I`m running Moodle (plus Apache and EasyPHP) on a windows machine and the only way to get it to run is to turn off the IIS service. Maybe I`ve missed something but they don`t seem to be the best of friends!!!

It`s been suggested we get a couple of macs for the sole purpose of video editing. Any suggestions on models, software etc. I`ve no experience with macs but we are going to be involved with an outside agency in video production so we need some good gear!!!

........it`s taken me two weeks to realise that I have to use IE for the Technical Audit rather than Firefox.......previously all attempts to complete...even when pop-ups etc allowed......failed!!!! Doesn`t auger well!!! Teachers don`t seem too keen on taking part in pilot but SMT are pushing. Oh well.....

That's the catch! Yup, you need a DVI/VGA adaptor but for the price I really like it. Good response time and resolution good enough.

Hmmm.... We had some Laptops nicked and the Insurance company has agreed to replace. Query: since the original software (OS, CALs, Office etc) was licensed to us I assume we do not have to buy new licenses?.......but XP is per machine so.....???? Any ideas?

Yes, I use print quotas through PrintManager as well and it has reduced costs considerably, but my point is really a philisophical one rather than a practical one. Simply ask the question.............in what circumstances should a hard copy be more appropriate than the work just being stored (and backed up........hence my question about photocopying exercise books) on the network. 1. For display purposes. Yes I can accept that. 2. For transmission to those who don't have access to a computer. Hmmm possibly... 3. Errrrrmmmmm...........

One of our female teachers produced an online worksheet for the students about future careers. It ended with a link to connexions-direct for them to obtain careers advice. Unfortunately she missed the i out of connexions so the link took them straight through to a porn portal which wasn`t picked up by filtering. Let me see........careers advice on a porn portal??????? 8O :oops: Fortunately she tried it out before releasing it to the kids, but it was a close one!!!!!!!

DNA Smart water has been recommended to us by police so we are planning to go with it. UV markers apparently can be cleaned off using commonly available household chemicals and also wear off in time.

It appears that the MS Update can effect permissions etc. but not sure that this would only cause problems on some machines unless it`s something to do with locally stored profiles. I eventually renamed all the "My Docs" folders to "Old Work" and have a line in log-on script to create "My docs" if not already existing IF NOT EXIST N:\MYDOCUMENTS MD "N:\My Documents" this created correct permissions when they logged-on I then copied Old Work folders into their new My Documents folders. Quite a useful exercise actually as it encouraged kids to get rid of work no longer required!!!
