Claim to fame: I was there when they were filming the battle scenes for Highlander. A friend and I had just finished a climb on Buchaille Etive Mor. As we pulled over the top we noticed some smoke drifting up from the top end of Glen Etive and looking down we saw loads of hairy-arsed highlanders battering each other!!! It was surreal to say the least. Got even more surreal when we called into the Kings House for a few pints. It was full of `em, complete with blood and wounds!!!! Sean wasn`t there though, he`d completed his filming there a few weeks earlier.

So where were you all on Saturday???

Ha Bat! I know exactly how you feel. I`m a Quaker (Religious Society of Friends ..... not the game!!!!) and everyone seems to expect me to dress like the man on the Quaker Oats box. They seem disappointed that I look vaguely normal (if you half-close your eyes!). NB Quaker Oats have no connection with Quakers. It was a marketing ploy to play on the reputation we have for truthfulness and fair trading.

Nah ..... it wasn`t the drink!! I successfully joined a new domain, well rejoined actually. I had previously been a member of this domain for many years but the previous domain controller decided to bsod me everytime I logged on and I then discovered she had quite an extensive wan. Accordingly I was demoted to a member server who`s only role is to pay for the four workstations. However, as of Saturday I have I new DC who isn`t Open Source and is much more stable. She too has four workstations so we now have 2 balanced DCs, 8 workstations and a decent Server Room.

PAT = PORTABLE Appliance Testing !!!!! I`ve got the piece of paper (cuz I`ve done the "course" !! :? ) Any piece of electrical equipment which is likely to be damaged by pushing an unregulated current through it should NOT be tested by using a PAT machine!!! Furthermore, Network Switches are not portable so do NOT require testing. It is suggested that such equipment is given a regular visual check and a record kept of such checks. I check ours formally once a year, but obviously informally everytime I am in the relevant cabinet. You can download a really useful PDF from the HSE about this. It is called "Maintaining portable electrical equipment in offices and other low-risk environments." HSE considers schools to be low-risk environments. (Yes I know that may seem ridiculous, but is actually based on accident statistics and research) It is the first download here: Linky The key thing is that you do not have to be a fully qualified electrician to carry out these tests, but I would strongly suggest you do the course. It`s a very simple one day affair. I did mine with First Stop Safety who run courses all over the country. It didn`t cost very much (about £100 ) and was actually quite thorough. We had previously been paying a contractor over a thousand pounds each year to do this when it only takes me a couple of days during the summer holidays. Money much better spent on other things!!

Beware.... I`ve got a Mitsubishi air-con sitting on the wall in my cupboard/server room. Works brilliantly.... but..... when the weather is hot I get a blast of freezing cold air directed directly at my neck!!! I get strange looks from people who see me sitting there with a coat on (and occasionally a hat as I`m becoming rather follically challenged) when the sun is cracking the flags outside. 8O When I complained about this recently it was suggested I should have it moved below the desk where it would cool different parts of my anatomy (followed by various comments about having 4 children already and getting married again this Saturday!!!). Bloody comedians!!! :twisted:

W2003 I`ve a strange file in a users area which I`m unable to delete. File x, contains File y, contains File z. File z, contains File x, contains File y, contains File z, contains File x etc. This appears to go on indefinitely! (gave up drilling down after a while). Unable to delete (directory not empty). Any ideas?

1. There is a magic machine called a photocopier!!! Wondrous technology. 2. Create the questionnaire online and have it filled in online! Why have computers and not use them? Otherwise they might as well write questionnaires by hand and photocopy!

Anyone else using this across a network? It runs fine on 2K but not on XP. Have tried the obvious (Firewall off etc) but to no avail. (Think it may be a Flash issue :< as usual!!) Wish these companies would write and test their software properly rather than keep selling years after OSs and plug-ins have developed to the point were they no longer work. If another company we have handed cash to tells me I need to install an older version of Flash/Quicktime/Media Player etc, before their software will work, and they have no intention of rewriting it to take account of developments ................ I will do someone a mischief!!!!

FMS is a separate package from Sims.net which integrates with SIMS. Who loaded it on originally? If not yourselves then you won`t have the CD so will need to get in touch with Capita support for a copy.
