    Hi, some students are reporting that office apps such as word etc are not always showing up in the start menu. Logging off resolves it temporarily, but I had half a class with this issue the other day. We are running Windows 10 build 1909 with roaming profiles. Not all students are experiencing this and I haven’t been made aware of any staff that have either. Any advice greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance

    Sadly all of the codes were in the 200 range. There was a wss://www.drfrostmaths.com/ws/script2 URL that said pending, but the IT Manager informed me that Sophos do not support wss addresses! The school has a Sophos WS1100 web appliance, which seems to block just about everything! Not sure what else can be done if wss addresses are not supported on the Sophos web appliance? The site works perfectly apart from this “Live Game”?? on the DFM site which crashes after a few seconds...

    Hi, Do any of your Maths departments use Dr Frost Maths? The Live Game crashes for staff after approx 10-15 seconds. It sits on the page where it says “Awaiting People to Join” for approx 10-15 seconds then it crashes stating that there has been an error. I have contacted Dr Frost Maths support who sent a couple of URLs to unblock, but the site is not being blocked whatsoever by the Sophos Web appliance. I have tried different browsers and it does not crash outside of the school network, but I have asked the Network manager to check the logs in Sophos and it’s not showing anything for this site apparently. Just wondered if anyone else is experiencing any issues with the “Live Game” dropping out? Just not sure what else to try as the site is not blocked in any way. Thanks

    Thanks. Finance and site services still can't get past the captchas and therefore login to ebay. Anyone know if there is a way of bypassing captchas or another url for ebay (clutching at straws now)? I am guessing not

    Hi Finance and the site manager cannot login to ebay any longer. When they attempt to login to ebay they enter their login credentials and are then presented with the usual capture. After ticking the stupid capture box and checking all the relevant capture photo's ebay just loops back to ticking the capture box again. We use Sophos web filtering and ebay has always been available for staff, but blocked for students. We have tried different browsers such as chrome but no luck. We are running windows 7 (yes, still on 7!) and therefore IE11 and the latest version of chrome. Just wondered if anyone else has seen this? Thanks in advance.

    Thanks bushby, I haven't heard of Accessit before, so will have a look their website. You mentioned that it's miles better, so I wondered if you are referring to Capita reading cloud or Librasoft? The main issues the librarian has had with reading cloud is that is horrendously slow at times. The librarian would just love something that works and is reasonably quick as Eclipse hosted has caused huge problems when they have very large amounts of book returns for example.

    Thanks steveg, that sounds good. They have been through hell in the Library, with the hosted version of Eclipse in terms of how slow it is and how unreliable it has been. Not to mention the support staff at Capita blaming our network!

    Hi, The librarian cannot take anymore pain with regards to the horrendously slow, unreliable and expensive Cloud based Capita Eclipse software. The librarian wants to move to a different provider and particularly likes the look of Oliver, but the data migration costs are far too high for us. The only other software that the librarian is interested in is Libresoft, so I was wondering if any of you are using Libresoft, and if so, how fast and reliable is it please? The librarian mentioned that they can have a demo, but demo's don't always show the full picture, so any experiences, good or bad with Libresoft would be very helpful. Also, is the support very good from Libresoft as it's been awful from Capita! They basically blame the schools internet connection speeds or network for their poor product! Yet we have no issues with any other cloud based software! Thanks in advance.

    Hi I have been asked to deploy Python 3.7.4 by the head of Computer Science. After visiting the Python.org website it appears that there are no MSI installers available for download for recent versions of Python. I wondered if anyone has a Python 3.7.4 MSI that I could borrow please We are currently running version 3.3.2 Unfortunately we don't have SCCM or any third party tools to wrap the EXE. Thanks

    Thanks I wasn't aware that Smoothwall doesn't do out of the box. Crikey, I have heard figures of £6000 costs mentioned for Smoothwall, so that's surprising! I don't think that the NM would agree to G Suite being allowed if it means that Gmail is opened up. Can G Suite be unblocked but not Gmail?

    Thanks for the quick response. We don't have G Suite and everything is heavily filtered. All third party web mail is blocked so on that note would unblocking the Google stuff allow Gmail? I am guessing so, which would not be ok with the NM. Is G Suite easy to setup and can it be handed over completely for the teaching staff to manage please?

    Hi Does anyone know know of a way of filtering YouTube as SLT have asked that it be unblocked. I have been informed that Smoothwall can filter videos but I have heard that Smotthwall is expensive. There is no budget to do anything at the moment so if there are any free ways to filter/restrict YouTube that would be good. Thanks

    No errors just missing documents or missing desktop shortcuts. Removing the network profile seems to fix it guys so thanks for the suggestions.

    I delete the local profile via advanced system settings, then select the user profile from the list. The local profile is then removed but after a reboot the problem still exists.

    Thanks siuko, I will find out if offline caching of the shares is turned off. Thanks for the batch file, I will pass it on to the NM. Why dont NMs give techs more user rights and permissions??

    Thanks ITGURU, interesting to hear that roaming profiles do work with Windows 10. What server OS are you using?

    Thanks witch, we don't run a script that deletes profiles on log off. Does your script work ok with server 2008r2/Windows 7 please? If so,would it be possible to send me a copy of the script please?

    Thanks 3s-gtech, whenever I ask a student who has no files showing in their documents folder to login to a different machine, their documents are always there. Do you know what could be causing that kind of behaviour? I will have a look at the technet link as the profile situation seems to be getting worse. One thing for sure is that deleting the local profile never resolves the issue! Don't have much access so I can't check DNS errors or replication issues etc.
