  1. Hey, Been having an issue with Snip & Sketch for a while now where if I try to save anything (We're running 1809 across the site, not tried 1909 yet..) it will just come up with an error "Something went wrong". According to the settings app, it has permission to the Pictures folder (common fix from Googling). This is happening for staff with both folder redirection as well as a admin account which has local folders. Has anyone else experienced this with snip and sketch? Staff can always paste the screenshot into paint/word but... I'd prefer if it worked natively like Snipping Tool.
  2. In SOLUS3 Deployment UI > Environment > Configure Workstations > SIMS Installation Set to "Specify Different Location" and then SIMS Installation Path of "C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net" (default). We have this set so that on any machine, it will always be in Program Files so no start menu shortcuts are messed up.
  3. Use the free version of PDQ Deploy. If the software you're installing is a multi-step process, create a batch file that does it all and then deploy that using PDQ Deploy.
  4. Are the certificates all correct and DNS all good? e.g. Certificate is for rdsgw.school.org and you're connecting via https://rdsgw.school.org/rdweb/webclient/index.html Pretty sure I ran into that issue and it was because local DNS is school.local, not school.org but I was using a wildcard *.school.org certificate. I added a CNAME for rdsgw.school.org to rdsgw.school.local and this fixed things for me.
  5. We host our application forms as editable PDFs. They're actual forms though so the fields can be filled in, saved and then emailed across to our recruitment address or printed and posted in. I actually converted the form to a PDF as bad application forms annoy me...
  6. We use Civica for our cashless catering (previously NRS Ltd), believe it also integrates with Cunninghams cashless catering as well. It cost about £100 one-off for Civica to install the Truste Web Service which EduLink One then links into to display what students have purchased and their balance to both students and parents. They can't top up their balance using EduLink One (yet?). It has definitely cut down queue times at the reval units, which students would use to just check their balance and not necessarily top up with. Helps parents monitor what their child is eating in one place, instead of having to go into the SCOPay app separately, has definitely made a positive difference.
  7. We've been using EduLink One for over a year now and have had absolutely no problems, and it really is as good as it sounds. When we signed up, we managed to get a free trial for a period and we tested it out with staff and some parent comments. Students love the fact they can login and see achievement/behaviour/catering balance. Parents find it really simple and intuitive to use. They're working on payments as a priority now I believe, think Google Classroom integration has been requested a fair bit too (that's what we want!)
  8. Wasn't sure what forum was best for this, but I've just found out that Papercut have made mobility print a free and standalone product, this is an alternative to Google Cloud Print and makes printing from Chromebooks or BYOD devices quite simple. Now... I've had plenty of issues with Google Cloud Print so I'm going to crack on and get testing with this as a replacement, used Papercut in a previous school and had no issues with mobility print so thought I'd share the news as it might help a few of you!
  9. By changing the folder redirection for Documents from %HOMESHARE%%HOMEPATH% to %HOMESHARE%%HOMEPATH%Documents This then makes a subdirectory for Documents within their home directory and the desktop.ini file isn't made in the root, so the folder name is displayed correctly in the full directory. Hope that makes sense...
  10. One thing I've always questioned (seen it in multiple schools now) is why the individual shares? Why not just have it as \\domain\students\2019\%USERNAME% for the homedirectory for all year 7's? Only one share for the root "Students" folder and NTFS permissions lock down the other folders so they can only see what they have access to (aka their own drive) For folder redirection, we redirect all the individual subfolders like follows; Documents: %HOMESHARE%%HOMEPATH%Documents Music: %HOMESHARE%%HOMEPATH%My Music Downloads: %HOMESHARE%%HOMEPATH%Downloads etc. We don't have any issue then with Desktop.ini files then as deleting them/denying them (using FSRM) slows down logins in W10. We cut like a minute off our login time by allowing Desktop.ini files. Makes it easier for staff too!
  11. Is this to unlock the additional features? Do you still have a computer with a working install of Serif on? We experienced this at the start of term (MoviePlus X6 DE) and Serif said they do not provide unlock codes anymore as their licensing agreements don't allow them to. I resolved this by pulling the keys out of the registry and then deploying that via GPO. The keys should be located here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Serif\MoviePlus\8.1\Registration\Features After exporting them all, I then made a GPO that created them and this resolved the issue for our recently imaged computers Hope that helps!
  12. It's worth noting that this won't prevent students from choosing to Reply All, it just changes the default to Reply instead of Reply All. What's the actual problem that you're trying to solve? Is it that students are hitting Reply All to messages sent to groups (e.g. All Students)? Applying certain permissions to send to groups is a possibility, you can also teach staff to put group email addresses into the BCC section as a simple thing.
  13. Our MAT is moving to Bromcom from SIMS/Integris and we had it demoed to us recently (we're a secondary). Honestly, Bromcom looks great and it's actively developed. I'd recommend looking at that
  14. Haha, sorry couldn't help it! The companies I use are all local so I wouldn't be able to help if you're in the midlands I'm afraid. Depending on the manufacturer as well, they might run a collection program themselves. I know HP was when I had those and Canon supposedly does (although not for our printers!).
  15. We're moving to Accessit this half-term as well from a locally hosted version of Eclipse.net, we didn't move to CRC due to all the backlash and feedback from local librarians so thought it'd be best to wait. We had LibreSoft demo'd to us with a few other local schools and our librarian thought it was ideal for primaries and looked really good, but was missing a few of the key features she needed (like reporting on PP students) in a secondary. We were told that they were still rapidly developing it and it was clear that it was designed well with school librarians in mind. In the end, we booked a web demo of Accessit and have chosen to go with that... so I guess I can report back after half term to see how it's going? For a school of 1000 pupils, the pricing is just under the annual cost of CRC (or the pricing we got for it in 2017). Your year 1 costs will be higher though as you do have to pay for data migration and training.
  16. In a small infant like that, I'd say so and would definitely recommend them
  17. Find a different company? We get our waste toner collected alongside our empty toner cartridges for free. If they wouldn't take the waste toner and I couldn't find a replacement company, I'd get rid of it alongside any old IT equipment when we get our IT kit disposed of as long as they're getting a good haul of PCs/monitors etc. those companies will usually take it as well with no charge.
  18. In any of those situations, we usually use a slim Casio Laser/LED projector on a desk and run cables in a rubber mat/tape them to the floor... or wheeled in a TV on a mobile stand (used for various events etc.). Getting something up has always been the priority, it doesn't have to look pretty and the large majority of the time, staff are very understanding of that. I'd personally avoid a UST projector as I doubt you'll find one that universally clamps to the top of the projector (not in any way that I'd want!) and they are expensive and outdated. In my opinion it's a waste of money for something that will sit unused the majority of the time.
  19. https://support.google.com/a/answer/7644837?hl=en Drive File Stream tries to download everything to local to minimise the amount of calls to their servers, makes sense but can be frustrating! You still need the local content cache path as this is where file stream keeps the files before they're uploaded, but you can specify the ContentCacheMaxKBytes registry key to minimise the space used. We push that out via GPO, although we did find it didn't retroactively clear the cache.
  20. How are you deploying updates? WSUS? In WSUS you can turn off the syncing of feature updates so that it won't even attempt to download and install (Can't remember how exactly as we use SCCM) Do you also have a GPO in place for what readiness level for upgrades and deferring feature updates? Policies/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Windows Update/Windows Update for Business I've got ours set to Semi-Annual Channel and to defer receiving it for 365 days.
  21. Hello, We use offline files as well as folder redirection for our staff laptops. We're experiencing this issue on a few of the Windows 10 laptops, this hasn't been an issue for anyone who is still on Windows 7. The issue is explained in this technet post and showcased in video. A member of staff will open/modify an office document (only been noticed on Word/Powerpoint files so far) and after it syncs, it'll change the entire file to XXXXX.pptx~XXXX.TMP. We can get it back for them temporarily by just renaming the file but the root cause hasn't been fixed. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue at all? The technet post doesn't reference any fixes for the issues. I've yet to try formatting the offline files cache as I want to backup the offline files cache beforehand to prevent any potential data loss (and the teachers can't spare their laptops yet!) Grateful for any help
  22. In the past we found that with our PCs with SSDs and Windows 10 will sometimes boot quickly and students were able to login before the network adapter had initialised properly, so GPOs weren't getting applied as they should've, despite being set to wait for network before allowing logon. Think I followed the guidance in this post and that seemed to help a lot. With your default keyboard, did you install the correct version of Windows 10 as well? There is en-US and en-GB versions and you have to make sure to select the en-GB version from VLSC.
  23. Thanks Joanne, unfortunately those are the details I've tried a few times but not had any response.
  24. Hey, Trying to give Capita our notice to leave, made a ticket back in May to enquire about our license terms and got told 2 weeks later that it had been passed on to the accounts team and they will get in contact. Obviously got nothing back as it's Capita and have been chasing ever since but got nowhere, calling the number just rings forever from my experience! Now it's after the summer Does anyone have any direct email address/number for the accounts team there? Now it's September and we're actually getting close to needing to move on so I want to actually finally speak to someone! Thanks! edit: Finally got a response after 4 or so months. Found out it's a 30 day notice period, not 90 as with other Capita products, but your mileage may vary!
  25. Hello, Just hoping for some ideas that might solve this problem, we've had two reports now of staff taking their laptops (Windows 7) to other colleges and not being able to connect to their wireless network, despite having their IT staff try to help. I'm waiting on one to come back now so I can look through the event logs, but all the information I have right now is it that it'd pop-up saying "Can't connect to this network". Works fine on-site here (We use AD Computer auth and GPO to auto-connect) and also works fine connecting at home. I'm assuming it's something stupid that has been set forever in GPO and I've missed... anyone have any ideas before I get the laptop back in my hands? Thanks!
