  1. I would not do it at all. Like someone or not, you start doing "personal" work for them, you go from friend to IT fixer. Even my family get a snarl if they bother we with computer stuff too much as you need to balance your work life with other things too. I used to go home from work, do a couple of machine rebuilds for friends and family then it got to me bringing home staff home computers and laptops with no guarantee they would pay anything. It would be computers all day at work and then all night at home. Yes i do love computers and spend my own time messing with them at home but that is usually little projects or certification studies and not simple reinstalling XP for someone for the 20th time. Some do not even bother to say thanks, just an email to drop it off in their office or something. Yeah you may get a box of chocolates from someone but sometimes you may have spent 3-4 hours installing the OS, apps, restoring work from backup and then updating it all. Box of chocs be damned!! £30-40 an hour at least. There are problems though with asking for cash as brought up in the past as you have to declare this to your employer in many cases. When you tell someone you will end up spending 3 hours or so on their laptop and want £90 quid they treat you like you just tried to kidnap their child. Laptop keyboard would take me less than a minute to do but i still would say no. Got to help the economy and keep those PC World - IT Guys in business as they really do need the practice.
  2. Was looking at some old photographs of my town the other day when they still used horse and carts and there was perhaps only one vehicle in any of the photos. Looked so spacious and alien, roads i have travelled all my life but completely different because of an absence of vehicles. Lets blow them all up. We can build some underground motorways up and down the country and leave the above ground for beauty instead.
  3. Police were right to blow it up. If i had parked there and ran off before such an event i would also understand why they had done it. Maybe i would not be happy but i would understand. I also find that when you are personally involved with something like this you kind of let your emotions take over. Best not to cloud things by imagining your own car flying through the sky in pieces with the police pressing the detonate button. Try instead to imagine yourself pressing the button and blowing up a police car. Now you all agree it was a good idea!!
  4. Was quite good, although could have been much better. Bit like the movie Space that turns into a silly murder mayhem race to survive type plot after starting really well. Too few space type films out there though so not complaining too much.
  5. It is so ordinary and yet not. I guess that is what makes it so special. I just happened to watch an episode one day and was hooked. Watch the rest of the shows before you watch the new ones though so you don't miss out. Must be on iPlayer or Youtube somewhere. Smithy and Bryn are the best. Love the scene where they are both doin excercises in Bryns bedroom gym.
  6. One of the best shows on tv, along with the inbetweeners.
  7. Did you ever see the folder yourself? Maybe the user forgot to tell you the folder was on the memory stick or something.... I guess you have checked the user type areas documents and settings, username blabla? Maybe different on Vista i can't recall. Maybe i have just been no help at all Did try tho!
  8. The DT department made wooden covers for our machines in the past but sadly even they were smashed through. You could just employ a tactic that others have mentioned to charge the department that were in there prior to the incident being reported. So if a teacher enters a room and finds a mouse missing or broken then they report it to you and the department before them is charged. If they do not bother to report it, they might get charged if the person after them reports it to you. Somewhere along the line someone will pay. Saves you trying to become the detective. You can highlight their lack of reporting when they complain it was not them. If the teacher reports it during their own lesson as happening then even better the student can be charged. Would pass that to the head of year or someone similar to chase up payment though rather than yourself. Best to make sure your boss is happy with the above policy before you start and publicize the rules a while before going into effect.
  9. We used to use an unmanaged solution. Netgear WG302 i think the access points were. You could set up a WPA system pretty easy and if it is small there should be little work to do really after its up and running. Once it gets bigger is when the problems start. I bet that it will grow and grow as more people want to use it and then you will be cursing your luck. I would get something down from your boss saying that should it get above x amount of users then a managed solution will be required due to the overheads required to try and manage a growing system. Just to try and build in some leverage for when you really get annoyed with it and they refuse to pay. There is a good guide Ashok posted a while ago on here on how to set up a RADIUS wireless system using certificates etc.. I followed it through and got it working briefly before we switched to a managed system. If you think WPA is secure enough though you could just set that up and you should be fine.
  10. Tell us how much they cost and how much you have to spend. I am sure there are loads of peeps on here who could give you some good specs with a price range in mind.
  11. That site is horrible to view the jobs on. Always have to scroll down the page trying to pick out the job titles from the massive list. Made some comments on the survey that popped up but still bad
  12. Very interesting not heard of this, thanks.
  13. Is it local or networked? Are the computers that they are using local or networked? Could you just ensure that the student logins do not have access to this printer? Or am i totally getting this wrong somehow?
  14. Was told Parent Pay, Paypal and Worldpay would be best. Some of these i believe because they do not require the parents to have a credit card to use them.
  15. Haha made me laugh out loud. It's like the shirts you see worn on old shows like Magnum. To be fair it probably does not look bad without the scary makeup to go with it.
  16. The shirt is the scariest bit.
  17. My school has some dirty floors that need doing, have mop, need some of you cleaners in fast! Glad you all enjoy cleaning so much. Wish i had time to spend hours cleaning projectors and boards... lol Barely get 15 minutes to get a security clamp and projector off the ceiling and a bulb replaced. I kind of resent having to clean projectors and whiteboards. Guess that is why i do not do it. But dang! some of them classroom boards are faded and hard to use. Sucks to be a teacher i guess lol. BTW i am at least 50% joking here.
  18. My GF sings professionally at weekends so i either go along with her to help out or am cocooned up at the moment studying for more certs. Can't go out and do anything with cash as we are saving up for a house at the moment. 20k deposit so far and still going.
  19. Loved the airport level. I was in such a rush to get the kills i was being shot in the back by the terrorists. I even started hunting people in the little shop areas. Everything just rushes you through though so you can not savour it all. I did not see the complaints about Hitman and one of my favourite levels where you are at some Mardi Gras thing in the streets and there are gazillions more people to kill than the level in MW2. I used to run out of bullets and have to hunt additional weapons to try to kill everyone. Never managed it though cos i think they respawned real fast. Great fun though. Reminded me of the old game Smash TV, kill kill killllllllllllllllllllll!!!!! Don't play games if you don't like killing things on screen. Even in pacman its kill or be killed with the ghosties sometimes.
  20. Yeah, just had some child protection training after like 6-7 years and they did state that you should never transport students in your own car, give out personal numbers and email etc.. I would stick to a mini bus and we were even told that if you do that you need to make sure others know where you are and it is all recorded. We had a similar request about the insurance thing as someone wanted to claim on the school insurance for an accident or something. Now we have been told we need to insure our cars for business if we use it for courses and stuff. Was told by about 5 ppl in the admin office that it should cost nothing. Ruined my attempted moan session really so i moaned at the tech instead when i got back to my office.
  21. So what is going to happen to the Network Managers at the middle schools? Do they apply to be technicians at the upper schools or do the jobs at the upper schools get re advertised?
  22. Theme hospital the 2d old version not the newer 3d rubbish one. Great little game where you design the rooms and machines and solve the patients problems by hiring more doctors and cleaners and nurses etc..
  23. I wonder what happens to the middle school techs and network managers. Do they lose their jobs or can they apply at upper schools or lower schools? Anyone know?
  24. "How to make lies and irritate people" "plastic surgery and me" "best ways to hide an eating disorder" All available from mail order.
  25. Fallout 3 is a good engrossing game. Not just a shooter. Or something completely different, sword of the stars.
