Can anyone tell me the deal here? I'm just looking in all the places I can think of but all I find are amazing adverts and no instructions on how to download etc. Are Config and Profile manager two different products I think? I have 'bought' configurator on the VPP store (it was free) and they've emailed me a receipt which tells me it's now available to distribute - but I can't figure out how to download it to the macbook I'm using. Then I just don't know where to find Profile manager? Do I download it? If so - where from? Thanks guys...!!!!

Serial number logging - cable tying mice / keyboards etc to machines? Toner recycling...!

I second this - things can seem really easy the first time you're shown, but if you don't do it again for 6 months, it's easily forgotten.

Welcome! I was in your position nearly two years ago. I haven't had any official training but have been very lucky that my boss and other tech are both very clever at their jobs and always have time to show me how to do things and explain stuff. I actually like the 'little' jobs sometimes, the teachers really appreciate it and puts you in their good books!

perhaps some sort of tablet, not on the domain, but for her to have as her own. It doesn't sound like she will get much done in the way of essays etc due to all the typing so there are probably lots of apps which will have a good education base which she will be able to use easier?

That's awful! How thoughtless, all the work and money that will cost to be put right, if it doesn't just get left. What a shame.

I got... Tropico 4 Collector's Bundle, Prison Architect and Banished. Have been hooked on Prison Architect over the weekend... I did have a lot more in my basket, but I already have a pile of codes that I haven't used yet, so made myself transfer them to my wishlist instead... @nephilim - what's Europa like? that's one I transferred to wishlist.

Cant do anything. Although a moment ago (whilst I was typing this thread) I had closed it and put it on my knee under the desk, a bit of a squeeze and when I opened it it was booting Windows. However, when I rebooted it did the same again and I can't get it to boot again. Going to check the keyboard connection incase it thinks a key is being held down or something...?

When I turn it on, the black screen has 'Press esc to enter startup menu' in the bottom left corner. It won't get past this. If I press esc, it changes the message to 'Press esc to pause' - but it doesn't do anything. If I hit F10 at start up, it shows the option in the corner, but again, does nothing. The hard drive seems to be starting, and I've tried without the hard drive and the problem is the same. I've tried removing the memory and when I do that and start, it doesn't beep, but it starts, although the screen remains off in that scenario (keyboard is lit up however). At a bit of a loss as to what to try next!

Is it based more to the 'teacher' side of things, or is the management side quite detailed?

I think they are big step forward in technology, perhaps a stepping stone to something better though. But that has made me laugh @Fleetwood because that is what will happen!

Thanks @Sibrows - I'm just taking a look at that now you've mentioned it. I hadn't really considered it as everyone else always speaks of other MDM solutions, and never Apples, so I had actually assumed they either didn't have one, or it was rubbish.

Thanks @Sibrows So in our situatiuon, I think that Managed Distribution would be best as we obviously want to keep the apps for the use with future students etc. Thanks for the info on Meraki too. Is there another MDM I could try? The thing is, we will probably end up going down the paid route ultimately anyway, but I don't want to 'waste' the 30 day free trial most of them offer just whilst we are getting to grips with what we are actually doing.

So I have just signed up with Meraki. Long term plan is each student has their own iPad (not set in stone yet, but the potential of), but this means they will own the device and it will have their own apple ID. So for now, I just have the one iPad here for testing purposes. Is there a way using Meraki, or another MDM solution which allows you to push out apps etc without needing to know the devices apple ID?

Yeah- lots of kids are using things such as instagram and snapchat more, as their parents are all on Facebook so it isn't 'cool' anymore.

What is the difference? Is Airserver what you install on the machine, and Airplay what is used to display from iPad to monitor? (or onwards to projector). How easy is this to set up school wide? Has anyone done it? Thanks

Thanks @Shadow_Walker - that is very useful. We are now looking more into a 1:1 situation but will still need most of this as we will have to have spares etc.

How long ago was it? I dropped my iPhone in water recently and the screen was a mess (although it was in the water a lot less time than a full washing cycle!) but after a few days - nearly a week - it was nearly back to normal. But it wasn't completely black so that's maybe not helpful! My OH just replaced his iPhone screen with parts bought on eBay and it seems fine. But you can't buy original apple parts I don't think - only if you pay a 'proper' company to do it. (Not sure how helpful this was actually?!)
