We ordered some Lenovo laptops from ICT-Direct, and while there were some glitches with the supply chain of parts (not their fault, upstream supply issues), and then with some incompatibility of parts, they've always been very helpful and willing to understand the situation and effect a quick resolution. This often says far more about a company than a transaction where everything's perfect, particularly because similar situations in the past with other suppliers have ended up going around in circles for ages. Top marks to @ICTDirect_Dave for putting up with my sometimes daily phone calls about things. Would order again, definitely.

We tried several ports around the room, checked the patching the other end was correct, etc. The AP registers with the controller fine. @SYNACK - I believe we did check that, but can't say 100% as I didn't personally do it. I will check that myself tomorrow, as well as swapping laptop types and/or WLAN cards to help eliminate a client issue.

Here's an odd one for you. To set the scene, we've got a Ruckus wireless system w/a ZoneDirector 3000 in place. We have a situation in that the domain-joined laptops in one particular room are not logging in properly (>15 min login times, not mapping drives, etc.). We've tried all sorts of things to get it to work, but the consistent oddity is that they insist on roaming between APs, as opposed to sticking with the one right next to them in the room! They'll roam out and back all within around 10 seconds, and sometimes settle on one several rooms away! We've replaced the AP itself with no effect. Any ideas? I know it's a bit of an open question, feel free to quiz me on what we've tried/aspects of the setup.

Anything in Event Viewer? (the 'Application' log, and check the Group Policy operational log too)

Have you checked the power management settings? If the wireless card is set to 'maximum power savings' in the power profile, then all sorts of odd things can happen. Set it to 'maximum performance' and see if things improve.

What version of OS X do you need to run the Configurator? I'd find the oldest Macbook/Mac Mini revision that'll run that OS X version and have a look on eBay. Then of course, there's the Hackintosh/OSx86 route, but...

Bring on the snow! I much prefer cold to hot - you can do something about being cold, and I seem to have antifreeze in the blood anyway, so it doesn't bother me that much!

Is there a limit on the number of time periods the HAP booking system supports? Alternatively, I'm probably being a numpty... If I try to add more than 9 time periods, I get the CSS glitch in the screenshot below, where the last period doesn't display. Here's a copy of the section of my hapconfig.xml:

If you just want to prevent students losing their files, why not redirect the desktop to their home folder (%userhome%\Desktop) - that way everything ends up in there.

Chrome, and people can run IE (9) if they really want to, but most people use Chrome either because it's better, or because it's in easy reach and they don't care! Either way, it's good news for us!

No, I deleted the volume, kept it deleted (so there was just the small volume online) while I reinstalled Windows. Then I recreated the large drive, which would be completely blank. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

I'm currently setting up a new server - I want one RAID volume to contain the OS (Server 2012) and another volume for data (backups). The data volume is just over 4 TB. I created both volumes in the pre-boot RAID config menu (it's an HP ProLiant DL580 G5 server with the HP P400 card) and installed Windows, but the installer in its infinite wisdom shoved the 350 MB system reserved partition onto the data volume, which meant I couldn't convert it to GPT. So, I then deleted the 4 TB volume and reinstalled with just the small disk online. Everything OK, so I reboot and recreate the large volume. Now, the sodding thing refuses to boot from the RAID controller, as if there's no OS installed at all! Surely creating another logical volume shouldn't affect the first? Am I being an idiot? Either way, how do I achieve what I'm after? Thanks!

Seriously? I think that goes to show just how much of a ridiculous racket this has become. If any other business decided to switch supplier, you wouldn't expect said supplier to write and complain, you'd expect them to find out why you switched and what they're not doing well enough.

This is basically my feeling on the subject as well. We use a PowerShell script to install and update SIMS. Shove a PC in the security group and it'll automatically install SIMS on next boot. When an update comes around, we change the version number in the script (to invalidate all existing installs) and the script blows away the existing SIMS install and runs the setups again. Schedule a reboot overnight after an upgrade and nobody will even know it's happened.

Anyone know what URLs and ports the Spotify Web Player uses? I'm trying to get it to work behind the LGfL's filtering and firewall system (all I currently get is 'we are unable to stream tracks to you at this time' or a message to that effect when I try to play anything). I thought I'd ask before I bust out the packet-capture software.

@russdev - sorry for not getting back to you, been busy with 101 different things. Haven't had a chance to properly test it, but I believe that my issue was caused by a corrupt permissions/settings file on the server. I'll report back when I know everything is working as expected.

Which is not that different from the previous iPhone in terms of spec, but must have latest shiny thing! (that and Apple will probably restrict certain things from running on the previous-generation model at some point. You can jailbreak, of course, but IMO if you want a phone you can do whatever you want with, you're better off with Android.)
