No VLANs. I doubt it is the cable, I have 2 printers in the building and both ports have the same problems. I highly doubt 2 cable runs that happen to have printers attached have fallen over at the exact same time. Sticky MACs, I've never set that up, how would I find this out? Cheers PS, should a solution not be found in relatively good time I'll run new cables to the ports and see if that helps.

Hi All, I had a Planet switch die on me yesterday. Replaced it with a similar bit of Cisco kit. Plugged it all back in and everything is fine apart from the 2 printers in the building. If I swap the printers I get no connection. If I take the printers to another data port they connect just fine. If I connect a laptop to the port next to the printers it connects just fine too! WTH!? Really have no idea what is going on here! What can I try next? Cheers, TomHD

Hello All, We have some iPads managed by Apple Configurator and some Macbook Pros. The IT club want to take photos and videos from the iPads and transfer them to the Macbooks using USB cable but the iPad does not appear on the Macbook anywhere! I have tested on Windows machine and the iPad appears as a DCIM folder in Explorer. Anyone able to assist Cheers, TomHD

Hey peeps, we're installing some new gear into a fresh built classroom. We have trunking all around the room and we are now looking for an open back pattress box to mount a volume adapter and VGA etc, but are having trouble to find any box online that has the clips that we want to clip the box into the big trunking we have. Please see picture below with the clips that we need highlighted. Thanks in advance

600 Pupils, 100 Staff. Server room is 2m*3.7m Air conditioned via a Mitsubishi Mr.Slim, houses physical DC, VM Host and APC Smart-UPS in a 42U Rack. Have a few switches in the rack too. I store all sorts of computing bits and bobs in the room as there are some worktops with cupboards below. 5 Comm Boxes dotted around for other switch gear. I currently work in the server room but have been given an office on the other side of the site to work from once its refurbed. Will be glad to get away from the noise and chilly air con output

Office 365 and pupil data retention/child protection

Email is not explicitly mentioned in the RM Toolkit. I guess a student's email could be classed as "work", depends who you ask, but I would have no issue with not having pupil emails archived. On a side note, this is scary: E-mail is disclosable under the access to information regimes. All school e-mail is disclosable under Freedom of Information and Data Protection legislation. Be aware that anything you write in an email could potentially be made public. -
We use PINs for Staff and Students. Staff have 6 digits and is their DOB, Students have 4 digits which is auto generated. We keep a record of the student PINs in a staff shared area so we don't have to manage forgotten PINs. Simple and free! Regarding cards, we use them for door access and we charge £2 for a replacement. We make staff sign an AUP when the card is issued to ensure we can recover costs.

Hello All, My PC is playing up a bit! It was blue screening every now and then! Today it won't boot, won't enter post and the CPU/GPU/RAM LEDs are flashing alternatively in an infinite loop! Anyone have any ideas? Cheers, TomHD

Yupp, the workstations are 32-bit and I did install a slightly different driver for the new virtual queue so will certainly look at changing it to match the existing virtual queue.
-
The reason I bring it up is that I cannot print to my new queue as it is not assigned to my computer. Will raise a ticket with RM on Monday and give an update.
-
@foofighterjim, I was looking at the printer assignments themselves under the "All Printers" section [which is the window that opens when I follow the link you mention], not under the computer properties "printers" tab
-
So I can now see my new virtual printer in "All Printers" in RMMC. I have gone to Locations>My Location>Properties>Printers and have added the virtual printer there. [i have set up a test location and put my desktop in that location] When I go to Printers>All Printers>My Virtual Printer>Properties>Assignment it shows no location or computer!? Am I still missing something? Thanks in advance

Thanks Chaps, worked perfectly. You learn something everyday eh and it makes complete sense now.
