  1. Thanks Boredguy, I checked the language setting in Edge and set it to English (United Kingdom) when this first occurred. The spell check still doesn’t work. I asked the member of staff who the spell check has stopped working for recently (2 staff now) and she says it does work from home! The first affected member of staff says it doesn’t work at home! I might ask for a screenshot from the user who says that is doesn’t work from home... Getting fed up with this as I don’t know what else to check!
  2. Any developments on this one round2it?
  3. Me too, don’t know what else I can try... I had the same from Microsoft as they just recommended resetting browsers and checking the Microsoft editor settings which I had already done. Didn’t think this was a profile issue but I deleted the users profiles anyway. It’s just odd that it’s only affecting two staff and on a domain everything is the same! It’s so frustrating as it sounds minor but it’s probably going to start affecting more staff as time goes by!!!
  4. Totally agree round2it, I think Windows 10 and O365 will be the end of me too!! Getting so tired of all the ‘weird issues’ with Windows 10 and Office 365. Don’t know what else I can try as it can’t be the filtering or it would affect everyone.... This must be a bug in the affected teachers O365 account???
  5. That’s fine haci. Back to the drawing board!
  6. Thanks haci. If you find anything in your emails please can you let me know. This is just weird as it’s not affecting all staff.
  7. Thanks Danthecreator. The proofing language is set to English (United Kingdom). Everything under corrections and refinements is enabled.I have tried clicking on reset to default, but that leaves all of the Microsoft editor settings as enabled.
  8. Have you had any progress on this please? I have another member of staff that the spell check has stopped worked for all of a sudden. I have tried the usual, deleted profile, reset Edge and Chrome. Checked if spell check in Windows 10 is turned off... I don’t know what else I can try as if it were a filtering issue all of the teachers would be affected.... If anyone could offer any suggestions that would be very welcome as this is driving me nuts!!
  9. Thanks for the advice! As it appears to be a damaged head and not just the bad USB connection, I think that I will pass on this one! The teacher had called a data recovery company but said that they were too expensive and she thought that I could do it for a bottle of wine.........
  10. Thanks for the advice. Wish it was an easy fix but as it sounds like internal damage to the head, it’s not something that I can fix. It doesn’t always show up in disk management, and the head is making some strange sounds.
  11. Anyone hon here experienced in repairing drives. I will give more than a bottle of wine like I normally receive!
  12. Thanks for the advice, I have previously had exactly the same experience where I had to hold a USB sick in certain position to copy the data. I have repaired loads of teachers personal laptops over the years from replacing screens to removing nasty viruses where it wouldn’t even boot!! As they rarely seem to bother with AV in my experience!! Then after several hours of personal time lost, that I can never get back, they give me a bottle of wine!!!!!! I will try and get another board, but the head sounds completely buggered! Will I destroy all chance of recovering the data if I open the case on the drive to reveal the platters? Just don’t want to lose any chance of getting the data back by opening the inner case.
  13. Yes, that would make them re-think just how precious that data is to them... I have not met many teachers who ever make a backup of anything! Been used so much over the years I might just start saying I don’t do private work. I have enough wine to open a wine merchants anyway!!
  14. Sorry to hear that you are suffering as well! I am sick of all of the peculiar “issues” that I have had to deal with since O365 and Windows 10 appeared!!!! Bring back 7 and Office 2010!!
  15. Yes, it is her personal drive. The thing that really drives me nuts at all schools that I have worked, is after fixing their laptop etc that they don’t speak the next time they see me in the corridor!! Never have been able to understand why some are like that. It’s as though once you have served your purpose you don’t exist. Maybe it’s just me and the schools where I have worked... Never had much luck taking drives apart, so not sure if it’s even advisable. I think the head is stuck but the connection where the USB cable connects is buggered too!!
  16. Thanks agreed. All the teachers have given me over the years is a bottle of wine for IT repairs!! Imagine if they offered a plumber a bottle of wine for fixing a leaking pipe!
  17. Hi, One of the teaching staff dropped her Seagate portable hard drive! It’s not being displayed in windows explorer and only shows up occasionally in disk management! When it does show up in disk management it shows as “unassigned”. I have tried running the Seagate data recovery software, but the external drive isn’t displayed at all when I run data recovery software. When the drive does fire up it sounds like a tiny person is inside jumping on a trampoline! I don’t have a clean room so can’t take the drive apart, but it sounds to me like the read-write head is stuck! The teacher has no backups...and there is years of “critical” data on the drive!! Anyone know of a “trustworthy” data recovery company that doesn’t charge hundreds to repair drives? Thanks in advance!
  18. It weirdly happens in Edge or Chrome. No other users have reported the same issue. Which doesn’t mean that no one else has been affected! Reset browsers, deleted local profile. Not sure what else to do...
  19. I tried resetting Edge but sadly no change. Tried deleting the local profile. No change. The teacher says that it is the same at home on a personal device...,
  20. It’s bewildering why MS would not include such a heavily used feature???
  21. I completely agree. It’s used heavily in all the schools that I have worked for.
  22. Hi, Does anyone know if mail merge is available in the ‘online’ version of Office 365, as a member of staff can’t find it and I can’t see it either? Thanks in advance.
  23. Hi, Just one teacher is getting the attached error occasionally which closes SIMS. This has only started occurring since the 7.200 update! Anyone have any idea what might be causing this intermittent error Thanks
