I would agree with Jordan, the Prusa I3 look like really good printers and when you become familiar with it you should easily be able to replace any parts that may fail over time (heater cartridges etc.).

Exam logon for students using Word processing during exams
noelmm replied to nicholab's topic in How do you do....it?
We have separate exam accounts setup (10 in total). Each account has the internet blocked and group policy applied to them so the students can use Word as this is what they are used to however features such as spell check etc. are disabled. We encourage students to save to a usb drive however if needed they can save to the local D drive and we clear out the area after each exam. I'm not sure what the best system is, I suppose it's what best fits your school as long as your are meeting the requirements for your exam board. -
I don't think you can go wrong with any Synology box, something like the DS218 for example.

What Ethernet to usb adapter are you using? I have found I can only PXE boot my surface pro 3 devices when I use an original Microsoft one. The process I follow is hold the power button for 30 seconds to ensure the device is fully powered off. Once the device is powered off I press and hold the volume down key and then press the power button until I see the surface logo, I continue to hold the volume down button for a couple more seconds after which the pro will always PXE boot. Does your PXE server have the correct drivers for your Ethernet to usb adapter? I don't use FOG so can't help with that part of it. Noel

Based on their website it would be around 10k per year before any discounts for volume licenses

Hi Everyone, Our head if ICT has come to us today and said he doesn't like using Serif Web Plus and he's used to Dreamweaver and how much would it cost to get it. As you can imagine the price is too much for us to pay. Is anyone out there using an alternative to either of these applications to allow their students to design websites? The software needs to be easy to use and affordable. We are going to need the software to be installed on 70 machines which will be used by 240 students across the school at different times (maximum of 70 students at any one time). Hopefully someone will be able to offer a suitable alternative that we could test out. Thanks Noel

Are all of your drivers up to date or are your devices using Microsoft drivers? I built some Dell Venue 11 7130 devices as windows 10 a couple of days ago and once I installed all drivers from the Dell site everything worked as normal.

Hi, You should be able to skip the key requirement during installation and then using something like the vbs tool I linked to obtain the oem key and use this for activation as the key should be linked to the motherboard in the system. I would explain to the user that this gives you the advantage of removing any bloat ware that may come installed by dell and hopefully giving him a better user experience, most users in my experience would rather have the better experience than using the original restore media as long as everything functions as it should. Failing this if the user still insists on using official Dell restore media you may have to contact Dell which may incur a charge. Hope you get it resolved. Noel

Hi, Can you not use any windows 8.1 pro installation media and then use the key oem key provided to activate it and get the drivers from the dell website? I have had to do this with several of our Lenovo machines and it always works. I use a vbscript I downloaded to get the oem key from the machine (I got the script originally from here https://www.eightforums.com/attachments/showkey-vbs.44406/)

Outlook 2016 - Disappearing attachments when forwarding email
noelmm replied to noelmm's topic in Office Software
Thanks everyone, Everything you put confirms what I thought about it being a problem with the original email format i.e. text format so hopefully this will be resolved soon when the update from MS is rolled out. Noel -
Hi everyone, I have a user that has complained of attachments disappearing from a received email when forwarding them. I have remotely accessed their machine to take a look at this and saw that upon pressing the forward button the attachments did actually disappear, as a test I sent an email to the user with an attachment (simple text file) and then forwarded this to another user and this time the attachment remained as part of the email. After looking at the original email and asking some questions I found that the emails where the attachments are disappearing are originally being sent by an iPad user using the built in mail app. I have also checked the setting within outlook that states to "Include original message text" when forwarding an email and this is selected. The user is able to save the attachments and then attach them again to the email that is being forwarded and the email will send with the attachments as normal. The user is using a windows 10 machine with outlook 2016 Does anyone know what could be causing the attachments to be removed? Thanks Noel

It sounds as though the printer needs to be calibrated. I had to spend an hour recalibrating my extrusion settings on the weekend as I changed the make of filament I was using as I was getting too much flow on some prints and then not enough. I wouldn't be put of altering the steps and other settings in the firmware however I would do some research into it first.

I would say a glass bed also. I use one with my Tevo Tarantula and it's such a quick and simple upgrade and make levelling the bed so much easier.

Our maths department are using Maths Watch. I know they use them with windows 10 tablets as well as iPads and never had any problems however as they set it all up I'm not sure how good it actually is.

We had this a few years ago when we had a new building. Our IT manager setup a Raspberry Pi with a custom script that took pictures at a set interval and he could then use these pictures to create the time lapse video. Not sure if this would suit your needs as the quality wasn't the highest but it was usable.

I really would consider as vw group car with a pd engine. I have the golf mk4 150 with a remap and get around 60mpg on the motorway and around 40mpg around town. My car has 205k miles on it and is still going, not had anything major go wrong and as long as you service it with the correct spec oil etc. the engines are bullet proof.

CPOMS for us to. Once again no setup required from our team, the Safeguarding team do all of that.

I have recently created a PowerShell script that does this for me and then assigns the users into my pre-determined groups within the script. Although getting the script to work took a little help from some of the great members we have it was an invaluable learning experience and I would recommend it if you have the time.

E-marker Proxy settings

Hi TheCrust, Hopefully you'll be able to get this resolved. In the end I just installed the software onto as many devices as needed until I had enough working laptops for our 3 staff members to use. Our Head of English who is an examiner has reported this back to the exam board however I doubt they will listen. -
We use the BIST group. We always get next day delivery free and the service is great.

As Snuffkins has said the process is straight forward and simple. I've done this a few times and it doesn't take long at all. The input/output folders can be saved anywhere and our exams officer has this in their own area so they can quickly access it and they don't need to remember where the location of the folders are.

E-marker Proxy settings
noelmm replied to chrispounds's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Hi Chris, I have been able to get the software to work on a school device although it did take some work. I used a piece of software called Fiddler 4 to see what url's the software was accessing and added these into our allow list however this still didn't fix the problem for the other school devices. I also had little luck with getting the software to work consistently on personal devices, in the end it took me around 10 devices to get it working for only 3 members of staff however one of our teachers has spoken to someone from another school where they have around 30 users attempting to use this software and not 1 will work. Hopefully the software writers will begin to listen to all of the complaints I am sure they must be receiving and fix the problems in the future. We might have to do the same as you in the future and say we don't support the software as it is not something we install. -

Hi Chris, I exchanged a few more emails yesterday with them and told them how unhappy I am with both the product and service and they agreed to raise my call to the next level, within 15 minutes I had a call from someone who said they could resolve the problems (I've sent you a pm with the person contact details), you will need the teachers examiner number when you contact them. By this time I had managed to get the software to work on a windows 10 device (personal laptop) so our teacher is just going to use this.
