TBH, we don't touch them. They get a quick dust out if we're replacing the bulbs, that's it. We are still running some 8 year old projectors, some others have failed after 3 years, but the failure rate is extremely low. I just don't see the point or have the time to keep cleaning them as it would take nearly 2 weeks for a technician to go round them all and clean them.

The only reason to keep a physical DC is to avoid the single point of failure of a software bug in the virtualisation software. You could just as easily maintain a DC VM using different virtualisation software as an emergency, there is no benefit in it being a physical rather than virtual server. There used to be timing problems and all sorts in earlier versions of virtualisation software, which is why they recommended keeping a physical DC and definitely not do a P2V of a DC as the software wasn't designed for it. Nowdays that isn't the case.

As long as it's the same release of windows, the yes you can just get one VLK. So if the OEM keys are for Windows 7 Professional you can re-image with Windows 7 Professional VLK, if they are OEM Windows 7 Home you cannot re-image with Windows 7 Professional without buying a VLK for each machine (cheapest through an EES agreement in that case). Yes, you do need them and no they're not included in the price from Capita! What you have been quoted is expensive though, I'm sure you can get them a lot cheaper, have a look at an EES agreement as I'm sure you can get them through that. Alternatively, look at the alternatives to SLG from people like Bromcom and TASC Software, both of which are very impressive products and don't require Sharepoint.

From the looks of it, it has some I/O headers which just needs pins soldering on, so could be used for all sorts of stuff like robotics, climate monitoring etc. This looks ideal for the 'networked kettle' mentioned in another thread. Raid 1/Raid 5 setup is fine, memory as much as you can get, processor wise it's not 'that' intensive, we run 170 mailboxes and have it running across 3 VM's using VMWare, processor wise they use: SMTP: Maximum 552Mhz OWA: Maximum 1835Mhz Mailbox: Maximum 2024Mhz Memory wise they use: SMTP: Average 1.8Gb OWA: Average 2.5Gb Webmail: 2.8Gb Give headroom above these figures, but it gives you an idea.

You've two options really: Buy a new header server and attach it to your SAN if it has enough capacity. Buy a server with sufficient local storage to run the exchange server and use that as the storage, install Xenserver on it and use the local storage. I virtualise all my servers now, even if they're going to use local storage, just makes it much easier when upgrading the hardware or for disaster recovery.

You can stick it on one server with local storage, but I would still recommend virtualising it. Look at getting a Microsoft EES agreement as it's cheap as chips on that.
