It behaves sensibly and picks a different printer? It throws an error message along the lines of 'no printers available'? Oh, no, now I remember... "Runtime Error 217." Wat.

We found SCCM too bloated and cumbersome for our needs and went with MDT for imaging, GPO and PS scripts for software deployment. Impero is great for classroom managment (and remote support too!) If you're based around London you're welcome to come and have a look at our network, we binned CC3 over the summer and couldn't be happier at the result. CC3/4 will hold you back.

You mean a request to actually change FMS and make it better? Aren't they automatically routed to /dev/null?

My plan was always to add the module directly into HAP - hopefully in such a fashion that upgrades won't break it irreparably.

Hi Nick, Is there a quick guide to how to extend HAP? More specifically I'm looking to write a module that has a tile as an entry point, displays a page allowing for some data entry and file uploads and then composes a document based on these each week. It's to streamline the composition of our staff briefing document. I have developed desktop apps in C# before, and written web applications in Python and PHP (eww...), but have little experience with ASPX - I'm sure I'll be able to figure things out, but could do with a kick-start on developing for HAP specifically. Thanks in advance!

And I thought I would be busy! Got some cabling being done and some PCs to put in once they're done, server room A/C is being replaced (long overdue, that one...) and potentially rotating a classroom (i.e. moving projector and board).

There is quite a bit I could say on this, but @bossman has pretty much said it all. We have fixed PCs in all classrooms and a staff IT room, so the attitude to staff laptops here (from IT and SLT) is pretty much 'hell no'.

What happens if you save there?

I received a call from Softcat today, informing me that we'd now have to pay a £7.50 delivery charge to get the tablet we've been waiting for since July! Absolute codswallop - why should we have to pay extra to a middleman who has been brought in because Microsoft dropped the ball. I asked to speak to someone at MS, who told me that the order could be passed back to them and I wouldn't have to pay the charge (the person from Softcat who was also on the call didn't sound happy about this!). They did say that it might take a couple of days longer, but that it was 2 weeks either way, so I went for it. I'm curious if anyone else has been asked to pay these charges, because in my opinion it's just plain wrong.

Would love to do this at work, but there'd be too many issues with incompatibility with the rest of our infrastructure. I could use a VM, but it's another layer of complexity. I do however have a spare RPi on my desk that I could probably put to use...

NB - Don't actually do this! I'd get something like an HP LaserJet 4345. If you already use 4250s or 4350s, I believe there's a one-size-fits-all toner for them all too.

EDIT: Disregard this, I am a donkey. Helps if you restart the IIS service properly after making permission changes... Just installed this on IIS8, but get an error "The directory specified, C:\inetpub\wwwroot\printmaster\session\, is not writable" when I try to load the upgrade.php script. The directory is writable - I even tried assigning 'Everyone' Full Control, but still got the error. Any ideas, or is it just not going to work on IIS?

That doesn't surprise me, given how many generations there have been between then and now. I may well have to give this one a go! Of course, getting a 3DS is a prerequisite, but I'm sure they'll be doing bundles with the game+console. Something to put on the 'look for in the January sales' list I think!

The last time I was really into Pokemon there were only 251, and the third Pokemon anime movie had just been released. Am I hopelessly behind or could I play X/Y without intermediate knowledge? I have seen quite a few of the later movies, if that helps...

Nope, you can definitely connect bog-standard machines to a CC3 domain, we did it. Obviously things that rely on the RM services won't work, but if it's just for a display I doubt it matters.

Personally I'd look for a decent second-hand HP ProCurve. You can find fully managed 10/100 ones for good rates these days, and they all have a lifetime warranty too.
