  1. It might be that sophos cleaned it up then but didn't repair the shortcuts?
  2. I'd run something else as well across it. Spybot or Malwarebytes are pretty good. Also upload that 'uVXUA.pYXN' file to VirusTotal and see what it comes back with.
  3. Virus on the end users machine.
  4. I would hope that most people had already fixed up their Layer 3 and had decent a decent infrastructure with managed switches, VLANs, etc, before they got to the point of considering VoIP.
  5. You want to VLAN off BYOD stuff as you have no idea what they are using and have no control over it. Ideally you want to check these devices before you let them on your network too. I do this with Packetfence myself. PacketFence: Open Source NAC (Network Access Control)
  6. Yes, you have to look at the system as a whole. Not just one bit. What's the point of have fail over on your Internet connectivity if you don't have redundancy in your core network or server infrastructure? What about underlying supporting systems like power and air con for example? If you take this to the Nth degree you end up with a very large price tag attached to it and you need to ask yourself if it's really worth the time, effort and expense? Granted if your running a hospital or a stock exchange then yes it probably is. In your average school? No I think your standard disaster recovery is sufficient.
  7. Whatever you get you must make sure that it takes a totally different route to your site. More than once I've been on a site that's had it's main net connection taken out by some building work and everyone wonder why the backup didn't kick. Until I point out it runs down the same ducting that got run over by the JCB as the main fibre.
  8. Your comments are messed up. As per @Captain_Slow you need to alter your original to something like this: More info here: http://www.quirksmode.org/css/condcom.html

    Openfiler

That would depend on your environment. Why did you use Openfiler in the first case?

    Openfiler

The simplest approach is to have the machine that is using the iSCSI target reshare it (assuming it's a Windows Server). You can get Openfiler to expose it directly but it can be a little fiddly to get it working right.
  11. DroidSheep [ROOT] | DroidSheep
  12. Un-install the admin tools from the Terminal server?
  13. No, it did exactly what you asked it to do. Not it's fault if you didn't think things through.
  14. You're complaining that a sequentially read optical disk spinning via mechanical means when reading thousands of files spread over the disk is slow? Sorry, can't do much about the laws of physics. I'd suggest you buy a 4Gb flash usb stick and put your pictures on that, then keep the DVD somewhere safe and dark as a backup for when, not if, your usb stick gets eaten by the dog/stolen/washed.
  15. I think CentOS/Redhat does this out the box. It also sets some reasonable defaults for /etc/security/limits.conf too.
  16. man logrotate
  17. As a normal user, you can't break anything other than your own stuff in your home directory (depending on the limits set by root, for example you could still max the CPU, fill the memory or the disk as a normal user if there were no process limits or disk quotas imposed on you). You can test if this is the case by running a fork bomb. #!/bin/sh ){ :|:& };: As root you can destroy the file system and its contents and even destroy physical hardware if you so choose to (overwriting firmware or the bios that linux exposes rw to root via /dev). Remember with Linux there are no safety nets. It assumes you know what you are doing and will follow your requests to the letter. With all the terrible consequences that entails.
  18. I just threw away an Awaya IP Office 450. I've replaced it with a Rack server running FreePBX and Polycom VOIP desk phones. Another option a lot of people here will suggest is Microsoft Lync.

    School Minecraft server

The LWJGL libraries shipped with minecraft are old and crummy. Replace them with the current release. lwjgl.org - Home of the Lightweight Java Game Library This is required on Linux machines as the minecraft provided LWJGL libraries don't even work.
  20. The users public_html folder is missing or unreadable by the webserver.
  21. Did you disable the proxy settings for WinHTTP on your clients after you implemented WSUS? Otherwise they will attempt to contact your WSUS server via your proxy (which probably doesn't work, depending on your setup).
  22. Sometimes I wonder if Microsoft wants to fail. They are going to drive consumers away, giving Apple and Linux a free Lunch with misguided 'features' like this.
  23. When I post the following string (minus code tags): HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer Like this: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer I get random whitespace in 'CurrentVersion' between the n and the e.
  24. Search the registry for 'Display1_DownScalingSupported' (the path varies depending on your video drivers) and change the value from 0 to 1. If there's more than one entry in multiple locations, change them all. Problem solved. To disable metro go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer and change 'RPEnabled' from 1 to 0.
  25. That's caused by a deadlock when you reboot both servers together. They try and query each other for DNS so they can start AD (which contains the DNS information). This Catch-22 results in about a 20min apparent hang on bootup before you can login.
