Looks like January windows updates are causing all sorts of issues..

I heard stopping the Netlogon service stops the reboots. Havent tested it myself but unplugging it from the network entirely meant it stayed up long enough to remove the patch. -

Thats strange because the DC I had that was rebooting constantly was Server 2016. I think I will install them this weekend and then be prepared for angry phone calls Monday morning -

I think I need to do a risk assessment on whether applying these patches is worth it or if I should just wait until the February cumulative update. I dont like the idea of being unpatched for a month but at the same time we need to be operational! -

The date of the revision says the 11/01/2022 which was the original release date so I would say no. If it wasnt for the vulnerabilities it patches I would be waiting for the February ones. -
The iPads must support at least iOS 11 to be added to DEP (ASM) using Apple configurator. Enrollment URLs for Mosyle depend on how you have it configured. If you're using shared tablet carts this would be under My School > Shared tablet carts You can get the enrollment URL for use in AC2 by going to My School > Enrollment > Apple Configurator 2

All of the ones that kept rebooting were domain controllers yes. -
Might not be a Hyper-V or domain controller?

Can confirm cleaning up the softwaredistribution folder will sort this. Also if your servers are pending a restart then wusa /uninstall /kb:5009624 (Or the one for whichever serverOS you're on) should take care of it. I havent had any servers failing to boot so far only had them rebooting every 20 minutes or so. -
Have you tried running the update troubleshooter?

Get help with technology programme - how to claim?

I am fairly sure it does cover the cost of MDM licences as well. -
Staff Personal Mobiles using school apps

We use 365 but also enforce enrollment in Intune before you can access Outlook/Onedrive etc. Remote wipe and force the user to have a pin. -
Do you use Applocker? If you turn this off temporarily do the icons start working again?

Get help with technology programme - how to claim?
tmoon-mint posted a topic in How do you do....it?
Hi all, My school would like to make a claim for the costs incurred setting up their latest DFE allocation of devices as per this link: Get help with technology programme: conditions of device grants for technical support - GOV.UK (http://www.gov.uk) Not sure if im just being really stupid but I cant see how you actually make a claim. The link above tells you what you can claim for but not how to do it. Has anyone done this for their school and if so how? Thanks. -
Thank you for this. Some really useful advice here that I will be taking on board going forward. Just a quick question on abandoned tickets. What would you say is best practice when dealing with them? At the moment I will chase it up 3 times and then close the ticket with an explanation that I am closing it due to inactivity however they can respond to the email to reopen the ticket again. Would you say this is acceptable or do you handle things a different way?

Im not really sure what it is. I have put shortcuts on desktops to the online form, provided the ability to log a ticket via a specific email address for if they're on mobile, handed out and stuck up posters in the staff room etc with all the details on how to log a ticket. Spoken to SLT and they are on board with it so I guess I need them to really push and enforce it. What I could do is maybe run a report every week on tickets and send that to the head. That way if its looking very empty they know that tickets arent being logged.

Hi all, I am working in a primary and I have a serious problem getting staff to log tickets on the helpdesk. Every member of staff has been provided with the details to do so and I have made it as easy as possible to log a ticket (either an online form or by emailing). If I go round school and ask staff directly (which I am trying to avoid due to COVID) there is plenty of work to be done but they just dont log a ticket. What more can I do? I have already stated that I must insist that they log a ticket and if someone just catches me in the corridor I say to them "please log a ticket" but it just doesnt happen. The problem is if I stand my ground and dont work on anything unless they log a ticket then no work gets done because they dont or I get fed up and log one on their behalf. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Anything you have implemented to ensure staff log tickets or something I could be doing differently to encourage tickets being logged.

I was tasked with exactly this just before Christmas and went for Senso. Would highly recommend it was super straight forward to setup and their support was fantastic. They even gave me a trial key and we will probably be purchasing once this runs out. - - - Updated - - - Senso.cloud | Cloud-Based Remote IT Monitoring and Management

We already use Office 365 but it is free to create one if you dont already. Weirdly enough when setting up update compliance I did need to put in credit card details to set it up in Azure however I have never been charged for anything.

Switched from WSUS to Windows update for business with update compliance last year. Since changing I havent had a single problem with updates. This is what I used to setup update compliance: Get started with Update Compliance - Windows Deployment | Microsoft Docs Windows update for business: Windows Update for Business - Windows Deployment | Microsoft Docs

Basic Mosyle iPad enrolment question.
tmoon-mint replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in How do you do....it?
You can just move them either from within Mosyle or in the Mosyle app on the iPad itself. Only time they would change back is during auto enrolment so if you needed to reset them for any reason.- 1 reply

Filtering at home on managed Chromebooks

All setup using Senso. Very quick and easy to setup. Thank you @colly72 I am very pleased with the result. Now that I have a solution in place I feel much better handing them out to the children. Thank you everyone for your help and advice. As always Edugeek is the place to come when you're having a stress. -

I know its incredibly short notice and stressing me out. These are to be used for online lessons so I suspect they will be restricted to school accounts only with content filtering always in force. That is down to the school to decide though and either way parents must know what to expect as you say. The christmas holidays cant come soon enough.
