Any important reports that you need to keep a copy of can surely be downloaded as a pdf and archived somewhere, this is what we do with our progress reports etc.
  18. We use the Web Merge option to do our assessment reports and had this problem to begin with. The problem with us was while the web merge document only required a certain amount of fields our data officer was putting every piece of data into the Bromcom report, this made the processing time incredibly long and always timed out. Have you tried creating a basic Bromcom report and web merge just pulling the basic student info out such as name, tutor group etc? This may help show you if there is a problem with the report you're currently running or a Bromcom problem.
  19. While building your own nas doesn't take too long, I've used Rockstor in the past and it worked quite well I think if I needed a nas in the future I would be looking at a Synology box. They seem to be simply well made and there is a load of support out there for them.
  20. We're not allowed to use eBay at all, whether it is for purchasing or selling. The selling part hasn't been an issue as like most others on here we use our equipment until it's failing. Recently though we have been using old desktops and laptops and trading them in when we buy new equipment (HP do a trade in scheme, not sure about others) and in the last 18 months that's returned more than eBay would have.
  21. We have constant speed issues with Bromcom and when ever we raise a call with them they cannot find any issues. The couple of times they have remoted onto my machine to see the problem the speed was back to normal so again couldn't find any problems.
  22. We have now been told by an external company our LA brought in to investigate the problems that the issue is a firmware issue and the firmware on all of our AP's will be updated this weekend. The funny thing is the firmware hasn't changed in the last 2 years and we have only just started seeing these problems on this scale. While I'm hoping the firmware update resolves the issues I'm still a little sceptical.
  23. We're having the same issue at our site. We run around 60 XR630 APs and our devices can sometimes connect to the network but when they do the signal is so weak the device lose connection. Yesterday we have all of our radios go down and we don't know why. I contacted our LA who supports our network and they were able to bring the radios back online but couldn't see what caused the problem. This is on top of the random APs that have been rebooting themselves over the past few weeks. We 've never had any real issues up until recently and now our wireless network at times is unusable and know one knows why. Our LA have now raised a service call with to see if Cambium can be of any help.
  24. PM Sent - - - Updated - - - We use the latest Chrome which is better than Edge but still slow.
  25. Since the new interface we have been seeing real speed issues when loading pages. While the old interface was slow sometimes the new version just hangs with the nice, new progress bar displayed and never actually loads anything. Teachers are now so frustrated with a simple task of taking a register they are using paper registers. While I'm all for changing the system to improve it, there never seems to be any thought put into the experience of the end user, or at least that's my impression but I could be wrong.
