We were in exactly the same position as you at 4pm last night! However, although we use the WinXP/7 build disks, we do have the Win8 disks available in RMMC, so I added one of those to our PXE server. Do you not have the Win8/WinPE 4.0 build disk showing in RMMC > Computers > Build > Build Disks? I thought everyone could build Win8, regardless of whichever OS your servers are running at? Peter

Bought a 2013 Leaf a fortnight ago, alongside my diesel (Peugeot Partner-Tepee). Plan is to keep it 3 years then trade both in for something bigger, by which time bigger batteries will hopefully have become the norm - hence why I'm watching folk like Tesla get 215 mile range. Current fuel equivalent looking like £10 per month electric vs £50 diesel, but with the caveat that my commute is 12 minutes of mountainous hills so I don't get the economy that others would get.

I seem to recall it was something daft like disk space on the server or the clients? Peter

We looked at both when we started with GAFE. Circa £25k off top of my head... Our head isn't bothered about backing up GAFE anyway, it was me pushing us to do it as a necessity, but then decided to wait for Google Vault which was supposedly (and possibly has) come along for Edu customers to allow retrieval of deleted GAFE docs (not just email retention etc as it started off at). We actually do neither and have only once in 18 months lost a file that we couldn't retrieve - a bug with shared users deleting a shared users file from a moved-folder or something weird - neither the owner nor the deleter could see the file in their bin. You have two options. If you're backing up your VM backups to tape, they will be written to the tape as backup files. In order to restore file-level from these, you need to restore the backup file onto disk, then restore the required file from it. If you're backing up files-to-tape, you can browse the tapes and restore file-level from them. I have both; my backups are on tape as backup files, but I've also file-level backups of various files/folders that I want quicker access to such as SIMS backups. Peter

Student Sorting Kit: Student Sorting Kit Used it alongside our normal process two years ago, then used it on its own last year. It is only an Excel Spreadsheet, but don't be fooled by that - it is very good. Depending how picky you are, it will either do the whole lot for you, or you can get it to say 90% then start moving people around yourself. Based on intake school, KS results, language preference, gender, friends, foes and anything else you can quantify. Peter

The option is there in current SIMS but it's turned off by default. Tools > Data Change Management I think.

Hi Steve, For example (and I know this one can be done because Richard confirmed it in the email) our student usernames are their admission no, our staff usernames are their Initial.Surname UNLESS the UDF 'AD Username' is filled in, in which case use that, and our parents in a completely different OU are Forename.Surname up to 20 characters UNLESS the UDF is filled in. I haven't asked if Salamander can email me if a duplicate username already exists (eg parents called Jane Smith) in which case I need to go into SIMS and add the custom username. Though thinking as I type, I suspect SIMS write-back could probably auto increment this for me and write it back.... Can Salamander process mid-year students or staff before their academic/employment start date, so their accounts are ready when they start? (Not thinking of pre-admissions/new intakes). Currently our staff mailboxes are done via CSV/powershell - but this doesn't happen until their start date, so they can't use email until the following day. Peter

Hi, Whenever I try and use the mention button, I always end up with just an @ symbol, but without the name/link to the person I mentioned. I have to go to the users profile and find their ID, then edit my post to say (mention=1234)username(/mention) to make it work. (Incorrect brackets intentionally used here) Surely this isn't right? Hi, We're looking at Salamander AD and I've been corresponding with Richard (@RPWillis) and he's giving me a ring today. I know the product is good from all the glowing reports from users on here, including ideas of what they use it for. What I can't see because it's not yet available - and I think Richard is going to do some work on this - is screenshots or diagrams of what configuration is available. Not just "we can import all your SIMS people into AD" but examples of what fields/combinations/filters can be applied to this or similar imports (GAFE, Exchange), for example. Does anyone have some screenshots of their config that they could PM me, obviously anonymised and without revealing any of Salamanders corporate property to the whole world, so I can get a feel for that side of it? Or even just talk me through particularly complex examples you've got that Salamander has been able to deal with? Peter

I'm watching this thread with interest. I drive cars like Renault Kangoo / Peugeot Partner Tepee / Citroen Berlingo. Was seriously looking at the electric Kangoo 2 years ago, but it's van only - I do often carry passengers. I hadn't looked at any leasing though; was outright purchase with bank loan I looked at. Hoping electric versions of above might hit market by summer 2017 when this ones paid off. (Peugeot at moment)
