If he puts the curric VM on the other BOX, that'll just be for storage purposes as most admin networks are VLAN'd off? That's how it is on my networks, dedicated admin ports on the cisco router on a different range.

Why does School Internet (Filtered) cost so much ?
Patrick replied to ReBoot's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I agree with you. I'm in a primary setup using BTLS Lightspeed and i couldn't even imagine going homegrown. -
Hi! Does the app sunc automatically? Button mashing for the little un's is not a good idea! ha

Happy new year all. We are a primary school with around 16 iPads. The kids go around taking pictures of various stuff for lessons. The head has informed me that we are not supposed to store pictures on these and would like to set up some sort of cloud storage where the photos are synced and then we'll wipe the iPads camera roll periodically. Can anyone recommend anywhere? She described dropbox as shit so somewhere else maybe? Thanks guys!

Yesterday my phone was on the Wifi and facebook was working, so we had the same issues. Just glad the "little darlings" didn't notice.

Here i just have an excel file per room and in the file i have a make and model colum, description and then the serial number. I need the projector info and the IWB so autogenerated stuff from a script is half the battle as i'd have to walk round to each room anyway to get the IWB info. We are just primary though so typically only a few machines in each room.

I've got 1 failed hard drive, 2 damaged laptops, 6 forgotten passwords, 1 corrupt flash drive ... and a partridge in a pear tree!

I always thought he was pretty good! Just came into the sport at a bad time when there has been huge turnover of young drivers.

Honestly? In education I wouldn't bother using it as the main driver. Make VM's for educational uses in labs. It's integration with your existing AD is flakey at best and will just make more work for you.

To in-place upgrade from 2008 to 2012 or to not ??
Patrick replied to mikkydoos's topic in Windows Server 2012
I did an in place upgrade of 2008r2 to 2012r2. Server is AD DC/DHCP/DNS/file and print server. It went fine and dandy! Not a SIMS server though, not sure if would make a difference.- 10 replies

Jenson Button has accepted a salary cut from £12m a year to less than £8m under the terms of his new contract at McLaren. His new team-mate Fernando Alonso will earn £25m a year. (Daily Telegraph) Probably one of the reasons he kept his seat.
-
I read on BBC news this morning that he took a big pay cut, but it's not there anymore so maybe they retracted it. I just hope that Honda engine is up to scratch come march.

Looks like Button took a £6m pay cut to keep his seat. Get the feeling alonso will be on a fair bit more than £6m..

OK, so most of my schools have been changed over to O365 and the migration went well. Then all of a sudden in the past few days some email accounts at different schools are not receiving emails. The offending accounts still receive internal emails. So i'm betting they have screwed up some DNS settings. Who else is having similar issues?

Virtualisation - VMware vs HyperV
Patrick replied to BKGarry's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
Anyone at primary level bothered to move into virtualisation? We are still on single server hosting many roles (AD DC, DHCP, print file server) and haven't really felt the need to move. I mean, I've had moments where I've needed to reboot the print server and that's obviously taken everyone down, but its rare that happens. -

Internet connection speeds
Patrick replied to Patrick's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Umm..this is weird. Looking at the controller it only shows 9 devices connected at that time? It probably load balenced the clients to the other AP, but the traffic for that period was close to 4GB at around the time of 12PM. That much traffic coming down the line at one time may well bring it to a crawl. What do you guys think? -
The student has probably got a local admin account or something. Why don't you just go up the schools network manager and ask for the domain administrator account? He'll tell you exactly why you can't have it.

Hi all, We are a small primary school that have a fair amount of devices. This morning, one of the teachers has informed me that a class of 30, so thats 30 laptops, had issues loading "the internet". Turns out they all logged on ok (Unifi AP's) but when they all tried to login to bug club some just hanged and some took 20 minutes she said. Speedtest.net reports the line speed (at lunch time) to be downloading 8mbs and uploading at 7.7mbs. I wasn't around to witness the problem so can't say for sure if everything she told me is fact, but i'm looking for second opinions. Do you think the internet line speed was the issue? http://www.speedtest.net/result/3959222481.png Thanks!

It's probably just a more stable release of the update "Fast" people got. I doubt we'll see a new build until the new year now.

Affordable wireless controller/system for a primary school?
Patrick replied to JJanisch's topic in Wireless Networks
Unifi AP's for us! We have a corridor of classes at a primary school that sometimes have about 60 devices on at once. We had 3 Netgear boxes covering this area and the connection was slow and would drop out often. Installed 2 AP's yesterday at the school and all seems to be well, still testing this out if we need a third one in this area but looking unlikely at the moment! Can't fault Unifi AP's. -
Does this mean we will be bale to deploy .exe packages across the network using this?

Running it as my main OS on my desktop at home because windows 8.1 threw a wobble and I couldn't find the disk...Windows 10 tech preview is very stable and have no worries about this feedback "keylogger"...

Afternoon! A while ago i had an email from BT telling me that Lightspeed MDM will soon be available for us to use. Anyone know when we can get going on this? Is it already in place but i just don't know it? CLEO is my provider. Bit of a loss as to where to look for this as i move between different schools. Thanks
