Out of curiosity, does anyone happen to know if the Serial Number on a BenQ MX660 Projector is printed anywhere else other than the bottom of the unit? I.e. if one's Tech Dept. has had a fire and the bottom of the Projector looks like melted cheese but the top and insides are relatively intact. We have all the S/N's for these Projectors (about 10) but no one's written which rooms they were mounted in and I'm trying to find an easy way to obtain the S/N for this particular Projector. Thanks.

Has anyone tried setting up a Windows Server 2008 Child Domain at another SWGfL connected school before? Or know of any documentation or guidance on how to go about this (mostly in regards to using an RM supplied connection)? Our situation is that we have our existing Domain which we'd like to extend to our other site (Primary School) by way of a Child (or Sub) Domain. Both sites are connected to the internet via SWGfL. I have opened up all the ports detailed on this page: Active Directory and Active Directory Domain Services Port Requirements except for Ports 25 and 53 as RM disallow opening these up. I have a server on our Primary School site ready to go (Windows Server 2008 R2, DNS set to point back to Main site, all updates installed and AD DS role added) and have configured both DNS at our Main site to replicate between DCs throughout the forest and AD Sites and Services with the Primary School set up as a second site. I don't think i've left anything out but we'll soon see. I run dcpromo, select 'Create a new domain in an existing forest', then on the Network Credentials dialogue I enter our existing domain FQDN and alternate credentials, click Next; it comes up with 'Enumerating Domains' at this point so I know something's working as anything else I type in as a domain name fails simply after clicking Next. It does this for a while then I get the following error... --------------------------- Active Directory Domain Services Installation Wizard --------------------------- The wizard cannot access the list of domains in the forest. The error is: The network path was not found. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- ..At which point I can go no further. Searching on that error, I get many results which suggest a DNS error which I kind of guessed might be the downfall here. So has anyone successfully done this using the method I described or is there another way?

I've had a similar issue in W7 where it would take anywhere around 5 to 60 mins to get from the fading windows logo to actually logging in. Found out in the end this was being caused by the following windows update: KB971033 - Update for Windows Activation Technologies. Whatever it was doing was delaying the time windows took to login. Of course YMMV but i've encountered a few PCs where this was the underlying cause.

As far as I know, Option 60 should be the name of your WDS server in order for WDS to know where to pickup DHCP addresses from when a client boots from network. This is the only thing I think I had to change on our setup for clients to be able boot into WDS. Options 66 & 67 for us are set to an entirely different server to allow for Thinstation to work so i'm not sure they're required. Not sure if this will help but hopefully might point you in the right direction.

How hard is it? I thought it was very hard IMO. After several attempts at upgrading ours to 2.0 and getting an "Incorrect pool file content" error each time I thought it best to create a new 2.2 install and move content somehow over to it. Given how populated our existing install is (i.e. very), it was both a shame and so very irritating that the upgrade didn't work but I was wasting so much time on it in the end that we just decided the best course of action was to create new and go from there.

They're not continuing with any existing school website contracts either as our Primary school site got an email from them a while back telling us so. As far as i'm aware, due to DCC's cost saving exercises I think Edwebs may have got the chop as a result.

It's certainly won't be HP that's for sure. Can't quite understand why though, I've been really rather comfortable with the HP printers we have over some of the other brands we've tried.

Coincidentally, I've been recently looking into how to do this to each individual PC where a certain impatient individual restarts during a GPO install, then complains the software isn't working for them, "But it works on so and so's PC" they cry. Also useful when "Redeploy application" works on all PCs but the one you want it to... To expand a bit on @liamvaughan 's post, you will need to go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy\AppMgmt]. In here are various keys with GUIDs for names. You need to look through each one (or do a search) until you find the one that corresponds to the application you're attempting to install and then delete that particular key. Then run "gpupdate /force" and restart the PC. As the PC starts up, GP will check the above part of the Registry, find no record of the app ever having been installed (fingers crossed) and attempt to re-install the application. Then rinse and repeat for each PC with the same problem. As the GUID used is the same for any PC you may be able to automate the key's removal in some way. As with anything like this YMMV, but I tested this several times at work last week, all with positive results.

It's quite possible I have a copy. I used to "convert" the iPlayer videos for viewing on my Tivo till it died and I built a HTPC so I could view them properly. However, I'm also curious why?

Goes without saying that I too very much missed the forums and sooo glad it's back. I was getting further withdrawal symptoms when the Password Reset wouldn't work for me. Tried it several times with no resulting email; then it hit me, I had a rule (that I'd long forgotten about) set up to deliver all edugeek mails to a very deep subfolder which was why I couldn't see anything.

That may be so but compared to Vista, Windows 7 is like a breath of fresh air. Maybe that's where they're making their argument.

Decided to give Edugeek members first refusal for this before I try ebay so... I am selling a Shuttle SG31G2V2 Black Barebone PC which I bought just over a year ago for the princely sum of £153.89. The spec for it is here. However, its now currently sitting up in my attic with inches of dust covering it as I since replaced it with something else. Originally I was trying to turn it into a virtually silent PC for my bedroom but only ended up using it for a couple of months before then realising that a Mini-ITX motherboard and suitable case to boot was all I really needed. In doing this however, I have cut through the "Warranty Void if Removed" sticker on the power supply in order to check if I could replace the fan, which is why I didn't return it to the supplier (I'm honest, so sue me). Apart from the aforementioned sticker, I have not changed anything on the PC so is still in its original form. It even has its protective plastic film around the edge of the front bezel which I was reluctant to take off until I was sure I could do what I wanted to do with the PC. I have tested it recently so still works as well as it did when I first took it out of the box. I have packed the PC back in its original box and packaging (again kept it because I wasn't sure) with all the supplied accessories. As it's slightly used and the void sticker is broken, I have decided it wouldn't be fair to sell it for the above amount, however I still want to try getting back a large fraction of what I payed for it so I am selling this for £115.00 or best offer.

Check the network cable. There's a moderate chance one of the pins at either the printer end or the switch end isn't making a good connection.

Since when? I've not had to use HP's terrible drivers for a few years now.

The one I installed was listed as "Driver update for HP Color LaserJet 2600n" which admittedly was meant for Windows Server 2003. According to the Microsoft Update catalog however, there is an updated driver for Windows 7/Server 2008 which comes under the name of "Hewlett-Packard - Printers - HP Color LaserJet 2600n" which might work just as well.

We had similar problems with our 2600s when using any of the HP drivers. In the end I tried the driver available on Windows Update; This eliminated many of the problems we had and allowed the printers to work as expected.

I think we need to END this right now, DELETE this thread before it SHIFTs anymore out of CONTROL, START to look at how we can resolve this in the future, then ESCAPE HOME while making sure to LOCK the door behind us on the way out. Sorry, I couldn't resist it.

According to the course handbook for a MSITP course i've just been on this week (6419 if anyone cares), CSVDE is only for creating new users. What you probably want instead is LDIFDE which apparently allows for the creation, modification and export of AD accounts. I haven't worked out how to use it yet though. An easier option would probably be to use this at http://www.wisesoft.co.uk: Bulk AD Users which makes the process IMO a whole lot easier as you can then import a CSV with all the required info and it will update where necessary. EDIT: Apparently LDIFDE uses the same syntax as CSVDE, instead you just use LDIF files, whatever they are...
