Questionnaire from e-Safer Suffok
TomHD replied to TomHD's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
The question does not ask whether it is on site or not. So if the Suffolk proxy is actually a caching server then the answer would be yes? Yes we are with Suffolk/E2BN so thanks for that information Regarding the SSL conns, I'm in the process of delivering a certificate supplied by Schools Choice to all the devices that have web connectivity -
Hello All, I have a questionnaire from these people and there are a few questions I'm not 100% on. Any advice would be appreciated. It asks: Does your organisation use a caching server? Do all computers access the net via the cache? Does the cache filter content? We use a proxy for web access across all devices and we are filtered by E2BN so in my mind the answer to those questions would be YES. Is this correct? Cheers, TomHD

Does a Filtered Log File help @Steve21

Thanks Steve, The errors are on the following: BITS service Winmgmt service Other services do appear later as 7011 but the start of the problems began with BITS/Winmgmt The first 7011 is on the BITS service then predominantly on the Winmgmt service. Is there a way to export a more meaningful presentation from Event Viewer? So that you guys can see what you might need to? I've attached a Filtered Log File, does it help? Event log TomHD.zip Cheers, TomHD

Hello All, Woken up by the admin office with complaints about the network. Came in to find problems. A reboot of the server fixed the problems. Now I am looking at the event viewer and am finding many errors during the overnight period. Could anyone offer some assistance to finding the problem? I have attached a capture of the event viewer, let me know if more information will help. Event Viewer - 161214.xlsx Cheers, TomHD

Hi matt40k, the instructions are from Schools Choice. Do you know if installing SOLUS 3 will stop SOLUS 2 from working? Cheers, TomHD
-
Thanks fairm010. I have the folder share set, I have given SYSTEM and Domain Admins full control, Everyone has read only. Do I need to limit the simultaneous user? Also the instructions say "Ensure offline files is switched off on the share". I did a quick search and am thinking that I have to open the Caching option from the Advanced Sharing and select "No files or programs from the shared folder are available offline"? Cheers, TomHD

Hello all, I am upgrading to SOLUS 3 and need a bit of help to explain some of the instructions given to me. I may have a few questions but let us start with the following: "Share G:\SOLUS3\UpdateRepository as updaterepository$." Could someone elaborate on this for me? Perhaps point me to some helpful resources? I do understand that the updaterepository$ part means a hidden share but should I limit the simultaneous users? And what permissions need setting? I am very new to SIMS etc and don't want to mess it up. Thanks in advance. TomHD

I had to refill my boiler just yesterday after bleeding some rads. It is very simple and your landlord would probably expect you to be able to do it. You say he's a plumber so perhaps he can come show you how it is done and you will know in future. Else, you could look at the manual and it will more than likely detail what needs to be done. Look for "Filling" or "Re-pressurising" sections. TomHD

I'm pretty sure that building regulations allow you to leave the filling loop in place nowadays. TomHD

Don't want to sound like an idiot but what do you mean by this? Cheers

Thanks 3s, I have tried that following this advice from RM: 1) Logon to your FRDC as administrator 2) Start-Run-gpmc.msc 3) On the Group Policy Management console 4) Expand Establishment->Right click All Stations policy and click Edit 5) Expand Computer configuration->Policies->Windows Settings->Select File System 6) Right click File System->Add File->Folder section type the path as %systemdrive%ProgramData\Pivot Animator ->Click OK 7) Click Add and add a group as Everyone and give Write permission to the group. 8) Peform a gpupdate /force in the server and reboot a couple of stations. 9) Login as a student user and let me know your findings Doesn't work

Hi All, I have installed Pivot Animator across the CC4 network. When it is opened for the first time the language needs setting, this is written to the .ini. When Pivot is closed it tries to write to the .ini again. The problem I am getting is when I am logged in as any user that is not an administrator, Pivot cannot access the .ini and subsequently tries to write to the error log .txt so I get three errors. I have played support tennis with RM and have added Group Policy via GPMC for All Users to allow access to the Pivot folder in ProgramData and have added a Software Restriction through RMMC to allow files in that path and subsequent files and folders to be run but still am having no luck. If I login as admin and manually set the ProgramData\Pivot Animator path to full control for all users it will work but this is not a viable solution for 100+ workstations! Anyone have Pivot Animator working on their CC4 network? Thanks, TomHD

Hello All, I have 2 machines in our library that on start up try auto logging into a .\ user profile (it fails as there is no password for the .\ profile). To login to the CC4 network I have to press Switch User and select Other User. Is there an easy way to remove this .\ profile and stop the machine trying the auto login? Thanks, TomHD

I have just looked into RM Auditor! Looks like it will do what he wants

Good Morning All, My IT Director has requested that we come up with a solution to monitor the applications used in ICT lessons. Has anyone done this before? Or have a solution to offer? FYI we are running CC4 if it has any bearing. Looking forward to hearing what you guys think. Best, TomHD

Thanks for the responses guys We rebuilt using bootable USB... Plenty more to learn on the RM/CC4 side... Hopefully going on the next CC4 Course Have a good 1 all TomHD

Thanks synaesthesia. I did some reading about how others had installed their package builder virtually and I would like to do the same. Do you know of any resources that will guide me through the setup? Many thanks, TomHD
-
Hello All, My IT Tech wrongly restored the package builder instead of rebuilding it to create a clean workstation! Now getting a domain trust error! Have been on to RM Support and they have said to rebuild but trying to rebuild via RMMC is not doing anything! Could anyone suggest what I can do next? Thanks, TomHD
-
Thanks, I did try the shortcut bank method but had no joy. I will try again but may have to add it to the package. I used a Scratch blueprint direct from RM so how would I add a shortcut to the package? Sorry to sound so dumb!
-
Hello All, I have done some searching and not come up with an answer. I'm very new to CC4 so basic explanations will be appreciated I have built a Scratch package and can distribute it to the machines but can't figure out making shortcuts. I can open Scratch via Program Files but only as myself (admin) other users will not have access to the C drive. Thanks in advance. TomHD

Fluke OneTouch Series II Network Assistant
TomHD replied to TomHD's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Thanks for that insight m25man Certainly the OptiView is out of the question but if I get to play with one for a few days for free I won't turn it down. I'm certainly interested in the Fluke tools. You mention a LinkRunner paired with AirCheck covers all bases... Would a OneTouch cover the same bases? More bases? Or does it have different purposes? Cheers -
I ignored the Herman Millers (They're more popular for their design and iconic status rather than their ergonomics... I've even heard some people say that they aren't all that comfy over long periods.) and went for a second hand RH Logic 400 from eBay for £200 delivered. It had a few cosmetic marks here and there but has been a game changer. Just to give you some back story... At university I had a bike accident which messed my right hip and knee up! At the time I was writing my dissertation so spending 6-8 hours a day in an antique leather chair, looked great but upon reflection incredibly uncomfortable and was detrimental to my recovery. After getting private medical care my doctor suggested that I get a better chair. I found Logic and saw that they offered a 5 day trial and had one sent. I ordered the one from eBay about an hour or so after receiving the trial chair. My recovery from then on was great, so much so I have done numerous cycle tours of Europe since. Considering your back problems you should be looking for serious orthopaedic/ergonomic chairs that are designed for extended use. They're going to be very pricey in comparison to a chair from Staples etc but your health is priceless.

Fluke OneTouch Series II Network Assistant
TomHD replied to TomHD's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Thanks for the responses I will hold back on the Series II. I have contacted Fluke about the 5 day trials they offer so will hopefully get to try the LinkRunner, OneTouch or OptiView onsite At what level can one justify spending the money on a Fluke? -
Hello all, I have been offered a Fluke OneTouch Series II Network Assistant (http://www.flukenetworks.com/findit/ja-jp/9824576) at a reasonable price (still not a few quid though!) and wondered if anyone here has one, has used one and if they are still relevant considering it has no gigabit capabilities. There's not much talk about them online either! The new model looks awesome but starts at around the £2500 mark and is out of the question. Looking forward to hear what you guys think Cheers, TomHD
