Connection Issues to Hyper-V Based Server
MrMDStreet replied to MrMDStreet's topic in Network and Classroom Management
In the end. After 9 days of working around people to gain access to their computers and them calling in "outside professional ICT support" (who turned up on the day i had fixed it). Turned windows firewall off on the server running the SQL database. Turned it off on the client machines. Made the users local administrators (at the recommendation of the outside professional ICT support) and then turned it back on for the server then the clients and it all began working again. -
I have had everything locked down to a similar method we used with Ranger a few years ago. No right-click, desktop image standard for teachers, admin and pupils, screensaver lock timeout after 20 minutes, no searching from the start menu, no control panel access, pre-defined pinned start menu icons and desktop icons, pre-mapped drives etc. However admin requested a few changes. The pink wallpaper with 'Admin' written across it was too horrible and they wanted their own wallpapers, their machines aren't parent facing so that was fine. My favourite was the request to re-enable right click in explorer and on the desktop because it meant they could no longer cut, copy & paste. I banged my head on the table for an hour, wrote a little helpful shortcuts poster and re-enabled it anyway. Too much hassle other wise.

Sorry to jump in with nothing useful but this would be really handy. I had searched everywhere a year ago and came up short. I had never written a GP before so had to wing it, we now have a solid set of GP and I have a better understanding of them. I tweaked a few that I found on forums and ran through what our original setup was like in Ranger and worked from there.

Connection Issues to Hyper-V Based Server
MrMDStreet replied to MrMDStreet's topic in Network and Classroom Management
@plock It appears that the other 3 connections are part of a team so I cannot apply them as a separate switch. I have managed to attach one of the others displayed in hyper-v and the Ping has kicked up no losses so far. Now just to test it on the finance machines and other places on site. I will keep you posted. -

No NIC Teaming enabled and there are 3 additional connections in the host. -
Connection Issues to Hyper-V Based Server

Yes it does. -
Ok, So Corero is hosted on a Hyper-V server. when running "ping -t" the server sends a reply for about 20 packets and then times out for anywhere between 1 & 3. No other servers hosted have this issue. I have checked cables and they are all working fine. It just appears to be communication to and from this server. It has been causing me a headache for 3 days now and I am constantly being hounded by our BM to get it resolved. Networking isn't my strong point so any help will be greatly appreciated. As idiot proof as possible would be awesome as well.

@Paul_Fielder , how exactly does one see if the 'run as a local service' has been revoked? One of my main issues with dealing with the software is that it is difficult for me to replicate the issue. So I have to wait for it to occur again before knowing that it is still hapening. This is causing a lot of issues with the Finance team here because there is only so much I can do and only so much Civica are willing to do.

Just standard server updates this morning after the initial problem was logged. There were no specific SQL updates visible. The use of Named Pipes was implemented for a connection to correctly work through our VPN method. This seemed to resolve a previous issue we had with the user who was directly connected to the domain. I have switched the user between the two available methods today to see whether it worked and it made little to no difference. I will try resetting the services which I assume (and am likely wrong) is just stopping and starting on the server?

Hopefully, once again, someone can help. We have the ever so wonderful Corero finance package from Civica. I have had on and off issues with it for the last year and all was running smoothly until today. Today we have had a user booted from the software every 5 or so minutes due to an SQL issue. Every time. The support desk are very slow in responding and I have very little understanding of how it all works and an even smaller understaning of SQL. I managed to get our finance officer to screencap and error that she recieved and hoped it would help to shed some light. I have check network connections, cables, event viewer notifications and the like with very little information to go on I was sorta hoping someone on here might be able to help... Hmm, just tried accessing that section and "Directory not found" with it being linked to our old DC. This is annoying as I didn't set it up so I wouldn't have the first idea where to look.

You are a legend. This is exactly what I was after. It pulls the data for all pupils in the school but that's fine. I did try using the filters to add a greater than 2 rule for L but it returns no results.

Indeed I do. I feel like I'm being a bit dim but my initial SIMs training was 6 years ago and it was basic. It's no getting to a point that to save myself some hassle I almost need to have designed the software to know how to do what I need.

I could if the reports setup was something that was very specific and the options that are needed to be selected not clear. If you have any ideas about the options to select, that would be cool. I have looked but I can't seem to spot them.

Hopefully somebody might be able to point me in the right direction or has a clue what I am babbling about. As a mail merge setup is too difficult for some members of our Admin team to grasp the concept of, I thought that setting up the letter template in a report for SIMs might be more useful for them. So the setup is this. The letter template is ready to roll however the data required is captured from the report found in Reports - Attendance - Selected Pupil Reports - Pupils with Chosen Code Report. Is there any way to modify this report so that it can include pupil address, the selection of a date range and specifically the code 'L' for Late. Then using this to merge the data into the predefined word template? This would save a lot of time and hassle in the fact the 2 months later I would probably need to train the users on mail merging again. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Uniflow Server and Office 365 SMTP Settings

Uniflow Server and Office 365 SMTP Settings
MrMDStreet replied to MrMDStreet's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Cheers, found that guide myself about an hour ago. It was very useful after following the actual Microsoft guide and it still not working. With the power of them bot combined it started working. It almost seemed too simple when I thought about it but now that it's working I just have to remember to change the password on the SMTP Relay when the password is changed on Office 365. This is because with all of the instruction that guide gave. I still needed to assign the outgoing mail address and password. Just following that guide wasn't enough so Combine two and the relay began to work. Thanks again for the help. Just to type up my process now for future use. -
Uniflow Server and Office 365 SMTP Settings
MrMDStreet replied to MrMDStreet's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
The instructions are a bit heavy but I am following them. Very useful information there. Ours are Canon too. I might assume that our suppliers won't share this with use because they might want to charge us for a Uniflow Server software upgrade so that it "works". -
Without any prior warning a discussion has been held by the BM and Condor about setting up automatic reporting through the SMTP mailing method of Uniflow server. However I can't seem to get the settings to working and keep receiving the same error. I have attached a screenshot so that any individuals with better knowledge than me can help the cause. The authentication type drop down contains these options: No Authentication SMTP after POP3 (APOP) SMTP Authentication auto.select SMTP Authentication NTLM SMTP Authentication CRAM-MD5 SMTP Authentication LOGIN SMTP Authentication PLAIN Any help will be greatly appreciated. I know I have filled everything out correctly but I might not be right in my own knowing.

Hopefully somebody will be able to help with this. We recently replaced all of our Epson projectors the awkward yet useful Smart E70. Before the work was even carried out the Business Manager had agreed to donate some of our old projectors to a Secondary School so that they could use them. Does anyone have any insights into the rules and regulations on doing this? Or some very good 'For' and 'Against' arguments? I was told in passing that technically we can't legally do it but I can't remember the specific reasoning behind it. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi all, I have been tasked with creating a loan form for classroom based digital cameras. I have an outline but I feel like I am missing something. Anyone got any pointers or little bits that they could help me with so that I can get this setup and in place with it being as nearly airtight as possible? Any help will be greatly appreciated however. Thanks MS p.s. in the near future I will be also doing one for loaned laptops. Some help may be needed with that too. Digital Camera Loan Form.pdf
