That's my attitude as well Tony. I see myself as supporting teaching and learning rather than just a techie. As an ex-teacher (ducks :oops: ) I am also happy to take over a class on occasion if a teacher is struggling to explain something....... as long as I'm asked nicely!!! Apart from anything else, It's good fun!!

Email from RM this morning: Screen Resolution: The minimum workstation specification strongly recommends a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 for the best pupil experience. Please note that from 2008 the KS3 ICT software will not support 800 x 600 screen resolutions. Windows 98 Workstations: Windows 98 workstations will not be supported during the 2007 pilot. Microsoft has retired public and technical support so this is no longer a suitable platform for running the KS3 ICT test. Windows XP Service Pack 1: Workstations running Windows XP Service Pack 1 will not be supported during the 2007 pilot. On 10 October 2006 Microsoft stopped providing any incident support options or security updates for this retired service pack. Therefore it is no longer a suitable platform for running the KS3 ICT test. The upgrade to Windows SP Service Pack 2 is freely available from the Microsoft website to all licensed users of Windows XP. Please talk to your usual network support provider for instructions on how to upgrade your network to this service pack. Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 and earlier: Servers and workstations running Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 and earlier will not be supported during the 2007 pilot. Provision of technical support and security updates for Windows 2000 versions prior to Service Pack 4 ended on 30 June 2005. Therefore it is no longer a suitable platform for running the KS3 ICT test. The KS3 ICT APS server software is a 32-bit application and, as such, has not been verified as compatible with 64-bit Windows server. Please contact your usual network support provider for advice on running the 32-bit version of Windows Server 2003. We are actively verifying compatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows 2003 server, with a view to providing further information on this after January 2007. Windows Vista: Windows Vista workstations will not be supported. The KS3 ICT test software for 2007 is not compatible with Windows Vista and must not be run on Windows Vista workstations. Internet Explorer 5.5: Internet Explorer 5.5 will not be supported. In place of Netscape, Mozilla Firefox 1.5+ will now be supported on all workstation and server platforms. Internet Explorer 7: Internet Explorer 7 will be supported. Please note that Microsoft distributed several different pre-release, beta, and release candidate versions of Internet Explorer 7. These pre-release versions all have compatibility and security issues which have been fixed in the final release version of Internet Explorer 7. Consequently, the KS3 ICT test must not be run on workstations that still have pre-release, beta, or release candidate version of Internet Explorer 7 installed. At least Firefox is now supported!

......... then have a look at the time involved in setting up and supporting it, staff training, the cost of the hardware required etc ............ then compare this to the educational outcomes ......... and think ............ "Is it bloody worth it???!!!"

AFAIK the only print option is to output test code and password when session interupted. The students responses to the questions cannot be printed.

You can`t print out. Their work is uploaded to the APS automatically, and from there to the magic exam markers in the sky!!! The students are not allowed pens/paper etc either!!

Be aware of the following: 1.You need spare machines for the students in case/when a workstation crashes. They need to be able to move straight to another machine. 2. The invigilator needs a machine to run the flightdeck. (What happens if this crashes? Suggest a spare for them as well.) 3. Tech staff need to be on hand to support any technical problems but NOT invigilate. They may need to leave room to check server etc. 4. Any kids with special needs? Any that need Readers or other support. Where will they do the test? 5. The tests make significant demands on the network and server. (They now suggest it is better not to run the APS on a DC.) so other use of the network during the test (and the download of data to the server after each test is finished) should be severely restricted or better still, stopped altogether!!! 6. Admin of the test/timetabling etc will be a nightmare. They need time to log-on to network then log-on to the test interface before the 50mins starts. Allow plenty of time for this!! 7. Under the workload agreement teachers should not be required to invigilate exams.

Spent ages last year setting this up and testing. (Have to say RM support were good with any problems, and there were a few!!! ) Teaching staff then decided not to use it as they were too busy to fit it in. Will take my time this year!!!!

Significant amounts of additional dosh have gone into schools over the past couple of years specifically to support ICT. What have they spent it on??

Now up to £2320.00!!!! so, instead of adding £40.00 on the first of every month, it adds £40.00 every hour!!! so the workaround would be to set it to add as follows: Average of 30 x 24 = 720 hours per month. £40 divided by 720 = £0.055555555555555555555555555555556 so if I set it to add £0.055555555555555555555555555555556 per month it will actually add this each hour, totalling approx £40.00 per month! just checked consol again. In last 24 hours our Year 11s have had £2280.00 added to their accounts!! It is set to add £40 once a month on the 1st !! 8O Have tried full reinstall but it doesn`t help! WEIRD or what!!!???
