and think yourself lucky your not installing the old SIMS..........remember having to manually alter the autoexec.bat and config.sys files and hacking the registry for every workstation.....remembering which IDs had been used already etc........!!!! Sims.net is a P.O.P. in comparison!!

If you go to the KS3 support site there is a page of instructions on altering IP address ranges. I had to do and it`s straightforward enough. You`ll find the appropriate info under the knowledge base article "How will changing my network's IP range affect my KS3 ICT testing software".

I think this is just housekeeping........ie tidying up the database.

Is STP turned on on large switches and not on smaller ones? If so then CyberNerd is spot on. You have something plugged into the network that is causing this problem..........or..... the infamous patch lead plugged into two outlets!! ethereal will help isolate this.

It sits in the DPS config file on the server. (Something like \\servername\APSinst\Admin Point System\DPS Config) Just edit it in notepad and fill in the details you require.

Two domains with a trust.....ie School and Admin. I have thought of reducing to one domain but there are benefits to existing set-up. We still have a few odd W95 machines in classrooms which are essentially just used to run Office Apps etc. The log-on screen in W95 allows you to overtype the domain name in the drop down box. Not really a problem as these will be replaced soon

Yes, I set it up (that was fun.......NOT) and showed the ICT teacher what was involved. He wasn`t a happy bunny!!! He had words with the Head who (quite rightly in my opinion) backed him up when he said he didn`t want to waste precious curriculum time training kids to use it. So.......we have it and a few kids will probably "have a go" at the practice test but I doubt they will do it for real this year!
