We've just implemented 2FA for all staff on gmail. Took a while but and had a fair bit of moaning but we're almost there!

Wasn't working for me but tried incognito mode (private browsing) and it worked. Must be something cached or an add-on causing issues.

Yea, we're a 1:1 school where the school own the devices and we don't really get these issues. We still get quite a few breakages but we charge a fee for each broken iPad which gets higher the more times the student breaks them. Charging cables have always been an issue. The lightning cables are so fragile and start breaking at the ends after a year or so. We have loads of plugs but are forever buying new cables which students have to pay for.

I've just signed up to this and the test email worked. Have to wait and see what else comes in. Does anyone know how this kind of service works when the app asks for permissions to monitoring user accounts/emails especially when GDPR is coming up?

We have iPads for our pre-prep and junior school. They're good at putting them away and putting them on charge but the cables break/stop working quite often. These are 3rd party lightning cables which might be the reason. It's not necessary the kids breaking them (some do but our teachers and older students manage to break them too). We brought some Kensington charge and sync boxes which are very expensive and absolutely rubbish. The cooling fan broke on a few and the USB and so many USB ports have stopped working. We're looking at getting some different sync units this year but not sure yet.

We've recently setup our SIMS team and Maintenance team with Spiceworks. They seem to be getting on fine with it.

That would be a huge security concern if they could change password without knowing their old password. You would have to setup something else up to verify who they are but I don't think Passcore can do this.

All symbols. The Character Map screen has a Font selection box at the top that defaults to Arial when a machine is first opening the software. If the software is closed and re-opened it keeps the last selected type face. It doesn't use what is in the config (screen font family). Also, pasting a symbol moves the writing cursor onto the next line.

As I was screenshotting I've just seen what is causing it. When they go into the character map area, there is a font selection box at the top which seems to default Arial which is different to the font being used on their WordPad. I still get the highlighting error issue with any symbol. Edit: It seems the character map screen defaults to the last selected type face and not Arial.

Had a student using a maths symbol today. He noticed that once he inserted the symbol it would change the font to a different format and get rid of line spacing. I've tested it with a few symbols and it seems to be the case but only when you're inserting a symbol at the end of a document (so no white space below - not sure how to explain this) . Also, pasting the symbol puts the writing cursor onto the next line. I think this is where Google Classrooms will benefit you. Teachers can upload work to the class and have a choice of view, edit or have their own copy of the document. Students can then upload their work to the class and get graded by the teacher. As you say, GSFE doesn't allow a particular area on a document to be controlled by a student. Everything you're asking for can be done automatically and teachers don't need to do anything except upload documents/work to their classrooms.

We used GSFE heavily. I don't have any experience with OneNote but all documents in Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Slides etc are collaborative. Google have recently released Google Keep which is for note taking - note sure if this is an alternative to one note. You could use Team Drives for File repository. As GSFE has unlimited space you can create as many Team Drives as you want that can be department specific or an area for all staff/students. You can also use Google Classroom. This creates a folder for each student for each subject/class they take. This can be created by salamander also. Teachers can create their own classes manually.

We've got about 15 word processing students and none have reported this.

Similar experience. We had Inventry installled this year on version 3. It couldn't handle our SIMS setup very well so they upgraded us to version 4 in the Easter holidays. It does seem to work better now but still missing a few things.

Ah okay. I read, "aimed at PP kids", as aimed at pre-prep kids.

This is what we do. Our asset tags have a 5 digit code which we name the machine with. We then update the asset system (parago) with all the details of the user and location.

I don't think this will be possible if it is aimed at preprep kids as they're not suppose to have Apple ID's until they're 13. Apple's way round this is Apple School Manager but that apple ID will then belong to the school. The only option you've got is to involve the parents and have them create an apple ID. You then send them redeemable codes against their apple ID so that app belongs to that apple ID forever.

You would then have to use redeemable codes. So the code is redeemed to that users Apple ID so they have access to that license/app.

When purchasing apps via the VPP portal, make sure you select Managed Distribution and NOT Redeemable codes. Managed distribution tie the licenses to your VPP account so you can re-assign licenses to devices/users. This shows the differences: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT202995

We ended up installing the free version of LAN Video conferencing software system | Dedicated TrueConf Server. We only need a couple of users so the 6 user limit is fine for us. We've not tested it yet so not sure how good it is.
