That's the opposite of what we've been told by Microsoft, who have specifically told me that students, parents and staff are covered for external access under EES, the only time you have to buy the external connector is if you are offering sharepoint/exchange to those outside the organisation.

The reason some of you aren't hearing the servers any more is that you are probably going deaf on the frequency range of the server fans, quite a common problem when you are exposed to the type of noise servers make.

Students are covered and so are parents, the only time you have to buy an additional CALs for students is if they have a machine dedicated solely for their own use or they are installing software on their home pc.

VLANs won't necessarily solve your problem, you are seeing the effects of a problem, ie network slowdown, without finding the cause of the problem. May I suggest before you do anything you invest some time with Wireshark and figure out what is causing the problem. Shout on here if you need help analysing:)

Got the official ICS update on my S2 last night on Orange. Working rather nicely now after I'd done a factory reset as it was a bit messed up before that.

Download the desktop iso image, you can now do an upgrade from that, much quicker as it only took about half an hour for me to get the iso down.

Hobnobs always start things off in the right direction, a cattle prod is good for keeping things in the right direction. You need to build their trust and confidence in you and build your confidence and authority as their line manager. Give em space and be supportive but make sure they are working for you.

Been there, got the t-shirt, now buy the manufacturers official ones rather than 3rd party. Not all HDD's play well in server RAID systems.

Turning them on is quite difficult though, you can't do it yourself, you have to get someone with a big long pole to do it from behind.

Live@edu is being replaced by Office365 for edu and I understand should be available by the time you're looking at transferring. That has much better sync with ad and some other nice bits. I have to agree about Exchange 2010, it's a monster and can be a complete pita, much preferred our old Exchange 2003.

How does everyone else feel about this going ahead? I think they've made a massive mistake going there and I certainly won't be watching it.

It's basically a Linux installation with Sandbox2 and qemu which allows you to compile and run programs using an emulated ARM processor, it doesn't emulate the hardware of the Raspberry Pi but is still useful. You can set this up on any existing Linux install, instructions for Debian/Fedora/Ubuntu are here, you just skip part 1 of the instructions. This can also be set up under Mac OS as well.

Moved mine to the free version of Google Apps, don't like it as much as Windows Live for Small Business but it does the job.

Yes you can, but the first book is still worth reading as it contains much more detail than the film, which misses out quite a bit from the book.

You know those jobs when you walk into a classroom, teacher panicking because the projector not working and you just do flick the power switch on at the mains, walking out feeling smug and the teacher is a bit embarrassed, I now know how they feel. Today I went to check screen wash was full and oil levels etc in the car, reached down, pulled the bonnet release lever and it came off in my hand. Spent the next 45 minutes trying to get it back on and failed completely. Drove across to the main dealers as the car is still under warranty, mechanic came out, 10 seconds later the release lever is back on, mechanic walks off with a smug grin and I stood there feeling a complete idiot...
