DfE Connecting the Classroom project funding
atcoates replied to password1234's topic in Wireless Networks
You can make a case for using your own preferred Wi-Fi and switching but it needs to meet the DFE criteria.... Connect the Classroom What DfE Fund Under the Programme: Scope of Works The purpose of the funding is to ensure that the school has a high-quality wireless network, based on the latest standards, giving full coverage to the site and able to operate effectively because suitable switching is in place. DfE aim to ensure the school has a system that will have a very long working life and provide for high-density usage within the classroom. Connect the Classroom includes: · Equipment covered by, as a minimum, a five-year manufacturer’s warranty. · WiFi 6 Certified Wireless Access Points (WAP) able to cover the campus. This can include external provision where one is already in place. · Switching that: o Provides a multi-gig connection to each WAP. o Includes either core switch(es) set up to have redundancy, or stacked edge switches (which would be more appropriate for a smaller site). It is not a requirement of the DfE Output Specification (OS) that all ports on all switches be PoE and multi-gig. DfE will not approve projects with an all-PoE or all-multi-gig switch solution when lower cost units would meet the school requirement. · Licenses to allow for a minimum of five years of operation for the switches and WAPs provided. Some manufacturers offer SKUs that give ten years of licensing for the cost of five years to projects in the CtC scheme (see SKUs and Pricing below). -

With a 10 year Meraki license for the APs, if after 6-7 years new technologies have evolved you can replace the old AP with a new one and the license will transfer to the new one automatically if you remove the old one from the dashboard. with the switches you could just extend the licenses. We couldn't afford to replace it all in one go either so something like this allows you to start replacing earlier or at least planning. Also, who's to say the DFE won't repeat the whole process in 10 years? The big companies on this scheme, Cisco, Cisco-Meraki, and Aruba will all be trying to make sure you stay with them and no doubt will have potential offers so you stay with them for another 10 years. -
You can install the software and when it opens you get the option to "Always open in basic mode" that's what you want. That might be configurable in their deployment tool.

Our LA has been chosen and we have been advised to expect the emails in Jan/Feb 2023. -
I think there is no limit on the number of devices, the limit is on the number of students. So if you license 20 staff you'd get 300 student licenses as each staff member covers 15 students. You get these for staff MS CSP Intune for Education for Faculty These for students (but are free) MS CSP Intune for Education for Students

We use Ricoh across all my schools. Very few issues and the schools are really happy with the service.

We had the same issue yesterday. Arbor are testing with a few sites at the moment, we are one of those sites after half term so I imagine it's going to be available pretty soon.

Should Mosyle auto update apps on the iPads?
atcoates replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in Cloud Services
Yes, Meraki Dashboard it's a tick next to the specific app to allow it to auto-update so I'm sure Moysle must have that feature. Google says https://manager.mosyle.com/solutions/ios/appinstall -
You looked at Microsoft Planner or monday.com?

We got hundreds of Ipads and have saved my schools a fortune in replacement costs. We've not allocated any out to pupils, we just used them in house to support all pupils.

This would go to my teenage son who was most disappointed with the Nvidia G210 I got him for gaming!!! -
We got another set of devices allocated. Worth checking the site every day. Currently Dell 3190. Yesterday was 14" HPs.

We're all Meraki across my sites.

Apple just replaced ours under Warranty and they arranged collection and delivery from our school. We just initiated a chat with apple support and they sorted it. They also added the replacement into our DEP account. We used the Mail-In repair service.

If you get a quote from dell themselves the screens should be closer to £170. Dell's website prices are always ridiculous.

I've done it at a few of my sites and had only one minor issue with one user. I was expecting a flood of helpdesk calls but we had nothing. Worth testing for a few users first of course.
