Hi, Do you see the attached image when you hit 'Protect Sheet'? By default, the first two are ticked, but by ticking 'protect format cells' it stops you adjusting the column widths. Peter

When you 'protect sheet', there's an option for what to protect - formula, formatting, etc.

I'm doing it tonight against my better judgement - our exams team booked some live training on some PI stuff that needs the new version. The training happens to be my former boss, so although she can't reprimand me, it would be awkward to say the least! (We get on well!)

If active full is part of job, it will only be retained as long as it is needed. If you've set 62 restore points but never schedule another full, it will never delete the full because it's needed to feed the incrementals. If you set 62 and active every month, it will delete the first active full approximately 3 months later - because ~30 of the incrementals are still based on it. ----- NOTE: Having just written all the above, I've a feeling I'm wrong - I think it's all written based on Forward Incremental, not Reverse Incremental. I'll leave it here for anyone's future reference.

It's local storage - I bought a HP Gen8 server and specced it as high as I could get it. 14 HDDs (12 front, 2 in rear chassis). The rear 2 are raided as C: and D: (200GB and 3.5TB respectively) then the front 12 are raided as E: (33TB) 22GB RAM with room for more as it was planned to run the VMs in DR from it, but I'm getting a Dell VRTX this summer which will run DR instead. My backup store is 33TB. I did one active full two years ago, and synthetic fulls every Friday. As long as nobody suddenly does a lot of videos one day and bumps up the backup size, I usually have 4 fulls on disk plus the intermediates between. The original active full took about 4 days, but it will be nearer 5 now as we've expanded since then. Peter

I'm assuming you're on an Exchange server? We have the various groups for classes, like you - these are generated from Powershell every night. However we don't do 'Teachers of' because it would take a number of hours to loop through everyone, and I don't want another 1700 distribution lists in Exchange. If you wanted to do it, you need a SIMS report that exports to CSV every night (using CommandReporter) and a powershell script that creates (if not exist), empties (rather than deletes, so the GUID stays the same) then populates, each group. Rather than active fulls, why not use synthetic fulls? Best of both worlds - a fresh start point (vbk) so your not forever relying on the initial active full, but only takes a few hours versus a few days.

All that presumably does is logs what they should have been sent - which you can also see in Sent Messages in SchoolComms. It doesn't (I'm guessing) say whether the message was successfully dispatched, which is what I'm usually looking for when a parent hasn't received a message. Has it dispatched? Has it bounced? Has Schoolcomms stopped sending because it's bounced 3 times? Etc?

Sorry, missed this reply. We're not bothered about the odd recipient not receiving messages, so don't need to check delivery status unless I'm tracking down a complaint from a parent. I'll talk with colleagues about making use of the app again now this issue is no longer present.

That's excellent news because it certainly wasn't the case early on when the app was released.

1) But if they've installed the app, either to test or to try it out, but then decide they don't want to use it...? 2) I mean when sending messages - if a user signs up but isn't signed in, they don't get the message by app or SMS.

Can I ask about this - we use Schoolcomms already, but don't advertise the app. 1) Is it possible yet to remove a parent from the app list if they decide they don't want to use it? 2) Can you detect if the person is signed into the app yet? Our very first test of using the app was to our staff, telling them we'd be closed on 31st February. Anyone who didn't receive it had to report to us so we could check their details. My technician and my Headmaster never received it - my technician had signed up for the app for testing purposes but signed out and deleted the app because he didn't want to use it long-term, and my headmaster wasn't signed into the app. Needless to say I didn't have much praise for the system from two key people that day! My colleague came back from a training course with the impression it was due imminently - this was nearly 3 weeks ago.

You only need 80 and 443 open externally - I'm surprised if any business ISP struggles with those. 8450 or whatever it is is only needed internally for editing settings.

At home I ditched Pinnacle last year after years of hating it and it eventually crashing my project and having to start again (the save version wouldn't open). Now using Cyberlink Powerdirector and amazed at what I've been missing out on. At school, I'm monitoring this thread with interest - I've been asked to replace Movie Maker, but not sure what I'm going with yet. I use Serif Pageplus day-in, day-out at home and school so I'll certainly look at them. Peter

Having thought further, we used to use LA for HR and Payroll until this time last year when we brought Payroll in house. LA uses an awful Citrix VPN connection which I used to get called to regularly, but haven't been for a while, which is why I don't think we use them for HR any more. I will ask the Payroll software people if they have any facility for this - they mention 'Holiday management' on their features list on the website, but I can't see anything in the support site about end-users requesting leave etc within it. We're an Academy with everything in house. I have access to the support site for our Payroll (not HR) package which doesn't mention anything like this. We don't have a dedicated HR package - SIMS does the staff employment & history etc, Payroll does the money side of it including overtime and leave history for the purposes of calculating pay.
