I was in my first IT job, with a NM who insisted on having the mouse balls cleaned every week! I think it was 3.1 changing over to 95 as the year progressed. Before that I'd been part timing around my children, anything from pot wash to selling "interesting" hardware to army wives! lol

Fairly big primary school (600+ children) All classrooms and teaching areas have pcs. All teachers are issued with laptops for use within school and from home. Access to their network area and staff area of network available from home.

We have just bought in the use of passwords across the whole school (Primary) Initially the passwords were set at the name of the class the student was in, but on the first log on they had to change their password. The KS2 children had the idea of complex passwords explained to them as part of an E-safety lesson. The KS1 children been given the option of choosing a word they can spell (!) and most of the KS1 teachers have kept a record of their classes passwords. All teaching staff have the ability to reset passwords for their classes so they shouldn't (HA!) have to ask me to change them when they are forgotten.

I have just been informed that the school are purchasing 22 hudl 2 from Tescos. Can I ask anyone that already has them in school, how do you store and charge them please? Also can I use Meraki to manage them? thanks

Dont forget to check whether you need a permit to use a van at your local tip. the ones round here won't allow vans of any shape or size without a permit.

nothing, not a single card or even a slightly squashed quality street. Not surprised, been here nearly 8 years and half the staff still don't know when I work. Finish work tomorrow at 12 and they won't see me for dust and wheel spins as I leave the car park ;p have a very good break guys xxx

finish here on Friday lunchtime. Odd chrimbo this year, eldest now married so will be in his own house, middle pain now in relationship and spending Christmas with her family. Only youngest son home with me and hubby so I will cook too much, weep a bit , laugh a lot and count my blessings. Then walk my two dogs and my new foster basset for miles and miles, have to get the basset into shape for a new home in the new year.

Morning I have just started to use Meraki and wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction for a idiot guide when using with both ipads and android. My main issue is that I have enrolled the ipads (we have the grand total of 4!) but they have been used by individual teachers for the last god knows so have random free apps on them already but no consistency across the 4. I need to figure out if the best way of managing them, the ipads not the teachers (I gave up with them years ago) any suggestions gratefully accepted. thanks

It may be just me :$ but when the ofsted page loads it needs to be zoomed out before the whole width of the page can be read. I don't even know if anything can be done about that so apologise if not. At a school yesterday afternoon that were having some training from an external supplier. HE (the trainer) couldn't get on the internet and shouted that my server must be off! My server wasn't off and he eventually believed me after standing looking over my shoulder and asking if I knew what I was doing! Once I'd removed the blunt instrument from his nether regions I pointed out that he'd unplugged the mini switch that particular room needed so that he could charge his phone (!!!) Cue one smug trainer standing red faced in front of room full of teachers and one even smugger faced me silently walking out of the room!

May I ask if you are all on site support or do you cover several different schools? This is my issue, I cover several different schools and can't always drop everything when an issue crops up at a particular school. This is one of the concerns I have with selecting/advising the school on which system to adopt. Initially the school will be running 64 laptops through the wireless, the head is concerned about having too many access points and those pesky wireless waves hitting the children :$ Unify installers recommending over 20 access points where as ruckus installers say 9!

Excuse my ignorance to start with. My school is considering installing Ubiquity Unify to cover the schools wireless system. They have also considered Ruckus. I know that with Ruckus you can pretty much just leave it to run itself with out any issues (usually) How much managing does Ubiquity need? My main concern is that if I was unable to attend the school for any reason, and the wireless went down, how hard would it be for a non-technical person to get it back up and running? thanks

People get quite "funny" with me when I won't fb "friend" them. Staff don't like it, but thats their problem not mine. I am quite selective as two of my boys are in the armed forces and I don't want the world and his wife knowing where they are posted or when they are travelling. But I have also unfriended my father in law as he doesn't seem to be able to hold his tongue when online and forgets (not that he had many) his social graces!!! He also believes EVERYTHING that he sees on Fb. I've also unfriended one family member who insists on "liking" everything. In fact my boys and I had a bet on how quickly the phantom liker took to like different updates, 2.5 seconds won!!lol Most of my photos are rescue dogs, I foster for a rescue, or my own dogs who are particularly stupid

Morning. I have a question or several regarding licencing. Currently the school don't have an agreement regarding MS licencing for their operating systems. Each pc that is purchased is bought with an OS. I think it goes back to the beginning of time when the school use to have stand alone computers and they have never thought of changing :$ I am not very clear on the licencing and the many available options, this is where I need some help please. I seem to remember that there are options for how many staff the school have and also for how many pcs we have but I don't know which way to go or who to ask for advise. we currently run a 2008 Rs server with all w7 workstations. Can someone recommend a idiot friendly re-seller that won't mind me asking daft and inane questions over and over again whilst I try to sort this out and persuade the head that this is the best way to go. thanks

I think its more of a connections issue not an actual problem with the board itself. It's one of the boards that can be moved up and down the wall with an integrated projector, think its the 600 series but can't remember off the top of my head. I think that with the environment that it is used it the board may have been yanked on quite forcefully in the past and caused an issue with the wires inside the top of the arm that is attached to the board from the projector. It projects the image from the pc, but no sound and not interactive. Sorry I seem to have lost my powers of description today :$

One of my primary schools "unit" classrooms has had on going problems with their Smartboard I've tried everything I can think of and believe it to be a hardware issue. Teacher is desperate to get it sorted as her pupils rely on it greatly. Can any one recommend someone to visit and quote/fix please. The school is in Leicestershire. thanks
