Depending where your student home folders / downloads are use file server resource manager to block certain file extensions from being saved in their home folders? Works for me I stop students from saving any executable files. Using this method if they tried to rename .DOC to something else like .exe they would just get access denied.

If you're wanting simple Mosyle is the way to go in my opinion. It does sound like Logic Pro will need to be purchased again or it could be a legacy program facilitator account in which case you can send an invite to join ASM. Invite Volume Purchase Programme Purchasers to Apple School Manager, Apple Business Essentials or Apple Business Manager – Apple Support (UK)

Without knowing all of the details it sounds like * The MSP is using ProfileManager which is now unsupported and really isnt very good. * Correct me if im mistaken here but it sounds like Logic Pro was purchased using a personal Apple ID? Is this correct? * Could the Macs be bound to AD? So if you havent already sign up for Apple School Manager. You will then need a decent MDM. I would recommend either JAMF or Mosyle. For authentication its worth looking at either JAMF connect or Mosyle Auth and ditch binding them to AD completely.

Unfortunately we won’t know how badly EA have impacted the game until after release when all the reviews are out. This is usually when they add in all the micro transactions. F1 life looks like a gold mine for monetisation. I will likely still be getting it I just don’t agree with the business model at all. With the announcement from the FIA recently and the disappointment that is GT7 I will likely be moving to Assetto Corsa Competizione for my sim racing fix.

Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) to be retired on 15 June 2022
tmoon-mint replied to Arthur's topic in IT News
I suspect the June cumulative update will at the very least disable it just like MS did with Flash player when that went EOL. -
Moved everyone off WSUS and onto Windows update for business / Update compliance last year... With the requirements for update compliance changing and this it looks like I might be moving back again.

Totally disagree with this take for a few reasons. I would hardly call a choice between £80,000 or 10 years of game time to complete tame but even if it was it still doesnt make it right and regulation on this sort of thing cannot come soon enough. Sadly with any game that has any form or micro transactions in (even full priced console/PC releases) the games economy and in game mechanics will always be balanced around it to try and force players to become payers. Sure there are lots of people myself included that have the willpower to say no to these tactics but there are also many many people vulnerable to gambling like mechanics and addiction that dont. If a game is banned in the Netherlands and Belgium you know its bad because this usually means the publisher has refused to publish the odds for their "lootboxes" which is because the odds are woefully low and anti consumer.

EU agrees directive that will force Apple to change iPhone charging port
tmoon-mint replied to elsiegee40's topic in IT News
No reason at all. In fact lightning still runs at USB 2.0 speeds so like you said waaaaaay overdue. -
I have been having a play around with it but I don't really see a reason to upgrade yet. Besides that half of our computers don't officially support it!

Mosyle Manager with Mosyle Auth might be the way to go as an alternative to Jamf. Jamf is one of the best MDMs on the market though. Mosyle Manager - macOS Identity Management Unified Apple MDM & Security - Mosyle Manager

EU agrees directive that will force Apple to change iPhone charging port
tmoon-mint replied to elsiegee40's topic in IT News
It will be interesting to see the reaction if they do switch to USB C. I remember the uproar that came when Apple switched from the 30 pin connector to Lightning with the iPhone 4! -
Apple Announces The Apple Silicon M1: The end of x86?
tmoon-mint replied to flyinghaggis's topic in Mac
I based it on the Surface Laptop 4 which I would say is the closest you will get to a Macbook Air in the Microsoft lineup. Both are around the £900 mark. -
Apple Announces The Apple Silicon M1: The end of x86?

Since an equivalent Microsoft Surface is a similar price to the M1 Macbook Air I wouldnt say this was exclusively an Apple thing. -
Apple Announces The Apple Silicon M1: The end of x86?
tmoon-mint replied to flyinghaggis's topic in Mac
Looking at the price point I was disappointed that the base model wasnt 512GB storage and 16GB RAM to be honest. I am looking at upgrading my 2015 Macbook Pro which has seen better days. Looking at sticking with the M1 model which is quite a bit cheaper. I have used an M1 Mac Mini and it had all the performance I need. -

UPGRADE Azure AD Connect before September 2022!
tmoon-mint replied to psydii's topic in Cloud Services
In place upgrade of Azure AD Connect is super easy and takes 10 minutes max. For any servers that were on 2012R2 I just built a new VM, backed up the current configuration and then imported it into the new installation but kept it in staging mode. Once I was happy that the configurations were identical I enabled staging mode on the old server and disabled it on the new one. -
Edit: Sorry completely misread your post. Havent had my coffee yet Strange.

What version of Windows 10 are you running? I run fully on Windows 10 Education and havent been prompted even without this setting in place. Im assuming that OP has some Windows 10 Pro devices.
-
You need this policy set if you dont already. If you dont specify Windows 10 then users will be prompted to upgrade.
-
I set a target feature update version rather than using the deferral method. Seems to work fine for me plus it has the side benefit of supressing any Microsoft nagging users to upgrade to Windows 11.

For me Windows 10 Version 21H2 shows up as Windows 10.0 (19043)

Securly and Lightspeed were the alternatives offered. I purely went with Senso because of the miniscule deadline I had been given to get something sorted and they offered me a free trial to cover the christmas holidays. Filtering at home on managed Chromebooks (edugeek.net) The support was very good and it was super easy to get setup.

Very much the same experience as Ironside. I remember those laptops where the hinges would snap. One other thing I will mention is that the onsite warranty support from Stone if you do have any issues really is excellent.
