Not that I've ever come across unfortunately. I wondered about a rule in Outlook, but none exists for 'if day()'. Peter

What do you think of Impero? Using it in school very shortly?

Hi. I've already got 13 MFDs across the site which aren't due for renewal until next Summer. I was hoping at that time to replace our remaining local printers (approximately 10-15) with new printers on the same managed contract as the MFDs, but they're rebelling against that plan and all going on strike right now. One died last week and two won't last till Christmas. I've run out of spare stock from those I pulled out when I went MFDs 4 years ago, so I need to do something before next Summer. I'm therefore looking at a separate managed print contract starting now, running on a different period to the MFDs. Does anyone use / can anyone recommend a managed printer contract/supplier for this purpose? Peter

I've realised that as I have two ZoneDirectors linked master/slave, I can generate and apply a new certificate to the slave with correct FQDN, then force them to failover, then repeat on the other unit. All now working. Peter

If I do that, it auto-completes the FQDN (ZD3000.myschool.internal). I just need ZD3000 without the .myschool.internal. Peter

Hi, I'm not sure whether this is doable or not. I'm trying to browse a hardware appliance (Ruckus Zonedirector) from our student WLAN - but when I set it up, I just gave it a name of 'ZD3000' without any domain suffix. I will eventually, during a holiday, rename it but that needs regenerating the certificate so I want to leave that until Christmas. (I'm on a training course all Half Term) I therefore need, if possible, our DNS servers to respond with an IP address when a request comes in for 'ZD3000' - but it is not returning anything. I have tried a static entry in the scope, as well as in our regular and scopes, but none are responding. Is it possible for our internal DNS to return an IP for a non-domain-suffix'd entry? Peter

One sixth former who I believe transferred to us this summer came and warned me that I was running IE as the System user and therefore open to exploits. I'm not, he put two and two together wrongly, but at least he told us instead of trying to exploit it. Peter

Ooh, good to see someone else doing this. We been doing it for three years and the staff love it, but ours is a bespoke solution that isn't easy to share with other schools who want it. Nick is hitting exactly the same problems with non-class codes and cover that we found, and I'm not yet aware of a way other than the HTML files. We don't display cover in exchange - just a PHP page on VLE to reformat the HTML. Peter

Fire up SQL Management Studio and make sure you've got an administrative user account with sufficient privileges that isn't part of your CC4 domain, so when you disjoin and rejoin to the new, you still have access. Did exactly same as you this summer, but from upgraded CC2>3>4>4.3 domain to fresh CC4.5 Matrix. Peter

We don't have helpdesk software/interface, but we've recently opened up our IT email to students and parents. No ill side effects yet. Peter

Just googled the error about long reply times - that seems to be an error that is specific to Exim. All google results mention Exim and a number point to this solution: http://tomyates.co.uk/2012/05/02/exim-retry-time-not-reached-for-any-host-after-a-long-failure-period/ Not sure if it's you or WCC that run Exim but might be worth a try?

That only disables F12 from what I've read - it doesn't remove the inspect element. We have a policy in RM CC4 which says it disables Dev tools for IE8-10 but it doesn't mention 11, though I'm assuming it's the same gpo key. Peter

Our kids are having a whale of a time using this feature to edit pages and screenshot them. Unfortunately one of them has just well and truly crossed the line this morning, turning a heartbreaking story about one of our students into something referring to pornography then distributing it to their peers. Any idea how to disable right-click then 'inspect element'? I used to disable right-click but they need to right-click, save-picture-as. Peter

Just realised you're not using Zero-IT. We use Zero-IT with captive portal, which installs a profile containing the wifi key for the relevant (staff, student, ....) WLAN. THAT's the bit which only works on some devices. How does captive portal work if they're using an internet-based App? Do they have to open internet first to connect (assuming they've timed out)? Peter

Thanks for the reply. We use AD at the moment, but only iPhones and latest Androids work; the rest need manual intervention x 800 students - which is what I'm trying to avoid next week when I turn wifi back on! The APs and ZoneDirector are in 90, staff wifi is 93, guests is 94 and students/BYOD is 96. There's zone bridges in place so 96 can see 90 and vice versa. Peter

Hi Boredguy, I'm still struggling - and becoming a boredguy myself. Would you mind posting (or PM'ing) your Ruckus and Smoothwall setups for this? Should my iPhone be prompting for username/password at the point of joining the wifi, or browsing? I've seen a screenshot of someone using HP wireless and Smoothwall where the iPhone does the prompting at the point of joining the wifi but mine is just joining then giving me no internet access. I'm not getting prompted for username anywhere. I did a wireshark capture on Friday and I could see the challenge request for username being send by Ruckus, but the laptop (Win 7) wasn't giving me an option to provide details; I didn't continue as I don't know if this is to do with the Win 7 / Certificate requirement, so I'd rather get iDevices working first. If I change the IP addresses at either end of the Radius, then the Ruckus test-auth box times out rather than failing auth. I know I can't use the Ruckus test-auth box to test usernames, but at least it implies both boxes are talking to each other. Peter

Ah, that's interesting - and perfectly useless on Ruckus's part! In that case, I'll try testing iPhones and iPads - I didn't bother yet until I could get the test working! Peter
-
This is exactly what I'm after - I've got Ruckus talking to Smoothwall via Radius, but getting 'Failed! Invalid username or password' when testing AAA server auth in Ruckus. SW log shows 'RADIUS authentication failed; username: ######, access point: 192.168.90.251'. Do you just use 'username', 'domain\username', '[email protected]' or something else? Any other ideas which settings need setting? Peter
-
Did you get anywhere on this? I've got Ruckus and Smoothwall talking(*) but getting RADIUS authentication failed like you - this is when testing from ZoneDirector. You say the SW documentation says this is normal - can you point me at this? * if I change the IP address or such, it says timeout failed, so I know it's definitely talking. Our ZoneDirectors and APs are on the same subnet, so they should all talk the same. Peter
-
Cheers Tim. Sounds useful, but not yet knowing ('till I ring you later) what Smoothwall already provides, not sure yet.
