  1. RE: The Flex machines... I was about to reply to say yes, but then I remembered it's actually the very same Flex Mini case but used by another popular school supplier for their Flex Minis. We had a few on delivery where the rear I/O panels were placed incorrectly and fell out so we had to remove the motherboards and refit them to get them to stay in. We sent photos and explained the error and they said they were happy to send an engineer to fix the problem themselves if we wanted to (not worth it for the ones we had). That was a different company, but if you contacted ZooStorm they would probably oblige? General build and quality is pretty good (except for the larger Aspect machines from a few years ago where the metal is so thin I don't think they're fit for a lot of schools and get bent). I would guess if there were any build/assembly issues with the Beam they would oblige too.
  2. Not gonna lie, I'd give my partner my gaming PC for work and keep this
  3. We had this happen on a PC with LTSC installed. Even after OS reinstall, graphics driver changes, adobe reinstalls, it kept cropping up. Hasn't come back since swapping the PC to 21H2.
  4. Manhunt by Gretchen Felker-Martin (a writer I really enjoy and have been following for a while, I used her as a provocative source for a media analysis piece on r*pe-revenge movies I did last year), a gory trans horror novel about an apocalypse where anyone with male levels of testosterone has turned into a rampaging monster, the culture war that surrounds it and the trans people trying to survive. Nearly halfway through and it's brilliant. Biting satire and top notch horror.
  5. We've been recommending the IPEVO V4K cameras and use one in our office when needed.
  6. Mapped this out for you. Left side of the map is the standard assembly setup: Rode Wireless Go 2 with audio through the Canon Legria HF G50 camera, to HDMI out to the ATEM Mini which is connected to a dedicated PC for streaming via OBS. (No delay on audio as through the camera) For larger events with more microphones needed we can either connect handheld/lapel radio mics (or our XLR lectern microphone) to our larger 32 channel mixer that we used for live events, or the 16R rackmount mixer that's controlled via the presonus software, audio delay configured in OBS. MistServer Free version used for our internal livestream server. Cameras are around £800 ea. Rode mics around £250 for the two + accessories. ATEM Mini was around £250, but stock can wildly vary at the moment. Everything else major was existing owned from when we did live events/assemblies or repurposed.
  7. We've swapped to doing all of our events and daily assemblies via livestream, and invested £2-3k in equipment combined with what we already had for live events. I can send you our equipment list/specs if that would help? In short it's a combination of smaller wireless mics going via cameras on an HDMI switcher for assemblies, which can then be upgraded to using an existing mixer and software through OBS if higher quality audio or more than 2 mics are needed.
  8. Used to have a mare with them for printers, so have some details stored: Phone they currently list: 0343 90 37766 The number I used to call for printers to get to the customer interaction centre for technical support was 0871 423 7766. Email may not be monitored as it's a helpdesk: [email protected]
  9. http://images.pcmac.org/Uploads/ThatcherSD/ThatcherSD/Departments/DocumentsSubCategories/Documents/Common_Promethean_Board_Problems_Troubleshooting_Quick_Guide.pdf I'd reinstall the drivers and software to be sure it's not something there, but is anything physical (dirt, paper hanging near the board, etc.) triggering the icon on the top left of the board? Didn't think it did so without the pen though.
  10. Very much this. My role in lockdown adapted quite heavily. We saw that virtual services were going to become more frequent so I spent my time working from home learning to become a more proficient video editor and doing video production. We spent weeks researching and £2k+ on equipment on return to facilitate this. Definitely not something they can just throw you into without giving you the resources or time to adapt to achieve a semi-professional outcome.
  11. We purchased the Canon Legria HF G50 when schools first reopened because it was basically the only decent thing under 1K that had a clean HDMI out for livestreaming in stock for months. Works pretty well - we have been doing all of our services and assemblies remotely with it for some months paired with wireless microphones. Example: For a "School show" you may struggle with low light.
  12. Should come just in time for my birthday - saves me bringing in chocolate
  13. If this happens again, we contact Apple directly. In most cases I don't even attempt to get the staff to remember their passwords (lost cause!) or reset it prior to bringing it to me. I reset it until it's stuck on activation lock, then contact Apple with our Proof of Purchase and they reset it for me usually within a day or two. As long as you have a POP with the serial on it (may need to get this from your supplier if your records don't have it) and they'll do this for you.
  14. Sincerely hope this doesn't affect the future of the Legendary Monsterverse. Love those films
  15. You can pick any week out of 2020 and find an anti-zoom article from a respected tech source, and this is probably the top one this week... https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2020/11/zoom-lied-to-users-about-end-to-end-encryption-for-years-ftc-says/
  16. We considered switching to them in 2017, but they spammed us with cold calls which is against our policies for suppliers so binned them off.
  17. Will this service include used toner cartridges, or just electrical equipment?
  18. Bought myself an Oasis last month at full price... Passed the return date by 5 days.
  19. We use these for small/expensive bits of kit that can't be etched https://www.idmark.com/id-silver-mark/id-silver-mark.html and these style stencils with etching compound for most things https://www.selectamark.co.uk/security-marking/supermark-classic-labels We have them numbered and use them for our inventory asset tags too. Coincidentally, we had a laptop that was stolen a couple of years ago found and returned this week because it had our school and postcode on it.
  20. Yeah, we're trying to avoid that so thought I'd see if there are any other options. Our usual hardware recycler aren't able to do toners, so I might contact a few standard recyclers to see if they can take them before we either pay per box or chuck them.
  21. I spoke with them yesterday and they seemed very good, but also aren't doing compats. So far I've spoken to: Takeback - No compats Zero Waste - May go with these, but they charge per box. Greener-side - Will only have from partnered suppliers Stinky Ink Shop - Ceased service due to coronavirus PWD - Ceased service due to coronavirus Ink & Toner Recycling - Seem to still do it, but has a few bad reviews regarding constant spamming and don't seem very professional? Empties Please - No compats Infotone - No compats
  22. They don't take compatibles, sadly.
  23. Our toner supplier who previously provided toner recycling has had to cease its free service due to the raised costs of shipping and handling in the pandemic. I've contacted a number of companies and a lot of them have also ceased this service, or at least will only do original toners or from their own suppliers. The best I've found charges £16-25 per collection whereas previously this was at no cost. Does anyone know of any companies that will still provide free toner collections (including compatible toners) nationwide or in the Midlands since this? I've been through a lot of previous threads and checked with a number of companies mentioned there but they can't do it.
  24. Anne Hathaway disapprovingly glared at my girlfriend in a restaurant in LA because she accidentally left the price tag on her new jacket... She's never been able to watch a movie with her in since. Apparently she was having a rant at whoever she was eating with about having to pay for her red carpet dresses.
