Ooh, that's some very powerful logging you got there! I've not found the logging in this area before; it's about to tell me how many times per day every PC in school was logged on in November, which I can then filter in Excel to determine average usage of each ICT Suite. (So I can decide which one to close this summer - mwahahaha!) Peter

Another user asked this in a private subforum yesterday. Here's my reply to him: No. Verifying it just proves you own it - usually by adding a TXT record to the domain something like "Google=abdcef123456" that Google can test exists. Only the authorised owner will have been able to create that record. (If your domain is still with NYCC then you need the Cirrus team to do it for you) I can't definitively answer this. I wouldn't think so, as long as you're not intending using drive.schooldomain.com as your domain for GAFE; if you stay with drive.google.com/a/schooldomain.com and disable the mail app for your GAFE users you *should* be ok. But I don't use Office 365 so I don't know if that has any impact on the matter. Peter

At the time of writing, I believed my reply to be true. If you're referring to Device VPP, that feature has only arrived at AirWatch this week and I wasn't previously aware of it. If you're referring to anything else, please do share your superior knowledge instead of posting completely unhelpful replies.

You cannot install any apps on the iPad until the iPad is signed into a working iTunes/App Store account, whether the device is DEP'd or not. (That's not the case for profiles - you can put those on any time - just apps that don't work due to Apple's core rule that doesn't let apps be installed without iTunes) If the account pre-exists, all you need to do is sign into it. If it doesn't pre-exist, it needs to have billing details, be verified, and T&Cs confirmed.

Not until you have signed into iTunes, no. Once you have signed into iTunes, reviewed the T&C's (if it's a new account) and added billing details (either card details or 'None'), then yes you can deploy apps and they just pop up immediately. Apple really need to sort out a mechanism for realising that the device isn't (yet) signed into iTunes - they send all apps immediately once the device is configured, so you get a dozen prompts to sign into iTunes - you've to cancel them all, but they don't then re-prompt; you've to go into LS and re-push them. I thought the same to start with. On the DEP portal, you need to click on 'Mr_Jiminy' at the top right, then 'Institution Details'. In here is your "DEP Customer ID". You need to give that ID to the reseller where you bought your iPads from and ask them to add your order(s) to that DEP account. (They can add old orders as well) You also need their DEP Reseller ID(s), which you need to add to your account in the same place. Once they submit your orders to Apple, you will get an email (on your DEP account) saying they're submitted/processing/available - they will then appear on the DEP portal. You can then click 'Order No', and start typing letters until you guess correctly what the order number begins with (mine starts "S" and bears no resemblance to the order number, invoice number, PO number or anything else on any materials I have - I guess it's the resellers order no with Apple, not ours with the reseller) However it should auto-assign the serial no's to your first MDM server so you shouldn't need to assign them at all - they should automatically appear in Lightspeed's console. One thing to note - do not ever 'Disown' a serial number unless you really are disowning it - you can never add it back again if you do! Peter

You don't need to on any normal network layout. The device goes to Apple, detects the external IP address, tells you to go and look for $internal_ip_address_instead and the iPad trundles off to the internal IP. Peter

I can't speak for Lightspeed specifically, but it looks to match our Airwatch environment pretty much the same. We use one Airwatch certificate that we uploaded to the DEP portal (deploy.apple.com) which gives you a token to download back into Airwatch. In Airwatch we have four groups - staff, loans, students and sixth form. The one single cert/token is used at "Top Level" as it calls it. Apple assigns all DEP devices automatically to our one MDM server (Airwatch) then it's up to Airwatch what happens with them - by default they appear in the 'Students' group and get that DEP profile, but we can move them before we dish out iPads. Once the device is setup, it gets the relevant DEP profile automatically (unavoidable) and then assigns further, regular profiles and apps as per Airwatch's configuration. Peter

Meraki is free for MDM, so if you're used to it and it works for you then carry on with it. It used to be very slow for us as we added quantities, but has been back to what it should be since iOS 9 came out. Peter

As another option, I just bought Dell VRTX with 4 good hosts and storage for £18k. We're running VMware Essentials on 3 of the hosts, and using 4th for Veeam SureBackup etc, but you could put HyperV on them.

I'd agree with Dave here. At church I have a DMX dongle that I intend using with software for small requirements such as Christmas Eve services or for testing/rigging as our lighting desk is locked away when not in use. (Currently Frog, but shortly FLX) But for school events, I couldn't rely on software. We used to use a SmartFade ML in our old hall which we've still got. Our new build theatre three years ago, we bought ETC Element (part of the Ion series). It's great for the three folk that use it regularly. With the launch of the Zero88 FLX earlier this year, I was seriously looking at changing the school desk - until I accidentally came across some new features on the Element that actually answer my issues with it - and prove that if I took time to learn it, it could work very well for the occasional users as well as the regulars. (If you're wondering, I kept getting stuck with channels up from previous user that I couldn't find the source for, which meant I couldn't give users a step by step solution to walk up and operate. I've now made a macro that clears all channels regarding of source, which allows occasional users a three button process.)

We had one made for launch this September. Currently it is homework only, but we're adding behaviour, attendance, SPM reports etc between now and next Summer. Our SIMS server is VM, so backed up that way, but our NAS and phone system are still physical - I use Veeam Endpoint on them, but with B&R as their target. I can monitor them and view their history in B&R, I just can't configure them.
