The DfE bulletin this afternoon confirmed LFD test to be done evening /morning before return in January and then twice per week. There are no school related obligations for LFD tests during the break.

It looks like our LA are miffed! This is the message we got today, it's most unusual for Suffolk CC to get animated about anything not directly related to Ed Sheeran. And before anyone says it - Yes, most of us *are* directly related to Ed, at least that's what we claim.

I use the "Student Analysis by Attendance Code" report to get similar figures. This report will not include X codes but will take into account absences due to X codes when it calculates the Possible Number of sessions. Export to a spreadsheet for easier manipluation.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I know there are GDPR considerations with SIMS; my query was what GDPR considerations are preventing them providing SIMS Next Gen via our existing LA contract?

We got our Clarity For The Future email last night but as we're a maintained school there are some differences. In a section entitled Next Steps it says This means we can continue with our annual licensing and buy some time to make the change, if we decide to change. I urge other maintained schools to check this out with their LA, if you've not already done so. Later in the message the section called SIMS Next Gen it says Line one - You will not get access to SIMS Next Gen via the LA when (if) that is released Line two - We're discussing with your LA access to SIMS Next Gen at no extra cost Line three - You can only get SIMS Next Gen via direct agreement with ESS And what are the GDPR implications on a system that already holds so much personal data? So much nonsense in three little sentences

I read 15.6 as:- During the three year initial term we will increase prices at a maximum of 2.5%+CPIH At the end of the initial term, or the end of a renewal term, we can give you 120 days notice of an increase greater than 2.5%+CPIH; if the customer wishes to do so they can terminate at this point. There doesn't seems to be anything in here about get out early clauses :-(

We had a message from the LA this morning stating "as an LA maintained school we ask you continue to renew via us on a yearly basis" - it'll be interesting to see how this pans out. AFAIK, we haven't been appoached directly but the message also says "...ESS asking schools to sign a 3-year contract directly with themselves, rather than via the LA for SIMS.net and FMS licences"

I agree, just a log of communication - and then only when it is told to do this. Nothing about payments is tranferred to SIMS.

Pupil Premium is calculated once per year - and then it is a financial year *not* academic year. PP is paid from April based on the status of pupils in January (moving to October this year). At this point in September there is no such thing as 2021/22 pupil premium, figures will be collected in the October census and the premium payments calculated thereafter (date not yet confirmed) for payment from April 2022. If you want to *forecast* what that payment will be you need to adjust the 2020/21 figures by removing any leavers (mainly Y11 who left in June) and adding in any new arrivals (mainly Y7 who arrived in September).

We've had an "all fixed" message this morning.

TPTB have raised the idea of providing students with a means of keeping memories about their school life in a "scrapbook". This might include things like trips, positive feedback events, life-lessons from pastoral events etc. etc. etc.. Does anyone else have such a thing in place? We're an O365 school so initial thoughts are for OneNote as a medium to record items, but how to store / categorise / share / control this? Any ideas and pointers welcome. Thanks

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that the school was the *source* of the outbreak, just that the reported increase in cases locally is in line with the number of cases at the school. This could down to good testing at the school and little to none in the local community.

Local population is around 115,000 so 65/100,000 is about 80 cases - it seems likely that the school is causing the increase, not the other way round.

Oh, a data question In the past week or so the number of daily cases is starting to plateau at around 10,000 cases per day and the infection rate is stabilising around 115 per 100,000 With approximately 3.4 million pupils in secondary school and 6th Form that's around 4000 cases based on the assumption that the rate in those age groups is reflective of the whole population. Of course, some of these cases will be being detected already but I can't get a handle on the scale of this. If we see cases increase by 20-30% my interpretation would be that this is just a result of the additional testing in schools. If it increases by more than this then I would suspect the return to schools has caused an increase in prevelance of the virus. If the scientists have got their sums right, I predict we will see a 10-20% increase in cases for a week or two then numbers start to drift down again. No, the students turn up in a pre-arranged order and get tested. Only when they have a -ve test do they get released to the classroom. Two further in school tests follow, then they are let loose with "home testing". We've got nearly 2000 students to test, three times each. We will do it but it's going to take a lot of planning and a lot of staff support.
