I forgot to mention that you want to make sure to buy the iPads from an Authorised Apple Reseller that are using Device Enrollment Program (DEP). This makes setting them up much easier. Before getting any iPads, it might be worth waiting until IOS 9.3 as a lot is changing.

We're using Casper. Helps with our MACs also. Most top MDM's are the same because Apple only release certain API's at a time and the top MDM's implement them straight away. The interfaces are just usually different. Some to look at: Casper Airwatch Lightspeed Meraki I've used Casper and Meraki. Casper has a really old looking UI but simple to navigate. Meraki has a fancy UI but seems to put some things in odd places. Just my opinion anyways.

You can find a few guides on the internet for setting up File Resources Manager to handle specific extension types. It requires keeping on top of once new versions of ransomware come about. This is one I followed. I didn't set up the batch file to run but might be worth doing. You can also setup File Resource Manager to block certain file types running in specific areas on a computer. So for example, you can stop exe files from running in the TEMP folder.

We have split lunches for years. Around 600 students. I don't know what effect it has on timetabling but I've not heard it be an issue.

There's isn't a way round it unless it's your own iBook. What we've done is host the iBook ourself on a web server and deploy it from there. I hope it changes in the future as they introduced Device based VPP but doesn't really work if you want to add iBooks to the iPads. You'll still have to create apple ID's for these iPads.

The user is appearing in the App Management console but only for the newer account which hasn't been associated yet. The old account which has been deleted out of SIMS does not appear in the App Management console so we're unable to disassociate that user as it no longer exists but she can still log into it. Some sort of phantom account. I've raised a support call so hopefully we'll figure this out.

The only way round this I found was to enable location services. This will then set the time zone based on your location. Or you can go round each individual iPad and change the time settings manually.

We've emailed results the last 2 years and it hasn't been an issue. We use their school email address.

Yep me too. The only issue I have is they aren't offering a way to transfer current apple ID's to this new managed system.

Recently sent an Access Point back to Meru/Fortinet under warranty (to France). I asked several times for a shipping label to return the item but eventually got an answer saying we have to pay for postage which I found quite odd. Usually companies provide a returns label so we ended up spending a fair bit of money to return this access point. Slightly frustrating but needed swapping out.

You should look into an MDM solution. I find with shared iPads it's better to use a mix of Apple Configurator 2 and an MDM. Use AC2 for initial settings such as wifi and then let the MDM do the rest. As you're using shared devices you should also look into buying licenses (VPP) for apps and assign them at a device level. This will mean you don't need an apple ID at all for the iPads. As you're getting a load of iMacs, it might be worth look at Casper MDM as it can be used to manage and image iMacs. Make sure any new ipads/imacs you get are from an Apple Re-seller so that you can supervise devices over the air with apples Deployment enrollment program (DEP).

It depends what you really want. Most of the top MDM's do the same thing. We use Casper at it can also handle MAC imaging and policies but is also one of the most expensive. There are other MDM's like Airwatch and Meraki which are very good.

I went to an apple event last week and got to meet all the Apple Education reps. They said themselves not to use profile manager and go with any other MDM.

Don't think there is much you can do. Maybe you can call apple support but they will probably not help if you don't know the secret questions. How about creating a new apple id for the member of staff using their actual email address?

Can't you choose to send an email to reset the password rather than answering questions.

We have a separate SIMS manager so this may be possible. The reason I'm told at the moment why we can't admit them early is because they'll be on our census data and if the student doesn't turn up for what ever reason, it causes a lot of extra work to remove them. Would your suggestion put the student on the census data?

I don't think this is possible but I was wondering if it's possible to populate the admission number field in SIMS before the student is admitted. The reason is we use Salamandar to create student accounts via their admission number and we usually get requests to set the students up with an account before they start. We have to say it's not possible as the student doesn't get an admission number until they're admitted which is the day they walk through the door.
