Hi - i'm no expert with moodle, but have just set up our new moodle box. We run two boxes - a MYSQL box (peeves!, after Harry Potter) and an Apache box (hogwarts!) which run our moodle Good - if it is your DC I would strongly not reccomend (although I know some people that do!) install IIS and run websites off their DC. I would definetly use the old box - why not format the old linux box so you have a clean install to run from? We use CentOS here - download the ISO and burn it to a disk! Then just wipe it, Cent has an easy interface if I remember. Alternatively, use Ubuntu - which has a nice GUI for installation. Not a problem what so ever. You'll need to install Apache and MYSQL on that box though, aswell as PHP and all the modules. This is called a "LAMP" setup ... more info here....LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) HOWTO: Installing MySQL and Apache with PHP support on Linux This should give you easy advice how to do it but if you get stuck obviously post here as there are a lot more people on here (probably more experienced with linux hackery than me!) who could help you ... or pm me. In theory ... yes, but IIS would still be serving your pages - which would still put the power on the 2008 server. What specs are you running at? You would need to open ports 80 for sure to this new box. I'd add a DHCP reservation on your 2008 box assuming your running DHCP off this If it was me - set it up on the linux box. It's great fun and you'll learn lots too - I did! Are you wanting to integrate SIMS timetables with this or Active directory? There are loads of tutorials out there with intergrating Moodle with AD (LDAP) Let me know if I could be any more help, sorry if none of this makes sense! Rich

Hi djgreek, What is your current setup at the moment? Is it just one server completley, are files served from somewhere else (another file server, a san?). I would definetly add more "domain controllers" to your network, for a start..

Working from Home too ... waiting for stuff to come back online because the boss is fixing Xenserver, so am writing a few scripts for our domain before people start using it tommorow!

We use a product called WebXchange from Redstone (WebXchange.Net - About webXchange) for the transfer into SIMS Exams Organiser. But like some of you, we have to be "around" just in case something happens, but the examinations secretary does all that .. :-)

I totally agree -check with your service provider. What I always try and tell people is unlimited never means unlimited - my dad was just about to sign up to a contract with Three with "unlimited internet" - only to turn out they gave him 1gb a month!

Nope - works on 2k8 and 2k8 r2 aswell :-). Just used it to add an employee ID to all our new users from SIMS.

Look forward to running this in a production environment, had the beta off technet for ages but never used it, but due to moving to a fully Exchange 2k7 setup over the next few days (staff and students ... not just staff like before) it may be worth taking a look for future upgrades. I definetly would keep it off the main network though ...

The only limit I think of using SQL Express is that it can't do scheduled backups, but i'm sure that can be replicated some way else! In fact I know a local school that runs several apps using SQL Express!

Hi all, Have searched the forums but can't seem to find anything! I'm currently planning our Exchange 07 Rollout (submitting it to my boss!). How many of you use front and back end servers, and how have you configured this? I would like to use a front end server for external OWA with Forms Based Authentication, and two other backend servers for single sign on OWA inside the college. Any ideas? or do I need to go int omore? Ta, Richard

I agree too. It is not easy to get a job! I did the same, got a job 6 months after leaving high school part time while doing my a levels. Stuck to doing both, looking forward to recieiving my results and am now Assistant ICT Network Manager at a school. Good luck and let us know how it goes

Well we would of liked to go to a standard 2k8 domain really without any 2k3 boxes at all as it is the future. Yeah we'll be moving everything over.

Hi all, We are currently in the middle of setting up a brand new network here and one of the things that we need to carry over is Successmaker. Naturally, we want to use Server 2k8 - but, after sending a fax to RM last night, they say that only 2k3 is supported. Are any of you using Successmaker on 2k8, how do you find it (if it works!) or do you know of any other alternatives as we really do not want to go down the route of installng a 2k3 vm unless we really have to..
