  1. Thank you all for your advice and suggestions. I am the only technician in a large secondary school, so it's taken me days to even check Edugeek, as I am so busy! I think that I am just going to roll out windows 11 and hope that it's not as annoying as windows 10! I really hope that the profile sizes are not as huge with windows 11, as I have seen massive profile sizes with windows 10, that I never experienced with windows 7! 10 seems to stuff absolutely everything into the profile!
  2. Thanks, I am the only tech and am so snowed under that I haven't had time to check the event log yet. I never seem to find anything useful in the event logs, but that might just be me! I have found that nothing apart from re-imaging seems to get the start menu working again. What a piece of work Windows 10 is!! We have had quite a few weird issues with it!
  3. Thanks for the reply Olliedawg. My initial feeling was that it's a profile issue, but it seems to be occurring more regularly. I am deleting their local profiles, but am not sure why it's recently started happening. We never saw this until fairly recently. We don't use Applocker.
  4. Thanks for replying. The machines were all imaged with a couple of years ago with a new install of windows. We haven't seen this issue until the last few weeks. I wondered if it's a windows update as we don't use WSUS any longer.
  5. Hi, We are seeing more and more machines where the windows 10 start menu doesn't work. When students click on the start menu nothing happens. It's only affecting the odd random machine at the moment. When we login with the admin account the start menu works just fine. We have only started seeing this in the last couple of weeks, so I wondered if anyone else has experienced this recently? Thanks in advance.
  6. Thanks, I will get a list of all processes and compare with another machine. I will give Autoruns a try as I have never used that previously.
  7. That’s interesting that you can suspend normal win32 processes using resmon.exe. He doesn’t have permissions to access resmon.exe. Only admins can access that. It’s very odd, as no other member of staff is experiencing ‘suspended’ processes...I would love to know why these apps are getting suspended! This is occurring on desktops only as we only use desktops in classrooms and offices. He can’t install anything as staff do not have permission to install software. This is driving me nuts!!
  8. Edge, Chrome, SIMS, Notepad ++ are showing as “suspended” in windows task manager for the user. He has stated that the programs become unresponsive when they become suspended and can take up to 15 minutes to start working again!!
  9. Your right, these applications shouldn’t be getting suspended. It never occurs for me and therefore I can’t replicate it at all. As you mentioned the last resort is to reimagine both machines but it just seems a bit extreme. It’s odd that only this user is affected!
  10. Thanks everyone for your advice! We ditched roaming profiles when we migrated to windows 10. They were causing havoc with all sorts of areas including shortcuts going missing from the start menu! That’s interesting regarding the mapped drive issue, although only the affected user seems to be experiencing this “suspended” application issue. We have new HP G7’s in all classrooms, so decent spec machines and it only “appears” to be an issue for the head of computing. He has the same mapped drives as everyone else. We have folder redirection but no issues with any other staff. Both machines that the affected user is experiencing this on are decent spec and have new SSD drives as they are new machines. Only 8GB memory but these machines seem pretty fast for what they are used for. I can check the home folder again.
  11. Thanks for your suggestions. Several applications appear to be getting suspended and apart from Edge, the others are 3rd part apps like Notepad ++. No other members of staff have reported this and I have never seen this issue and have an older lower spec machine than the head of computing! He has a new HP ProDesk 400 G7 with 8GB of RAM, just like all the classrooms have. I have checked the home folder and permissions and everything seems fine. We use Sophos AV across the school but that is up to date just like all the other classrooms. It’s not just one machine as the head of computing is experiencing this issue on another computer which is good spec.He is only running a browser and SIMS when this occurs. I will check everything that you have all suggested! Thanks!
  12. Hi, Only one member of staff keeps reporting that various applications, such as SIMS, Notepad ++ often become suspended and are then unresponsive. Edge and Chrome are also becoming suspended, which is causing delays of 10 minutes or so before the apps start functioning correctly apparently! I have uninstalled the apps and have deleted the local profile but that has made no difference. I have checked the logs, but nothing obvious is occurring. It’s just the head of Computing that appears to be experiencing “suspended” programs as no other teachers have reported this. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this with 3rd party application and windows 10 Education? Thanks in advance!
  13. Never seen this before and when I log in with the admin account, no 3rd party apps seem to become suspended?? I haven’t checked the event log, but will when I get some spare time.
  14. Thanks for responding. No windows hasn’t been updated recently...
  15. I don’t suppose anyone has come across third party apps being suspended in windows 10, which then seems to take at least a minute for the app to respond? Thanks in advance.
  16. Interestingly when I login with the admin account Chrome and Notepad don’t appear to suspend...
  17. Hi A member of staff has reported as of yesterday, Chrome and Notepad++ are suspended in task manager. No green leaf icon being displayed like when services are suspended by the UWP process group. No new software has been installed and nothing else has changed. The member of staff says that it takes a long time during a lesson, for Chrome and Notepad ++ to start responding. He is having to reboot which takes a while. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this?
  18. It rarely even picks the paper up, then just displays a paper jam message. Might try taking it apart as it can’t get much worse as you correctly mentioned.
  19. Thanks, will give that a try. I am not trained or experienced in taking printers apart, so I don’t feel comfortable doing that really. Although that feels like the next step!!
  20. Thanks to everyone. The printer jams from tray 1 and 2 and the manual feed tray. All trays are numbered so no confusion as to which tray is which. Tried new (good quality)paper which is dry and not cold. In summary the printer jams in every available tray, including the manual feed tray that you have to pull a flap down to feed paper into. Sadly we don’t have any more of this model printer in school to swap parts... I can hear the e-waste recycling place in the sky calling this printers name!!
  21. The paper trays (1&2) spring up nicely. The paper tray guide at the front of the tray is in tact and not creased. I filled the trays full of paper but paper is still not getting picked up. I rubbed some isopropyl alcohol on the pickup rollers but that made no difference. I have opened every door and removed all trays, toner front and rear, but I cannot see any rogue paper! I used a torch and have hoovered the areas that I can access, but it still doesn’t pickup paper and just shows a jam when there is no jam.
  22. Thanks everyone, I will check everything that you all mentioned. I will try some isopropyl alcohol on the rubber pick up rollers. Another thing that I noticed was that the printer sounds really noisy/rough when it’s trying to pick up the paper. Apparently there was a jam before I was called and the teacher cleared the jam and it hasn’t worked properly since!! I cannot find the slightest piece of torn paper in the printer anywhere, but will look again when I can get in the room.
  23. Hi, We have a HP Laserjet 2430 that keeps jamming in tray 1 and 2. I have removed both trays and checked for any paper inside the printer but there doesn’t seem to be any. I have checked the paper guides in the trays and they are set correctly. I checked the event logs via the web interface and all that is showing is “Paper Feed 1, Paper late jam”. I looked at the pickup rollers and they do not seem too worn. I tried printing from the printers control panel and the jam still occurs on both trays. The printer is not actually jamming as the paper is not even getting picked up. I know that it sounds like worn pickup rollers, but I have seen more worn rollers picking up paper. I have opened every door and have removed the toner but I cannot see any bits of paper inside. Has anyone else had this before. Thanks!
