Yes there will, you can easily max out a 1Gb connection with iSCSI and becomes the bottleneck. Try link aggregation first as that's easier to set up, but it depends whether your server nic-switch-san talk to each other nicely using it. Easiest way to tell is set it up then copy a load of files across whilst monitoring traffic on the server, switch and SAN, you should find trafiic across all the link aggregated ports if it's working well.

Don't go off advertised price for this stuff, go to an HP Procurve main partner and they will get you education pricing, which is a lot better. Even after that, haggle ;-)
-
Rather than trying to spec this up yourself, I would strongly recommend you put together a little document of what you want to do with your core switch, size of network etc and get a few HP Procurve resellers, or even HP direct to specify exactly what you need. Get this in writing, as once I got a verbal spec off HP, ordered through a reseller and found some of the modules were wrong. As I had no documentary evidence that HP had mis-specified we had to take quite a hit on a re-stocking fee as we didn't realise until we'd opened the packaging.

Look at multipathing (MPIO), or link aggregation/port trunking on the switch. Both need a bit of playing with to get optimum performance and it depends on your switch/network cards etc which is going to work best.

You must buy HP mini-gbics, other ones won't work. Also be careful if uou're tempted to pick the up second hand, as the older revisions of the HP ones don't work either! What size network have you got and how many switches you going to be connecting to this? Also, are you going to be using VLANS and if so would this also act as the router?

Bigger than a netbook, but only just

Well, didn't see your original post, but anyway, your signature and using you company logo as your avatar is definitely advertising. -
Yes, bumping the no 3 sign I was crying with laughter at that! It's the side of Vettel that really puts me off him, he really needs to grow up, but I do enjoy watching his tantrums when he has yet another epic fail.

Changing ESXI server ip address
teejay replied to plexer's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
Yep, that's about right. I would do a backup copy of the VM's before you do this though, it's one of those tasks where you should be very careful! -
There is also the power consumption to consider, the i5/7 consume far less power and run cooler than the older processors.

Oh, forgot to mention, especially if you want to specialise, add Prince II and possibly ITIL to that list :-)

It really depends on what you want to do and what interests you. Network Manager roles tend to be jack of all trades, so you need to now everything! You could specialise in a specific area which you enjoy, which will then lead to probably higher paid jobs working in the private sector. So really, just get get stuck into all of them, if you find one you really enjoy, or find you enjoy a specific field then concentrate on that area.

Couple of other things worth doing, there is access to the Microsoft e-learning you can enable, which is pretty good and also it's worth signing up to the MSDN Academic Alliance which is also free if you have a schools agreement, but if the promotion code isn't in your welcome letter it's a painful process getting one as you have to go back to the company you bought the school agreement from.

A few options: 1. On most SANS you can configure the management interface to run on a different IP range to the range you are using for the storage connections, in which case plug the management port into your main switch rather than your SAN switch. 2. Set up a route to that ip range on whatever is your default gateway on both ip ranges. 3. Set up a VLAN running back to the PC you want to admin the SAN from and add a extra network card and set it in the ip range of the SAN.

Yeah, for some reason the image is shrinking, just trying to fix it lol.

I do use the rep button and the thanks button, but just for positive rep and mainly in the tech forums when someone has given very useful advice. I can see the point of neg rep, but have to agree it's being abused at the moment. I don't know if the mods/admins can get details of who is dishing out loads of neg rep and have a few words?

set option 66 in your dhcp to point to your wds server

Looks like you've got a loopback somewhere, try enabling spanning tree protocol on your switches.

That's a very dodgy tag line in that dsstyles advert that's being displayed on the page...

I would not recommend this, but we had one teacher who got a job in UAE, didn't tell the school he was leaving until the end of the day before he was flying out. Not really much they can do apart from withhold any unpaid wages, bit difficult to sue you if you're in the UAE.

Oops, msidirected you there! It's done from the command line: dcgpofix /target:Domain dcgpofix /target:DC or dcgpofix /target:both to do both at the same time. -
Roaming profiles here. We are allowing pupils to change their desktop settings and access to the accesibility options and this is the only way it will work. Works great though.
